Mackenzie finishes his retrospective of Outlaw Star with a look at what the series did for the block, the network, and anime in the States. http://www.toonamifan.com/toonamioutlawretro2.html |

It would be a good look if Outlaw Star came to Toonami Jetstream. It is definitely one of the best shows that has ever been on Toonami. A full hour of Naruto followed by Outlaw Star, and Samurai Jack? Sounds interesting. But for the moment it seems like Blue Dragon is here to stay. Nice article. Makes me realize how much I miss Outlaw Star. |

IIRC, that 'pagua sanfa' chant that the Kei Pirates are always throwing around means 'the way of power'. Just sayin'. |

Yeah, I thought it went something like that. As for running Outlaw Star behind Naruto . . . Why not? I sincerely believe Outlaw Star would hold onto nearly all of Naruto's viewers, if not all of them, or could even increase the 6-14 average. Picking it up for a short run would be fantastic short-term for Cartoon Network. Why? If Williams Street still has all of those old Moltar clips and promos, they still have the edited Outlaw Star tapes. They don't need to pay up for new tapes or to re-edit Outlaw Star. It already has been edited, and they have the tapes. All they need is to pay for the short license and Outlaw Star is ready to go. Bandai probably won't force CN to pay a lot of money because Outlaw Star is such an old license so it's cost-effective. And if CN can rerun old DBZ they can definitely run Outlaw Star, in any case Outlaw Star has definitely aged better than DBZ in all forms. And it would perform fantastically behind Naruto. Outlaw Star does a fantastic job of selling itself, with so many action sequences in the first episode I'd bet that the audience watching Naruto would have their jaws on the floor before the episode would be over. The two "ick" scenes in the first episode are edited out, so there is no need to worry about that setting off parental alarms. At the same time, the underlying theme is "adventure", because Gene and company are traversing the stars on a journey to find a certain goal (the Galactic Leyline). So it fits in with the "fantasy adventure" theme CN wants to propogate. It is win-win. Cost effective ratings and to probably nearly the entire Naruto audience Outlaw Star would be a brand-new show. It would enable Toonami to hold out until the fall and the new block (or perhaps revamped Toonami) would be ready. |

So That's where that comes from & what it means! Neat... As a newbie otaku who would like to see stuff uncut on [adult swim] rather than cut on Toonami (yeah, Aisha would have to be pixilated... I can live with it... :P), but if Outlaw Star could come back, even with the "Toonami cut", I'd watch it. Could they re-edit it to TV-PG V? Well, according to Jeff Harris, they're the same... Never Mind!

1. I'd like to recomend another Space Western anime I've seen recently, Gun Sword. I've only seen two episodes, but I feel it can beconsidered in theis genre. 2. None of the videos are working for me, but that's fine. 3. Viz may own the rights to manga, but Bandai owns the anime still, right. Just having the manga rights isn't going to let them put out there anime now is it. 4. "Planted the seed for Adult Swim" I have to disagree with this. I'd say Gundam Wing Uncut planted the seed. Outlaw Star watered it, though. 5. Your last article got me up and I finally watch the Outlaw Star DVDs I have. The last eight episodes, includeing my first chance to watch the hot springs episode. I think I may go to your last article's thread and argue some more there on things. But of course now I need to get the other sets. |

Loved the review(s) Mackenzie, I thought you had some really good insight. Outlaw Star is one of my all-time favorite Toonami series (even tho there are so many ;)...), I even bought the original gold/black DVD Box-Set released back in '01. |

Finding out about the space trifecta makes perfect sense from on the outside looking in. Explains the actions of William Street for Cowboy Bebop, Trigun and the re-airring of Outlaw Star. I guess my whole question with Toonami and William Street the entire lifespan of both [as] and Toonami is simple, why? I see why both have gone downhill and crashed and burned on top of their adoring fans...but how could a CEO come in and destroy the essence of both blocks. It just doesn't make sense to me. It seems simple to allow the staff to do as they will with their successful blocks, and it seems even more elementary logic to allow them to break off into their own channels. After all, it simply means more revenue, more ads, more money. So how can Toonami be at the top and then simply fall? Look at what Outlaw Star did for both blocks....why couldn't have been Outlaw Star been the beginning and a new channel be the ending? |
