States of the Church
|
Shortform name: Pontifical States (States of the Church) Real life culture influence: Italy, Rome (historically) Real life culture of former colonizer: N/A Population: 29,750,000 GDP (PPP) per capita: $25,000 GDP (nominal) per capita:$19,000 Military manpower (active/reserve): 297,000 active (1%), 595,000 reserve (2%) Language(s): Latin (Official), Italian Additional info: ![]() The Pontifical States refers to the territories in south-central Qiongzhou under the sovereign direct rule of the Pope and the Catholic Church (gonna figure out a unique IC name for Christianity perhaps). It is the seat of the Holy See for Tiandi Catholics. The Pontifical States is composed of 7 regions (known officially as Legations) which are essentially fiefdoms owned by historically powerful families, and are represented by Legates to the Church. It is an absolute elective monarchy. It's military is well funded and is supplemented by a rather large reserve (conscription is in place), and religious military orders. Historically, it would have emerged as a successor to some collapsed notRoman Empire of sorts. Need to work out history with regards to "asiatic" traders. It likely resisted "easternization" for a while before becoming an oil whore to some superpower. Much of the northern and eastern portions of the country are highly mountainous, with coastal areas being rather hilly, with cliffs in the northeast and arable land in the south. The climate is predominately Mediterranean and Alpine. The Pontifical States is a major exporter of petroleum, with massive reserves located off the southern panhandle. As discussed, this helps contribute to the relatively high GDP (for Tiandi Europeans). NOTE: I lowered the population from 41 mil (as was discussed) to 29 mil. I am not too willing to lower the GDPPC further, but I am perfectly happy to export petroleum, olives, and wine to the Asian powerhouses.
