Characters on WotR: None, as of yet.
How Did You Find Us?: I found this site through the Hand of the true Dark Lord: Morgoth! He shall return from the Void, mark my words!

General Information:

Name: Sauron

Title: Dark Lord

Aliases: The Abhorred, Nameless Enemy, the Necromancer, the Deceiver, the Dark Lord, Gorthaur the Cruel, the Deceiver, Annatar, the Lord of Gifts, Base Master of Treachery, the Dark Power, Lord of the Earth, King of Men, Lord of the Dark, Lord of Barad-dûr, the Red Eye, the Ring-maker, Thauron, the Power of the Black Land, the Black Master, the Black One, the Eye of Barad-dur, the Lidless Eye, the Evil Eye, the Unnamed, the Nameless, the Nameless One, the Nameless Eye, the Lord of the Rings, the Lord of the Ring, the Black Hand, and the Sorcerer.

Gender: Male

Race: The Dark Lord of Middle-earth, Maia of Aulë.

Homeland: Originally: Valinor, Secondary: Tol Sirion (changed to Tol-in-Gaurhoth, the Isle of Werewolves when corrupted), Thirdly: Mordor, Fourthly: Dol Guldur, Currently: Mordor.

Age: Unknown. Born before the creation of Arda.

In the Service of: Previously: Melkor/Morgoth. Currently: Himself. The Dark Lord Sauron serves no one, but his own needs and will.

Weaponry

*Weapons: The Mace of Sauron. Made of an adamant/mithril alloy and imbued with sorcery. The Mace has been in service of Sauron since the First Age and has never worn down due to it's perfect forging. Whenever sighted, one can feel certain doom coming upon them. It's a symmetrical design with many short spikes about the head and a sharp and cold looking design. 2' in length and 3-5" in width.

*Armor: Again, Sauron's armor is an alloy of melted mithril and adamant. The armor is matching the design and qualities of his weapon and rises around his shoulders into large spikes. The helm of Sauron is large, horse-like, and dreadful to behold. The design of his armor is a series of symmetrical vertical strips of metal welded together to shape around him tightly and secure around his bodily form. Spikes found on boots, elbows, shoulders, and very tall spikes upon helm. Also imbued with sorcery elements.

Steed: None. No mount could ever support the weight of the Dark Lord.

Powers: After the Battle of Morannon, Sauron was left near-crippled without the One Ruling Ring. Sauron is currently rehabilitating his spirit in the Dark Tower and is unable to use any power other than that of control of minions and in range of the eastern lands, including Haradwaith, Ithilien, Rhovanion, and Rhûn, as well as through a Palantir. When using the Palantir, Sauron is able to spy and watch anywhere in Middle-earth. He has spent plenty of time honing his ability to telepathically communicate through it and have an effect upon others who take part in Palantir communication.

When using the Palantir, the embodiment of him is a gargantuan, bright eye shape atop the Dark Tower, known as the Eye of Sauron. Another such personification of his form. His skill in deceiving others had become so powerful that using a Palantir and prolonged exposure and use could be fatal and a key to the corruption of others and inspiring fear.

Obviously, Sauron is extremely powerful in magics and is clever and guileful which is another skill of his. His ability to speak and use his own style of diplomacy is very disturbing and spelled imminent defeat for many of the peoples of Middle-earth, during his life.

Once he is restored over time, Sauron will be able to be nearly as good as he was when using the One Ring. Sauron will be limited to his Tower until rehabilitated. Until he possesses the Ring, he will be unable to leave Mordor's final borders. For, without the blight of Mordor, his spirit will not be sustained.

With the Ring, he will be able to be fully operational physically and mentally. Without it, he'll only be able to fight one-on-one with any who enter the land. His armor/weapon will be unable to provide full usefulness without the Ring. Sauron is also unable to change his image to anything, ever, since the Battle of Morannon.

Sauron has aquired, since his early days in the First Age, the ability to inspire fear wherever he goes. Allies or enemies, both feel alike in his presence. His voice and overall armor appearance bring terror even to the bravest and stoutest folk, let alone the mere memory of what he has accomplished.

The Dark Lord also employs a strong mind. Being able to outsmart many and convince others of nearly anything. Sauron is a capable negotiator, diplomatic figure, and clever speaker. Though these powers do little to the stout minded of Middle-earth. He is also one of the best military commanders ever to live in Middle-earth. He has brought much terror and death to those who would not give in to his will. Terrorizing residents of Middle-earth throughout the Ages, Sauron possesses the ability to bring victory to his forces in nearly any battle. In the instance of his presence in battle, there is little hope to be had from his in-person commanding style.

-The Eye of Sauron upon Barad-dûr-
Posted Image

Physical Description: None know of Sauron's true appearance, except the Valar and Eru. As for his height, Sauron is 7'+, weighing over 800 lbs. with armor. There is no way to see his true appearance, but only seen as a shadow within Barad-dûr. There is little more to describe other than the presence of his look chilling to any who look upon it.

Sauron's build is extremely large and muscular, from the shape of him. His armor covers him entirely, but the power than comes from him causes one to assume he's quite a potent fighter as well as thinker.

The most memorable image of Sauron is that of his Annatar image in the armor he always wore, but his visage was that of a fair elf. Long, blond haired and fair featured. All who looked upon that image were filled with awe at his beauty, except a few who could see through the disguise.

Sauron's true shape was guessed by most, that he once resembled the shape of Annatar, but eventually became a twisted version of it, ever mutating and corrupting.

Avatar: Sauron from the films: Sala Baker.

Personality: Sauron feels hatred and malice towards everything else. He cares only for himself and his own will. His strength is both in body and mind. He is physically advanced beyond all others of Middle-earth. His powers, mentally, are awesome and able to bring doubt and woe to even a Maia. Saruman the White has joined due to Sauron's amplification of mental feelings of power-hunger and fear, on Saruman's part.

Sauron's only weakness is when he is without the One Ruling Ring, due to the amount of power and energy he emptied into it in order to amplify it through it. Without the Ring, he is extremely weak and crippled. It takes a long time to regenerate his basic survival power and the ability to move about his own land in Mordor.

As well as being capable physically, beyond all others, his strategic and military skill surpasses all, but very few. The battles he had led and devised over his lifespan were too great for any to dismiss from thought. He was able to bring defeat to the most fortified of strongholds.

A quality of his is his generally deceptive personality, in any situation. His skill in lying, leaking lies, using reverse-psychology is, without a doubt, the most threatening part about his overall thought pattern. He can brain wash, deceive, and twist the mind to the verge of death. Because of his skill in deception and treachery, it's saved his existence many times and would continue to be a major threat to the Free Peoples.

Sauron is an efficient leader due to his skill in ruling by fear. Fear has proved to be his greatest tool in his war on Middle-earth. Every creature willing to fight to the death for fear of what he will have in store if surviving defeat. Failing to provide for Sauron's will is the greatest fear of all his servants, let alone dying to the hand of the enemy.

After the loss of his Lord, Morgoth, Sauron was always and ever loyal. He believes that the original Dark Lord will return and is one of Sauron's main incentives to dominate Middle-earth and make it ready for his master. A high respect and mutual trust for one another always existed, even with their general loath and malice to all.

Sauron was drawn to the might of Melkor. Being a Power who desired dominion over the entire world. Sauron also craved order and wanted to arrange things according to his will. Sauron wished to be a creator and play God, more or less. Melkor seemed to be the best way to achieve his own desires.

History: Sauron came into existence before the creation of the world. He was not evil in the beginning. At first he was a Maia of Aule, the Vala whose domain was the substances of which the earth was made. Aule was a smith and a master of crafts and works of skill, and Sauron learned much from him about making, forging, and creating.

But Sauron was drawn to the strength and might of Melkor - a Power who desired dominion over the entire world. Sauron craved order and wanted to arrange things according to his will, and he believed that following Melkor was the best way to achieve this end. Melkor became known as Morgoth - the Dark Enemy - and Sauron became his most powerful minion and performed many evil deeds in his service.

He faithfully served Melkor for all time. However, while Melkor wanted to either control or destroy Arda itself, Sauron's desire was to dominate the minds and wills of its creatures. Because of this, Sauron was more practical than Melkor from the first.
Sauron served as Morgoth's chief lieutenant, when the Noldor came from the Blessed Realm, surpassing all others in rank. At that time, Sauron was master of illusions and shapeshifting and his servants were primarily Werewolves. Among them Draugluin, Sire of Werewolves, and Thuringwethil, his vampire herald.

While Morgoth left to begin corruption of the newly awakened Men, Sauron waged and commanded the war on the Elves. He conquered the Elvish isle of Tol Sirion, and it became known as Tol-in-Gaurhoth, the Isle of Werewolves.

Ten years later, Finrod Felagund, the king of Nargothrond and former lord of Tol Sirion, returned to Tol-in-Guarhoth with Beren. He fought Sauron and was defeated (in part because of the curse of Fëanor). He then died fighting a wolf in Sauron's dungeons to save Beren. Lúthien and Huan the Wolfhound defeated Sauron and rescued Beren from the dungeons.

When the Valar finally began their move against Morgoth, the resulting War of Wrath, the Dark Lord was defeated and cast into the Outer Void beyond the world. But Sauron fled from the Great Battle and escaped.

Shocked by the fall of his master, Sauron repented (truly at first, if only out of fear). He assumed his most fair form and approached Eönwë, emissary of the Valar, who however could not pardon a Maia like himself. Through Eönwë, Manwë as Lord of the Valar commanded Sauron to come before him for judgment, but he had left room for repentance and ultimate rehabilitation. Thus Sauron now had a chance of rejoining the forces of good, but he would obviously risk being sentenced to long servitude as proof of his good will. Since he wielded great power under Morgoth, Sauron was unwilling to face this humiliation, and so hid in Middle-earth.

In the Second Age, after about 1,000 years, Sauron reappeared. He began slowly, with fair motives: the rehabilitation of Middle-earth. Being neglected by the gods, he becomes a reincarnation of Evil, and a thing lusting for complete domination.

Sauron was still able to hide his identity and his true plans. After assuming a beautiful appearance and calling himself Annatar, "Lord of Gifts," Sauron befriended the Elven-smiths of Eregion, and counseled them in arts and magic. Some of the Elves distrusted him, especially the Lady Galadriel in Lórien and Gil-galad, the High King of the Noldor, but the Elves in Eregion did not heed their warnings.

With Sauron's assistance, the Elven-smiths forged the Rings of Power, which brought great power to their bearers. Subsequently, Sauron secretly forged the One Ring in the volcanic Mount Doom (Orodruin) in Mordor. This One Ring to rule them all, had the power to dominate the other Rings and enslave their wearers to Sauron's will. The Rings of Power were extremely potent, however, and to accomplish his goal of creating an instrument that could dominate even them, Sauron was forced to place the greater part of his native power into it. Anyone of a strong will who possessed the One Ring had available to him much of Sauron's own power to dominate. Should the One Ring ever be destroyed, Sauron would be fatally crippled and forever unable to take shape again.

When Sauron put on the One Ring and tried to dominate the Elves, they were aware of his intent and removed their Rings. Sauron responded with military force, initiating the War of the Elves and Sauron and conquering much of the land west of Anduin.

This began the Dark Years. He overran Eregion, killed Celebrimbor, leader of the Elven-smiths, and seized the Seven and the Nine Rings of Power that had been previously forged with his assistance. However, Celebrimbor had forged the Three Rings himself without Sauron's help, and these were saved and remained in the hands of the Elves. Celebrimbor entrusted the Three to Galadriel and Gil-galad, who received two Rings and gave one of them to Círdan afterward.

With the Elves near incapacitated, Sauron besieged Imladris, battled with Moria and Lórien, and pushed further into Gil-galad's realm. The Elves fought back and with the aid of a powerful army from Númenor under their king Tar-Minastir, destroyed Sauron's army and drove it back to Mordor. The Númenóreans held the most powerful kingdom of Men at this time; they were descended from the Three Houses of the Edain who helped the Elves in their war against Morgoth, and they lived on the island of Númenor in the seas between Middle-earth and Valinor.

From this time on, Sauron became known as the Dark Lord of Mordor. He erected Barad-dûr, the Dark Tower, and built the Black Gate of Mordor to prevent any possible invasion. He distributed his 16 Rings to lords of Men and Dwarves, giving them nine and seven respectively.
Dwarves proved too resilient to bend to his will (instead being overwhelmed with greed), but the Men were enslaved to Sauron as the Nazgûl, his most feared servants. Sauron regained control over all of the creatures that had served Morgoth in the First Age (such as Orcs and Trolls). Sauron also gained power over most of the Men in the East and the South, becoming their god-king. After the Nazgûl were under his control, Sauron took back the Nine Rings, now being mentally linked, he felt the Rings were of no use nor of ownership of the Nazgûl.

The second Dark Lord was now at the height of his power, since becoming almost supreme in Middle-earth… He rules a growing empire from the great Dark Tower of Barad-dûr in Mordor, near to the Mountain of Fire, wielding the One Ring. Towards the end of the Second Age, Sauron assumed the titles of Lord of the Earth and King of Men.

Ar-Pharazôn, the last and most powerful of the Númenórean kings, came to Middle-earth with massive armies, and Sauron's forces deserted him rather than fight! Realising he could not defeat the Númenóreans with military strength, Sauron allowed himself to be taken as a prisoner to Númenor.

Ar-Pharazôn did not know about the Rings of Power and did not seize the One Ring, which Sauron retained. With its power, Sauron quickly grew from captive to adviser of the king. He established himself as High Priest of Melkor, "Lord of the Dark," and a great temple was built where human sacrifices were carried out. A decade later he convinced Ar-Pharazôn to attack Valinor itself, persuading him that whoever possessed the Undying Lands would live forever. A few years later, the greatest armament Middle-earth had ever seen landed on the shores of Valinor.

At this point Eru, Himself, directly intervened: Númenor was drowned under the sea, and the great navy of Númenor was destroyed. Sauron's body was destroyed, but his spirit returned to Mordor and took up the One Ring. In relatively short order Sauron assumed a new physical form and began to rebuild his forces. He was unable ever again to take on the fair shapes under which he had deceived the Elves and seduced the Númenóreans, and from then on he could only rule through fear and force.

The few faithful Númenóreans were saved from the flood, and they founded the kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor among the Númenórean colonists and the natives of north-western Middle-earth.

Elendil and his sons forged the Last Alliance of Elves and Men with Gil-galad, to fight Sauron. The Alliance won a great victory on the plain of Dagorlad and invaded Mordor, laying siege to Barad-dûr for seven years. During the siege, Elendil's younger son Anárion was killed by a stone cast from the tower. Finally, Sauron was forced to emerge from his tower and fight, himself.

In the conflict, he was overthrown, slain by Gil-galad and Elendil, who themselves were slain in the act. Elendil's sword, Narsil, broke beneath him when he fell. Taking up the hilt-shard of Narsil, Elendil's surviving son, Isildur, cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand, defeating the Dark Lord. Sauron was for that time vanquished, and he forsook his body, and his spirit fled far away and hid in waste places.
The traumatic loss of the Ring greatly weakened Sauron. He did not swiftly rebuild, as he had done following the Downfall of Númenor. Sauron spent the first centuries of the Third Age in a dormant state.

Finally he emerged yet again, at first in a stronghold called Dol Guldur in southern
Mirkwood. In Mirkwood he was known as the Necromancer, but the Elves did not recognize him at first. Gandalf the Wizard stole into Dol Guldur and discovered the truth; eventually the White Council of Wizards and Elves combined to put forth their might, and Sauron was forced out of Mirkwood.

Sauron's power recovered to the point that he was able to extend his will over Middle-earth. The Eye of Sauron, as his attention and force of will was perceived, became a symbol of oppression and fear. Following his flight from Dol Guldur, Sauron returned to Mordor, publicly declared himself, and raised Barad-dûr anew. In preparation for a final war against Men and Elves, he bred immense armies of Orcs and other beasts of darkness, augmenting them with Men from the East and South who (through their leaders) were in his service.

Additional Information
Introduction: The Dark Lord's high chamber within the Dark Tower of Barad-dûr was cold as a stay in a lake during a winter night. In the far end of the tall hall from the stairway door was a gigantic, dark, icy looking throne. In it there was a dark figure standing tall but the features were non-existent. It was as though it was there and not there. A ghostly shape.

Before the throne there sat a mobile stand made of black marble. Upon it sat, perfectly, a Palantiri. The fires of Mordor glared through it and lit the room somewhat. Through the carved windows of Barad-dûr there poured in a thick orange and red light from the west. The source of the licking light was Orodruin, Mount Doom: the Mountain of Fire.

At the gate-door of the room there came a gentle knock, like that of a pin dropping.
Goth-izub... Gaakh skaat-izig-ishi? came a dark and hoarse voice.
[My lord... May I come in?][
Akh
was the answer...
][Yes][

The heavy doors opened slowly with a clang as they struck against the walls behind them. The figure who entered wore a tall helm draped in black rags and the only flesh seen on the head was about the mouth, which was scarred and torn from speaking evil. It was the Mouth of Sauron, Lieutenant of Barad-dûr.

-End of Introduction-
