![]() General Information: Name: Shelob Gender: Female. Race: Spider of the Descent of Ungoliant Homeland: Ered Gorgoroth in ancient Beleriand Age: Shelob is not intelligent enough to comprehend age, but she is was born in the First Age in Bereliand, and lived there long before the War of Wrath, making her at least seven-thousand years old In the Service of: Shelob never has nor will she ever serve anyone. Shelob is Shelob's own. Weaponry Weapons: Shelob, being a spider, has her webs, which do little but to hold her prey and unsuspecting prey. Like most spiders, she has pinchers on her face, but unlike most, being the last daughter of Ungoliant to be alive, she has a gaping mouth, and thus injests a victim whole, should she please. However, she can also drain a victim using her pinchers. As a kind of secret weapon and her weapon of choice, Shelob has a stinger at her end, near her spinnerets. This stinger has a potent poison, knocking a person out within seconds of being stabbed, but it does not kill them, most of the time: it knocks them out, for quite some time, so that she may return them to her lair and keep them until she is hungry enough to feed on them. Armor: Shelob's back is very hard, like rock, having been conditioned for thousands of years, as well as her having been born the daughter of Ungoliant, a Maia so powerful and corrupted into a spider form that, after destroying and taking the power of the Two Trees, Morgoth and the Valar themselves feared Ungoliant. However, she has two main weaknesses: Her soft underbelly, which she does best to hide, and her head, which has become so use to taking damage that she last a little less than three eyes, one main one and two smaller ones; the rest look like burn wounds. Description Physical Description: Shelob is a colossal spider, as any Child of Ungoliant would be. About twelve feet long and six feet high, few in Middle-earth would willingly fight her, not unless they had experience with other beasts of her size. Her outer layer is a black-ash gray color, varying in light and in places. She has incredibly small hairs all over her, however, making her seem soft for the few who manage to get close enough to touch her and live to tell about it. Despite this, it is not a fur, and one can clearly see her flesh. No hair exists on her underbelly, which is bear and completely black, minus a scar or two. She keeps this hidden, save for when she produces her stinger from her anus, next to her spinnerets. Her face, perhaps the most hideous part of the behemoth, is also fleshy, though much less so, bearing her eyes, or where they use to be. She once had a cluster of eyes, with several large ones, but it has been some time since she has had all of them, and she does not have the pleasure of growing new ones. One large black beady eye remains, with two smaller ones around her, which are mainly useless. Despite this, she can see quite well, her vision as good as it has always been, as she is use to only having one large and useful eye. Her legs appear long and powerrful, and depending on the foe, she can seem close to the ground or can raise herself high off of the ground, her legs durable and unbreakable by any weapon known to mortals. Avatar: Shelob from the Movies. She's all 3-D and stuff Personality: Shelob is an animal, first and foremost. Her basic instincts drive her, but she is not unintelligent entirely. She feeds, but she is a well-trained hunter from thousands of years of hunting. She reproduces, though she has not in at least a millennia. She keeps her territory, though she knows not to go too far out. A number of things make her a sort of paradox, but she can be overcome by both wit and blade. She fears light, being sensitive from living in the dark for so long. Never does she venture from her home unless food is too scarce to maintain her massive frame. Shelob knows the fear she induces to those around her, normally Orcs, and she can visibly tell the difference between Men, Orcs, Elves, and Dwarves, and is always willing to try something new, though she has become accustomed to getting whatever she can to get by. But if she can get away with something new, she'll try it without a second thought. When faced with other spiders, even her own offspring (Though she is the last direct Child of Ungoliant, there are no living Children of Shelob left). This cannibalism she is not above has always been that way, and it does not come from any necessity, save perhaps the necessity to keep other potential hunters at bay by destroying them altogether. Despite this, many descendants of Shelob exist, and most can be seen in the Misty Mountains, beyond the Forodwaith, and in Mirkwood. History: Long ago, after Morgoth had allowed the Dark Spider Queen Ungoliant to feed upon the Two Trees, she began to produce offspring, large and powerful. But just as she produced them, she also devoured them without remorse, and few escaped. One of the few that did, a smaller daughter who was of no consequence to the Spider-Queen, made her way to the Mountains of Terror, called Ered Gorgoroth, which none passed and told the tale save brave Beren, who spoke not of his journey. This spider, large and powerful as she was, obeyed none, not even her cruel mother's master Morgoth, who left her to her own. As the War of Wrath began, Shelob moved to the South, following the trail of her mother. It was not out of lust for power or her mother's flesh that she followed, she simply wished to get out of the way of battle. Along the way she reproduced with other children of Ungoliant, often devouring them after copulation, and waiting until her children were born to where she devoured as many of them as she could, for both feeding and power. But unlike her mother, it was hunger alone that drove her, not lust for destruction and cruelty. Eventually, long after the War of Wrath concluded and Morgoth was chained Beyond Time, Shelob found herself in a land of, in the future, some dark design, a simple desert then. The tunnels she made into a home were nice, cold, damp, perfect for a Daughter of Ungoliant. Not long after she settled, however, a Dark Force entered into the desert, turning it and the surrounding lands black with his dark power. He was Sauron, a Maia who had served her mother's Lord. His Orcs and other servants began to try to talk to her, to see if there was any way she could he used for their Master's War, but they found they could not. Thus, Sauron, after scouting ways to enter into Mordor, discovered that the Pass she protected was the only way into Mordor not protected by a fortification, so what better way to protect it than to have a nondiscriminating beast of hunger? Sauron left Shelob to her own, and thus, Shelob fed upon Orc, Man, and Elf alike, anyone who would venture into her dark lair. Thousands of years later, she is still in her lair, and despite being scarred, she is still hungry, and ready to kill and feed upon anyone who enters her home. She is, as of 3018, the last living Child of Ungoliant, Queen of the Spiders, worshipped in the South. |
