P R E S E N T Personality: It’s best to describe Valya as three entirely different people, as she is so damn complicated. Or maybe not so entirely different. But lets call them weird, weirder, and weirdest. So lets begin with ‘weird’. This is the part of Valya that nobody sees, or at least, not anymore. It’s the part of her which can be pretty anti social when she wants to be, and nobody; not even being her Luna’s daughter, can take that away from her. This part of her is only let out when she’s emotionally stressed, or hurt, or damaged beyond repair. Whenever this part of her is under control, Valya won’t talk to anyone at all. She’d be quiet, she won’t come out of her room for days on end, and she won’t eat as well either. It shows how breakable, how sensitive Valya is; not everyone has gone through having to watch their father get killed after all. Anyway, this part of her remains emotionally detached. When she’s in this phase, she wouldn’t even be hurt if someone says something nasty to her. In fact – chances are she’d probably just ignore you completely and stare into space.
Moving onto the weirder, or not so weirder really; but all teens are pretty weird, and Valya is the weirdest of them all to be honest. When Vayla isn’t like that, she is actually pretty fun. She is known for her quirkiness and witty comments around Hogwarts, along with being easy to get along with. Occasionally, she will come out with something completely random, or weird, and people will stare, but apart from that, she’s seen as a happy go lucky child, who just wants to have fun, and get through school without hassle. Valya is pretty smart, and as said, is known for her quirky attitude around school. She does however, keep her opinions to herself, especially around strangers, where she becomes pretty shy around. She doesn’t make new friends too easily if they’re new to school, and it would take her a view weeks to talk to a new person before they would actually click. However, when she has made friends with someone, she’d do anything for them. She’d jump in front of a car to save them; she is pretty protective of her friends.
And then, the weirdest. And trust me when I say this is completely the true daughter of Luna lovegood. She’s like this when she’s with her family mostly, or someone she knows won’t laugh at her, or will agree with her ideas. When she’s in this phase, she will definitely speak her mind, and constantly say some pretty odd things which would get anyone thinking she was completely mental. She does believe in nargles thanks, and around her brother and her mum she isn’t afraid to let people know that. She is also very truthful in this form; bluntly truthful in fact, unless she knows the truth will hurt someone – she hates to see her family hurting, because it means she’ll get hurt too, and she can’t bear to see her family or herself for that matter, acting that way. Nevertheless, she has a good heart, and will be someone you can count on most of the time to help you in your time of need.
Physical Appearance: Although people expect slight ‘lunatics’ to look like some sort of gypsy reject, Valya is the complete opposite. In fact, you probably wouldn’t find her weird until you actually speak to her. She has the sort of look which says beautiful and brainy all in one. But what does Valya Corner really look like, hmm? Like her mother, Valya has beautiful blond hair, which goes down past her shoulders. She loves her hair, and enjoys making up new ideas to style it, all the time. It will never be the same once a week. Her favourite style is cutting it to shoulder length, as a sort of crop, and dying it a white blond colour (like this!), which she finds most suits her.
Valya’s eyes are a light shade of blue, and they’re the type which often shine, making her look constantly surprised (depending whether or not she has her mouth open to enhance that emotion). It’s her eyes which she puts the most make up on; mostly eye shadow or mascara, and she often puts so much on, it’s hard to see whether it’s the makeup making her eyes look slanted upwards, or her eyes themselves. For the record, it’s mostly the makeup, but nobody can deny that they are slightly smaller than average.
Moving on, Valya’s lips. Her lips are a rosy colour, and very full. She doesn’t like to put a lot of lipstick or gloss on her lips, because she honestly doesn’t suit it. Her nose? She hates her nose. It is, for lack of a better word, triangular, and often juts out. She can’t stand it. Worst part of her face.
And lastly, her whole body. Valya stands at a healthy five ft seven, with a weight of onehundred and twenty lbs to match. Her skin colour changes often depending on the season; during the winter it is pale, whilst during the summer, it is slightly tanned. House: ravenclaw Affiliation: order of the phoenix, Hogwarts. Career: n/a. Years of Service: n/a. P A S T Character History: Valya was born to Luna and Michael Corner, two ravenclaws who were pretty much polar opposites. In fact, growing up Valya often considered the possibility that her father was a robot in disguise, since he wouldn’t have married her mother otherwise. She had to listen to the two constantly fighting, arguing, her father often sending her mother snide, witty comments her way on her belief of wrackspurts, nargles, and crumple horned snorkacks, which he believed did not exist. That was stupid actually. Of course they existed. He just… didn’t know it. She was the youngest child, meaning she was often considered the baby. It was natural for this to happen of course, but Valya hated it. She was constantly trying to prove that she was just as intelligent as her brother, and her parents, despite not having as many years of life as them, though most of the time she failed miserably. They just seemed smarter than her and it was very annoying.
Her life just seemed to go a little bit downhill when she was seven -- her father had been arguing and arguing with Luna, and threatening to file a divorce, because she just wasn’t the one for him. Whoever said opposites attract must have been an idiot. Eventually, Luna had had enough, and she chucked him out, stating that it was her house and she could therefore do as she pleased. Michael left an hour later, and Valya went with him; though of course being just a child she didn’t pack anything; to persuade him to come back. However, barely ten minutes down the road, a wizard apparated through the night’s sky towards them. He asked her father questions which he didn’t understand, and eventually killed him, right in front of his daughter’s eyes. This is how Valya can see thestrals. Valya ran home to her mother’s open arms and explained what had happened – she didn’t know he was dead of course. Her mother reckoned he owed people money, and they had eventually got sick of waiting for him. When Valya finally realized he wasn’t coming back, she went into a stage of depression, becoming very antisocial and refusing to speak to anyone. Eventually, when she was ten, just before her brother was about to leave for Hogwarts he snapped her out of it, and she slowly began to wake up from her coma-like state. She was never quite the same bubbly child she had been as a kid, but she was close enough.
When Valya was eleven, she went to Hogwarts. The young girl was sorted into ravenclaw, and at first made a lot of friends. She was never as ‘looney’ as her mother, always deciding to keep her opinions to herself unless she was sure they would be one hundred percent appreciated. Her first year was quite fun, in some respects – she wasn’t afraid to be friends with anyone, not even slytherins; who oddly enough she’d rather hang out with, unless they were being prejudice prats. She hung out with a lot of gryffindors too, which often made the ‘snakes’ think she was barmy. She couldn’t hang out with both of them, could she? But throughout her school life, it never mattered to her.
Now Valya is in her fourth year at Hogwarts. The past few years have been pretty cool, though quite a bumpy road. Though she hasn’t forgotten her past history, and she hasn’t truly gotten over it.
Life Changing Events: ”That’s it Michael! I’ve had enough! Enough of you and how you don’t appreciate me! Get out of my god damn house!
”Excuse me? Your house? YOUR house?!”
”That’s right! I paid for it, so out out out!”
”Fine, and maybe I’ll get a divorce two!”
”FINE!”
Valya watched as the door slammed shut on Michael an hour later, his suitcases thrown out next to him. She looked at her older brother, and frowned, a little confused. What had just happened? No, seriously, what? She didn’t understand it in the slightest, but she knew that her papa would never be coming back to live here, as a happy family. Technically, they were never a ‘happy’ family to begin with, but every family has their disputes, right? Of course. Everything will be fine. But she had to get daddy back. The young seven year old opened her door, and ran out into the night, wearing only her nightie, socks, and slippers. It was almost midnight, and Valya had honestly wondered why she wasn’t in bed by now. Perhaps it was because her mother was shouting so much, she had completely forgotten about curfews and the likes. After a few minutes, she caught up with her father, who was walking in the middle of the street. ”Papa, come home.” she begged, tugging on his arm. He looked down at her warmly, and smiled. ”I’m sorry hunny, but your mother… we’re very different. She doesn’t want me around anymore. I guess we’ve never been the perfect couple.” he replied. Valya continued to tug at his arm. ”Then make it better.” she begged. ”It’s not that simply Valya, I can’t just buy her flowers and expect—“ he began, but his words were cut short. At that moment, someone else had appeared in the street. A man. He looked pretty scruffy, and dark. His skin was waxy, as though he hadn’t seen sunlight in years, and his hair was ragged, a pitch black colour.
”Ahh, Roderick. What a pleasant surprise.” my father spoke, though all of a sudden he looked uncomfortable. ”Don’t patronise me, Corner. You know I need that money.” he replied, in a gruff voice. Valya looked from her father to the man named Roderick in surprise, a little confused. She didn’t understand. Since when did her father owe money to anyone? They hadn’t borrowed from a bank or anything. Unless this was some sort of gambling money. But her father wouldn’t gamble, would he? “Five thousand galleons you owe me, and you’ve had two weeks to pay up. Time’s up.” the man spoke, pulling out his wand. A flash of green light erupted from it, and her father was flung into the air. Finally, he acknowledge Valya’s presence, and flashed her a tooth grin. ”What do we have here then? A little spy?” he asked her. She felt like she couldn’t move. Was he going to do to her what he did to her daddy? But daddy would be alright, wouldn’t he? He’d survive, right? After what seemed like hours, she shook her head, shaking out of her boots. He grinned again, maliciously. ”You didn’t see anything, got it?” She nodded, and he disappeared. Then Valya ran, as fast as her little legs would carry her, to warn her mother of what she had just seen.
R P :: E X A M P L E Valya was pretty tired. She had been up all night studying in the library for an exam the next day, and now it was morning. Bloody hell. Exhausted, Valya rubbed her eyes, and let out a yawn, feeling pretty stupid. Maybe a wrackspurt had gotten into her brain and fuzzed it up so much that she’d fail? Oh yuck, that’d be disastrous! Then she’d have to explain to her professor why she failed, and would probably get locked up in an asylum for ‘thinking such things exist’. It’s not her fault most people around here are so narrow minded, that they wouldn’t know the truth if it slapped them across the face. It was quite annoying really.
Letting out another yawn, Valya stood up, and looked around. The library was still pretty dark, but Madam Pince was in there as usual. My, she was getting quite old – the young ravenclaw was sure she must have drunk an aging potion overnight, because she didn’t look onehundred and two last time she checked. But she didn’t come here much really. Nevertheless, Valya gave a smile, as she passed.
”Been here all night, have you?” she asked, a smirk on her face. Valya just smiled pleasantly. ”You should really stop mumbling like that, I can’t understand a word you’re saying.” she replied. Well, it was true. She was mumbling or maybe Valya was just going deaf, and she didn’t like it. The librarian just glared at her, and allowed her to leave. As she did, she looked at her hair. My, is that a nargle in there? Yes, it looks that way. She shook her head, deciding it wasn’t the right time or person or place for that matter to say such things. She couldn’t help but think of the consequences. She just gave a nod, and walked out.
Once outside in the cool breeze, Valya sat down nearby the lake. She needed to relax, to get away from everyone before class started. A normal person would go and have breakfast, but she wasn’t hungry, and besides – she could always get something later on. Maybe if she couldn’t do the test because she was so hungry she’d be excused, and would be able to reset it another day. Ahh, now there was an idea. As she wondered this, she felt it – tiny amounts of water splashing against her skin. Her eyes, which had been closed for some time now, opened, and she smiled pleasantly. Ahh, rain. Glorious rain. Within seconds it was thrashing down, and Valya, completely and utterly soaked, stayed sat there – her jeans turning a dark shade of blue, and her tshirt almost see through, hanging off him slim figure, like some sort of statue – a look you could only find in fairytales.
