DJ Calus performs some serious musical surgery, giving many of your favorite Toonami songs a much-needed facelift. What did you think of his efforts? If you haven't downloaded the album yet, then do so and report back here. Pronto, understand?

Wooooo, yeah! This article rocks and this is the greatest album EVER!

You know that album you love? It's better than that! ...Unless it's this album.

^Some input from some guy who totally didn't work on that album (maybe)

I'll start on em' tomorrow probably. Between college, my girl, Team Fortress 2, and my Wii, I haven't had time for much else.

Also, my Youtube account was deleted just to today, so it's probably a good thing I waited to upload any vids. Don't worry though, they'll be up soon. ^^

Hey Nick, as a Toonami fan from back in the day, I really enjoy your articles.
I'll definitley be stopping by on a regular basis.

And hey DJ Calus, I loved your Rare, Restored, and Recut CD.
Everything down to the character quotes you chose flowed really well.
I've got this one burned into my collection ;).

Also, major props to your girlfriend for the artwork, that could definitley pass for retail, and it fits the mood of the album really well.

I'm also really looking forward to the videos you're doing, any chance they'll be available for download?

Anyway, can't wait for those Vids man.

P.S. Any chance there'll be a Rare, Restored, and Recut Vol. 2?

**EDIT:**

P.S.S. I also added the CD to Discogs: http://www.discogs.com/release/1254745
It hasn't been cleared yet, but I think you can view it from that link.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, especially you Jay. I REALLY like that you took the time out to add the album and info on Discogs. And of course my girlfriend liked the compliments as well about her album artwork.

As for a sequel, keep your eyes peeled for Toonami: Rx3 2: Electric Boogaloo.

...In other words, a sequel isn't likely.

HOWEVER...

I do plan on doing one or two more tracks as exclusives for this site/forum. The ONLY WAY, and I mean the ONLY way I would do another album like this is if I were to get more clean Toonami track samples. I really would love to make another one, but it just doesn't seem too likely I'll get more tracks. I would ask Joe Boyd Vigil himself, but I'm really scared to mainly because I don't to get like, sued and stuff. I know it's not too likely, but it's possible. Another thing is that he might think I butchered his tracks (although you all probably can't hear them, there are a few audio errors in the whole thing). However, if someone were to try and get them for me and succeed... *hinthint* ...I would do it no problem.

As for the one or two tracks I'll do for the site, the one I KNOW I'll do is BHM #17; the music used for the single TOM2 YYH intro and the TOM3 History Of Trunks intro.

A winrar is you!

Although I had to sort through quite a few pages to finally find working MP3 files, and even then they were limited. Scratch My Back was the only working one that wasn't on Deep Space Bass or wasn't too low quality to work with. The last ZIP file they had for music was GOD-AWFUL quality. Sounded like they were recorded from a pair of headphones using a microphone beneath a pillow. That really sucked, because they were awesome tracks.

Anyway...I can't stress again how much I would like someone *coughNickorAndreworanyonecough* to maybe request tracks from JBV... ^^;

I really don't think either of those are an issue with JBV himself.
On his MySpace, he used to have "Illegal Deep Space Bass Mp3's available upon request", and he also had DSB up for download on his Last.fm page a while back (which I copped, although, tomorrow I'm ordering the actual CD B) ).

Plus, he directed me to that The.Toonmaster page to download that stuff of his when I asked him about the tracks that used to be up on CN's Toonami site.

I honestly think he's the kind of guy that likes it when people like you do projects like this. ;)

And no problem on the Discogs/Art compliments, both are well deserved.
And I'll definitley be checking for those new tracks, if/when you get them up :).

And thanks for that Archive link Nick!
Only problem is, the site is blocked, and I can't download the files thru a Proxy...
Anybody mind Furking (furk.net) the files (MediaFire doesn't work for me either, I noticed Nick likes to use it)?

It was cool to see the old site design tho...

Sounds good Nick, and maybe we could do something The.Toonmaster hasn't, and put what Show/Year the tracks are from on their download.
Like right below where the .Zip files under "Contents:" or something.

I know some are easy, but it'd still be nice.

Oh, and if Toonami Arsenal doesn't mind, I've also got Mp3s' of "Struggle" and "Dragonball Z (Canadian Theme)" from their site.

Nice to join in on this interesting convo... I'll be heading your way soon with my avatar and details, Nick!

But, about JBV... I e-mailed him upon request from a fan a few months ago, and he told me that it was improbable that we'd ever hear his Toonami material.

In his own words: "I don't have master tapes of all of the tracks myself and it is very unlikely that Cartoon/Toonami would ever go through the trouble to un-archive and organize a collection of promo tracks from myself and the other artists who have done music over the years."

There's so many cool things that Cartoon Network has and I just feel like there's a goldmine somewhere in a basement at CN headquarters and I want to find it.

While we're on the subject of music, I wonder if there's a full version of this promo ---> http://youtube.com/watch?v=hoTOgQ7aaO0 it's my favorite intro of my favorite TOM. :D

Whoo, that took me back.

But, I really wonder how Cartoon is handling those master tapes... I recall Joe said one of them broke (hence why "Classic" didn't make Deep Space Bass), but I hope the others are in fair condition.

I heard about that Classic tape...

That's really sad that it got destroyed like that, and it'd be really nice of CN to give JBV the rights to the music to do as he pleases with it (after all, he had a huge hand in making the block what it was).

Did you check Toonami Digital Arsenal ( http://www.toonamiarsenal.com/)?
If it's there, download/install DVDVideoSoft's "Free Video to MP3 Converter 2.8.5.1", and rip the audio.

Of course it won't be perfect, but some people like the talking/quotes over the music.

I meant the full version of the music. Just like TOM's first intro is much longer than what it was on tv, it's called Prayer.

I forgot to mention, Calus, I was very impressed by this. I liked how you redid Arabic in particular, it packs a lot more energy than the original version and is perhaps even more goofy than the original version as well. I also liked the new version of Stride (which you called 'East') a lot. "Strings" is probably my favorite, though.

I think there is vocal remover software lying around the Web if you wanted it so you could extend the tracks from 2004-onwards. But you'd have to get creative because virtually none of those mixes have been released in their raw forms.

Maybe practicing and experimenting with those tracks might make you a real DJ someday. And who knows. Akins and DeMarco might come calling. ;)

Two random facts: I've heard 'Time's Up' used in a CN Promo with a kid who goes mountain climbing; it's been cut to hell and sounds pathetic.

I've also heard the DBZ TOM 2 rerun/DBZ Season 6 promo music (here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOt_7P7j1s0&feature=related) in a couple of the commercials for the 'Prom Night' movie. You can BARELY hear it in the ad, which is the one narrated by some guy, but it's there.

And that's all I have to say about that.

JBV's still recording, but DJ Clarknova . . . well, Jason's still doing his regular duties over Williams Street producing and all.

Zoids came and went and, sadly, hasn't seen the light of day in a good while. Still waiting for Viz to release the new series though, which isn't connected to either Zoids/0 (the competitive series) or Zoids: Chaotic Century (the fantasy series).

I don't know if I said it before, but Callus, Triple R is great!

I decided to come up with a tracklisting for Rare, Restored, Recut. It has been assembled for best flow, but it does require editing out the quotes at the beginning (easily done using Audacity) for the flow to work.

1. Chill (ESPECIALLY if you're leaving off from Deep Space Bass or the Megamix)
2. Arabic
3. East
4. Fuzz Rock
5. Time's Up
6. Exquisite (Intermission)
7. Strings
8. Rise Up
9. Scratch My Back
10. Second Coming

The MP3 files themselves are tagged as such, and they are in that order if you sort by track numbers in iTunes (for me), and they're in that order in WMP (for me).

I was curious why you mentioned a different order macattack, but I guess if the files don't show up right for everyone, it makes sense.

Hello, Toonamiverse!

I'm also a fellow fan of JBV, toonami (classic), and all the neat things you've all been discussing.

I do have some gems in my collections as well:

Rare Toonami.com mp3s (some were not linked on the main page; some were links from the Deep Space Bass CD-ROM)

And I do have a videotaped VHS of the entire Midnight Run: SE. I'm currently learning DVD authoring, so my idea was to make a dvd containing the entire show, complete with chapters at the corresponding intervals.

That, or I could splice in the original, high-quality videos from Gorillaz & Daft Punk (I have the "Celebrity Take Down" and "Interstella 5555" dvds.)

Well, hopefully someday all our toonami dreams will be realized, but until then, we have the support of each other!

EDIT: Due to a request, I have rar'd up more than 45 toonami tracks long lost from the depths of toonami.com and the secret links from Deep Space Bass.
Hope you all enjoy!

Cricket
Deep
Lockdown

And Strings as well as 2nd Coming were cleaned up by DJ Calus and avaliable in T:RRR.

WHOA. Excellent finds...

This has inspired me to get off my ass and work with a couple of these new beats. ^^

Tracks which I did not have before:

Cricket
Deep
Funktoon Mix
Lockdown
Space Groove
Strength

I about damn near pissed myself when I played Strength. It's by far my favorite beat ever froom Toonami. Then I actually did piss myself because of what plays at the end of the track.

You are a god, Dante. Hats off to you.

Man, it seems lost Toonami tracks pop up every month. How much music did JBV really compose?

I'll try to listen to your finds tomorrow, Dante. If Strength is what I think it is, I think I'll like it, but I think I'll enjoy all of them.
