Hey guys, I wanted to start this thread so we can discuss which concept we wanted to start working on. The current concepts we have are:

  • Convoy
  • Arkanoid/Breakout
  • Speed Side Scroller

Personally I think that the Arkanoid/breakout or Convoy concepts would be the best ones to start with. I like the arkanoid idea because it's a fairly simple concept that opens itself up to be more complex should we choose to make it, and Convoy would be cool because it has Fallout behind it which could spread some interest around and attract some more members. I'm down to work on either. What do you guys think?

I'm okay with either arkanoid or convoy to begin with, what convoy has adds in overhead (having to learn the rules and implement them) it should make up for in relatively straightforward art production. Admittedly I don't know the first thing about it, so maybe you guys already have that covered. My one worry about that would be the ability to create a working AI to play against might be a little rough, I don't have any experience in that sort of thing. Getting a working two player version and a basic arkanoid should be similarly simple to create, though.

Honestly, I think we should just frame this out now and be done with it. We do arkanoid, it's a known quantity, and be finished with it in a timely fashion. We can start on it June 1st, done with everything from effects to menus to art by 2nd week of July. That gives us 3 weeks to brainstorm any sort of theme quirks, start making assignments, and choose a platform, and 6 weeks to finish. I can make this from scratch in an afternoon, certainly we can create something quite respectable in 2 months, and more importantly it will be something complete. We should be less interested in public interest or trying to recruit members; at the level we're at 5 people is more than enough. Creating things well is the best way to do those things, and to do that we just have to power through it. If that means we start doing the onegameamonth entries, or ludum dares etc we can do that as it comes. Im more just concerned with how little activity we have outside of meetings. Sound good?

I'm good with that. I'd rather get a project completed before moving onto anything else. If no one else responds with to this we'll go with arkanoid, and we can discuss the plans on sunday.

Yes, Arkanoid is a great jumping board, it can be made on pretty much every engine ever and has room for additions. If we're going for any complete project, this may well be it.
