I'm strongly against the whole (pardon the bad pun!) reunion fiasco. A predominantley male version of Hole, a sound that is a travesty to the true Hole, butchering Hole's legacy, the lack of Eric, the fact that everyone now calls Hole "her" (Courtney), and that it dismantles any chance of a proper Hole reunion in the future.

Opinions?

If I were to ask courtney what makes this a "hole" record she wouldnt be able to answer, theres nothing Hole about it.

This is a Courtney Love record, if this was named a Hole record when she first began recording it would be a little different, it just seems like she slapped "Hole" on it and thought that no one would notice the other 3 missing members. Micko is NOT Hole.

Even though Courtney & Kurt were the most essential members of their bands they cannot take credit for all the music, i mean you dont see Dave Grohl making a Nirvana record....

All I can say is that the music will speak for itself and it really doesnt matter what she calls it, the new Samantha song has "Courtney Love" written as the artist in my iTunes and I don't think I will ever really think of this as Hole.

I couldn't agree more. Everything you said is exactly what's wrong with this. And I mean, I even like what I've heard of this way more than Celebrity Skin. But it's not a Hole record at all.

Not only that, but Eric was way more important than any of the other members of Nirvana. Eric wrote tons of the music they played, and like I've said before, he played almost all of the guitar, even live you can see courtney wasn't playing that much.

I voted in the nay. I see it as a Courtney Love record rather than a hole record. I agree all male members of the band..the Eric equation now missing. It was her solo album before as Courtney Love not Hole. If she wanted to do it as a Hole album could've at least had some original or past member of the band. At the same time not much any of us can do about it..Courtney is going to do what she wants to do.

Ahah I'm the only one who voted YAY!

My humble opinion is:

1) as long as the album is good, and I really like the new version of Samantha, I really don't care if the name on the cover is HOLE or COURTNEY LOVE

2) if the name is HOLE it will be exciting to have a new Hole record, just for the pleasure of listening Hole again

3) about the old members... it's quite normal for a band to have lineup changes. Look at the Distillers, from the first album to the last one the only original member was Brody Dalle, but no one complained. Even though Eric Erlandson was extremely important to Hole, the driving force of the band, the IMAGE of the band, the element that kept everyone interested and fascinated was Courtney. So Courtney Love IS NOT Hole, obviously, but in my opinion Hole without Eric is possible, Hole without Courtney is not.

...and Melissa? of course it would have been marvellous to have her in the band, but... well... she's releasing a new album and stuff and we can see from the discussions that we care a lot more of Courtney than her.

So, yes, I'm pleased to have a Hole reunion, even if it's not the "old" Hole. But again, what is the "old" Hole? We've had soooo many lineup changes, this could be just another one...

I think I'd be okay with it if Eric gave it the OK.

I dunno...it's just all odd. I guess we'll all deal lol

I'm all for her getting on track and all but it's not a band record until she calls it "Nobody's Children" or something like someone else on here suggested. "Nobody's Daughter" really only represents Courtney Love, therefore it feels like a Courtney Love record.

In the Clash article she said that "Nobody's Daughter" refers to Francis.

So she writes a song about her father, in the song sings "I am nobody's daughter", and then tells us it's about Frances? Phoney justification, if you ask me... :erm:

So she writes a song about her father, in the song sings "I am nobody's daughter", and then tells us it's about Frances? Phoney justification, if you ask me... :erm:

CLASH: Are the lyrics in the song ‘Nobody’s Daughter’ (“Nobody’s daughter, she never was / She never will be beholden to anyone / She cannot kill, you don’t understand how evil we really are”) about Frances?

COURTNEY: Yeah. I was going to change it to ‘I’. But it’s not, it is what it is. It’s her vengeance. It’s [Nirvana’s ‘In Utero’ song] ‘Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle’ part two. Mixed with ‘The Candidate’ from [David Bowie’s] ‘Diamond Dogs’. Mixed with a little bit of [Pink Floyd’s] ‘The Wall’.

CLASH: Is it the title of the album because you identify with that notion too, of being nobody’s daughter?

COURTNEY: Very much so.

ME: nothing really phony there, especially as Clash is the one that brings it up and she says it refers to her as well.

Well, even I'm excited about the new record and all, I would like her to change the name, cos most of the people are so pissed off... It's ok by me if she calls it Hole, fine, cos I know it's not. I didn't wote, cos it's not reunion in any ways.
