Geeks Do Not Have Pedigrees
Hi everybody!

I'm a 19-year-old man from Bordeaux, France, I study British/American literature and history, and I'm a Hole fan (how surprising, right?). My favorite albums are POTI and LTT, although I believe the most interesting bits from Hole's career lie in the outtakes, the B-sides and the original live songs, which is why I love the bootlegs. I'm not a big collector though (since I'm kindda broke).
I was a big Nirvana fan in the early-to-mid 2000's, and of course I'd heard of Courtney but I wasn't very interested in her or her music. I became a fan in 2004 when I was 12 and I heard CL's "Mono" on MTV. I used to love AS but now I can't stand to listen to more than 10 minutes of this record. I believe the songs were good at some point, but that the production sucked and that Courtney's vocals were just awful. When I heard what she had done in Hole, I quickly dismissed AS as being very low in quality compared to what CL had done before.
In recent years, I was all the more disappointed by post-CS Courtney with the decision to "reunite" Hole and with the overall quality of ND, which SHOULD have been released in 2007-08 when the demos were actually good. I still like some tracks on the record, but I really expected much, MUCH more from this album.

My other musical interests are other late 80s/early 90s acts (L7, Babes in Toyland, Mudhoney, Pixies, Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey, Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr, Big Black, the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spacemen 3,...), protopunk/garage rock (The Stooges, The Velvet Underground, MC5, Patti Smith,...), and current US underground bands (Ty Segall, Vivian Girls/The Babies/Best Coast, Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls, A Place to Bury Strangers,...) It's hard to make a definitive list, but let's just say I have a big interest in rock'n'roll.
I also like independent/subversive movies and "rockumentaries" (DiG, Not Bad For a Girl, 1991 The Year Punk Broke,...)
Finally, I enjoy reading 20th century literature (Samuel Beckett, Jack Kerouac, William Burroughs, Sylvia Plath, Virginia Woolf, George Orwell, Salinger,...)

I'm also a member of the French Hole forum Sugar Coma, if anyone's heard of it (or if anyone's a member, that should be interesting :D) My username there is Nevermore (Poe reference, yes). I can't promise I'll be a big poster on these boards, or that I will bring much contribution, I hope you can forgive me.

"These two girls show up dressed completely crazy. We set up and they said, 'Okay, just start playing something.' I started playing and they started screaming at the top of their lungs for two or three hours. Crazy lyrics and screaming. I said to myself, 'Most people would just run away from this really fast.' But I heard something in Courtney's voice and lyrics." EE
