Where are we and how did we get here? Andrew gives us a history lesson.

Sadly Andrew as well as many other who constantly repeat it.

Toonami should just die.

It's truly as sad depressing day when Toonami Faithful admits it.
I wonder though will Jetstream still be "Toonami" if it does die seeing how well its doing?

In the end,it seems the Faithful are at a crossroads.

Either start a Revolution [ala Jeff] or Jet have it die already.

I myself am at the crossroads itself, stuck between the two.

You know I should have edited that before Nick put it up because Jeff's call to arms has me thinking Toonami is worth saving and killing it now would still be quite premature.

Also... my editor seems to have either added or missed a few typos.

Well darn it, you should've said something. (Although I believe what you say is still relevant and worthwhile, even if the situation changed a bit.) Where are the typos?

Good article. Everytime I hear someone say they have no idea what CN is doing, I can't help but think there's something behind the scenes going on. Something that they're planning for.

Well, before it was discovered that Blue Dragon was going to be a rerun I was considering that Blue Dragon will finish in Japan this April, right when Toonami is due to air it. Again, Blue Dragon is being rushed here abnormally fast for a limited-run anime.

And guess what will be due to finish in Japan in April 2009, right when Blue Dragon will be airing its final episodes in the United States?

Gundam 00.

But then Blue Dragon was discovered to be a rerun and now I am no longer certain of the long-term plans of CN here.

I do agree with what is happening to Toonami in terms of show diversity. Once One Piece and DBZ are done for all that will air is Viz material, barring Bakugan. One Adult Swim, Viz stuff dominates too, though Bandai Entertainment is making a final stand with Code Geass in April.

Viz can actually be almost as bad as 4kids when they want to be. For each show they treat right (Death Note, Bleach) there's shows that gets altered beypnd necessity (Zatch Bell! and MAR). Even Naruto did not receive original Japanese openings on TV until later in the show's run.

But after the IGPX failure it seems that CN just plain does not trust anything from anybody other than Viz or CN themselves anymore. FUNimation's involvement with One Piece was something CN inherited, so that situation doesn't really count. CN has become very risk-averse and when Toonami could be being primed for its best year in recent memory it is pretty much being prepared to die.

Though now I am left wondering whether Williams Street even has control over the block anymore. I don't think Akins and DeMarco are involved with the block anymore. They would not tolerate the block being halved. And I'm sure Adult Swim would have intervened to save Toonami by now if Williams Street had any measure of control over the block.

I think the people at Techwood are now the de facto controllers and programmers of Toonami.

As an aside, I like that Foo Fighters quote in the first sentence. :)

The whole thing, to me, feels just like one guy whining and treating his opinion like fact.

The problem is that Toonami is actually in trouble, though.

I think Andrew pretty much explained what the current state of Toonami is. The problem is, Toonami isn't too bad but it's not as good as it could be and it seems to be dieing off.
