Yeah, it hasn't all been a bed of roses. Sometimes TOM and the gang just let a show down. Andrew tells all.

YuYu Hakasho's rights are currently owned by FUNimation Channel, but it's not on their schedule at the moment. Hopefully when it's back on, it's uncut. IMHO, the problem was being on [adult swim] uncut, yet Toonami fans sought it out. Back then, it was probably TV-14. (RightStuf.com has the age rating as 13+, which could be TV-PG, but doubt it.) When it was moved to daytime Toonami or even SVES, it had to be hacked down to TV-Y7 FV.

YYH is TV-14 most of the time. At it's most violent and gory it may be considered borderline TV-MA. Cutting it down to Y7-FV didn't ruin it but it got rid of a great deal of the violence that made it cool. I would have liked to see it edited to PG standards but that never happened. I always thought it was odd that it seemed like it had more edits than DBZ and DBGT did. There was hardly any blood in edited Yu Yu Hakusho. I would say FUNimation went a little overboard on the editing in that reguard. Sadly they're doing the same thing with One Piece now but One Piece makes up for that by being very entertaining even without all of it's violence.

And actually FUNimation's contract for YYH does not allow them to play it on their own network. I've gotten that confirmed by a few reps at Sakura Con last year and this year (so nothing has changed in that reguard). They can play it on the syndicated block on Colours because it isn't their channel but apparently they can't play it on their own channel due to the rules of the contract. I can't imagine why Pierrot would establish such a rule but whatever...

Mostly TV-14, but sometimes TV-MA. Hmm... anyone ever heard of Blood+? ;) As for editing it to TV-PG or TV-PG V, I know you're aware YYH ran the 1st 21 eps uncut on [adult swim] in 2002. The rest was either on Toonami or SVES (Saturday Video Entertainment System) as TV-Y7 FV. In 2002-2003, Cartoon Network was too scared to run TV-PG anywhere but [as]. DBZ Uncut & Naruto didn't make CN until 2005. Kinda surprised that FUNi is cutting out a lot of violence in One Piece... :o

I'm a Lot Surprised that FUNi claims YYH on its FUNi Channel Shows Page, but the contract won't let them play it on Their Own Network. :o :o Well... if [as] got serious about anime, they could have Retro Night on Fridays & get rights again to show some old fan faves! YYH Uncut would fit right in... then again, CN/[as] isn't serious about anime... Yet...

Why wasn't duel masters or cyborg 009 on the list?

Duel Masters had a good run though they did take it off with short notice and without playing all the episodes. Rave Master got shafted considerably more after running only half a year.

Cyborg 009... though that was indeed wasted just like Gundam SEED. It seemed to do well enough on Toonami in 2003 then it was removed and returned on SVES... then removed again and finally returned late on Friday nights. In hindsight it was as wasted as Gundam SEED thought it didn't burn down a whole legacy of shows in the process.

The shows that made that list are ones that showed some amount of success (or in the case of Gundam SEED the previous series were successful) and were taken off seemingly for no good reason other than a momentary ratings scare.

Looking at this list today, I'd add One Piece to it for those very reasons even though I do thank CN for saving One Piece to an extent.

The Batman is probably the weakest example on there but then again it seemed to be fine in the first season but then for whatever reason CN started acting like it was a disease and toss it on Boomerang of all places after a few more sparatic airings on Toonami. It never made sense... and I didn't even like The Batman until season 4 but I knew some people did.

Nominees that didn't make the cut would be Cyborg 009, Rave Master, One Piece (at least now), DICE and Megas XLR (it had a short but seeming strong enough run but then they just threw it out... hardly fair).
