Radiance

The red fox laid in his bed fast asleep. He looked comfy in his bed with a blue blanket nestled around his furry body. His stereo rang the faint tunes of dance music that he used every night to calm him into sleep. The room remained in dark tranquility as the moonlight pierced his window into the room. Erikku began tossing around in his bed. Something was disturbing him in his sleep.

Silent voices called out to him, “You are of the blood….. it is your destiny.” He called back in his sleep, “Destiny?” His face moved to the other pillow. The voices continued calling out the same phrase to him until Erikku finally awoke. He sat up in his bed panting from suddenly being disturbed from his sleep. He felt his head and thought to himself for a moment. He shook off his dream and turned toward his digital clock. The red numbers told him it was a little past five in the morning. He sighed to himself wishing he could fall back asleep, but the dream had shaken him up a little too much.

He arose from his bed and made his way into his kitchen. He felt a desire to drink something so he approached the humming fridge opening it to explore his choices. He had his sodas Diet Vanilla Coke, Diet Pepsi, and Mello Yello. There was also some Kool-Aid and Lemonade in pitchers. He also noticed the carton of milk in the side of the fridge. Considering what time he had woken up he decided to spring for the Mello Yello. It considered it his morning coffee despite it being a cold drink. He poured himself a large glassful with a couple icecubes inside. As he let the citrus flavor flow through his mouth he looked around the dark kitchen and thought to himself.

What did the voices mean of destiny? Is it really true? If it was would this mean anything good? For part of the day Erikku thought up what could possibly be the meaning of what the voices stated. His friends dismissed his thoughts telling him that it was only a dream and that it more than likely meant nothing.

The next night Erikku found himself walking through a stone temple. With his hands firmly in his pockets he walked along gazing around wondering where he was. The place was not lit at all by fires or anything, but the moonlight shined through the large square openings of the temple. They cast large squares of light that lit the floor and Erikku followed them down the hall. He finally reached the final one which lit a monk meditating with his back turned to the red fox. Erikku watched him for a moment in the monk’s meditative trance.

Finally the old monk spoke, “You seek an answer furry wielder of the flame.” Erikku hesitated for a moment then replied, “Yes, the voices told me of a destiny that lies before me; that I am of the blood…. What does this mean?” A brief moment of silence stood in the dimly lit room as the fox watched the sitting monk. “Your destiny lies within the brightest ray of moonlight shining upon the Earth. Go there and you will find the answer,” the monk spoke silently and vanished into thin air.

Suddenly Erikku awoke once again in his bed. It was another dream he thought to himself. This one however seemed more convincing to him. “The brightest ray of moonlight shining upon the Earth” he pondered.

The following night he stood outside gazing at the moon. He noticed a big difference as a huge ray of light beamed from it toward a far off horizon. He could not believe it. Quickly he grabbed his cell and dialed Riikka’s number.

“Hello,” she answered.

“Hey,” Erikku answered back in a pleasant tone. “Hey,” she replied. “I want you to look outside at the moon right now and see if you notice anything different,” he inquired her. A brief moment passed on the phone and Riikka replied, “I see nothing different at all with the moon tonight.” “Don’t you see a huge ray of light beaming off into the horizon?” Erikku answered in a confused tone. “No nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe you’re seeing things weird bud,” she replied back. “Well ok then bye.” “Bye.” Erikku hung up the phone.

He felt puzzled as to why Riikka did not see it. Perhaps Erikku was the only one that could see it since it had to do with his own destiny. He turned again toward the moon. Perhaps he needed to see what lies for him. He gathered some necessities for himself and set off toward the beam of light in the horizon. He spent two nights walking toward the light and resting in the daytime. Finally during the third night he reached to where the beam shone like spotlights in the sky.

Ruins lay where the light touched the ground. The area was filled with many rocks and sorts and four tall pillars stood. In the middle was a figure of a man waiting for something. Erikku made his way down and stepped into the bright beam of moonlight. The figure of the man looked clearer now. He floated slightly in the air his body glowing of power. His figure swiveling as he stared at the red fox. A large tattoo resembling a scar dominated his chest extending toward his arms and shoulder.

“Greetings Erikku I have been awaiting your arrival,” the man spoke in an evil tone. Erikku sprung into stance. “Who are you?” he yelled toward the man. “I am the one who will purify the world of its scum. I am your worst nightmare,” spoke the man. He suddenly motioned and sent out a strange mosaic of energy toward Erikku. Quickly Erikku rolled out of the way as the mosaic missed him. He immediately began running toward the man.

“I don’t know who you are or who you know you’re up against, but you are surely about to die,” he yelled as he ran toward him ready to rip him apart. The figure began making simple motion unleashing pillars of energies from the ground where Erikku walked. The fox dodged them and unleashed a punch towards the man. The man however slipped out his hand and seemingly stopped the attack as a circle of glass energy shattered sending Erikku flying away from him.

Erikku stood on one knee panting from the blow he had just received. Truly this was a type of person he had never fought before. The man continued his attacks this time sending out a bigger kaleidoscope of energy at Erikku. He stood on his feet and jumped out of the way as the energy again missed him. Erikku then launched a shower of flames towards the man who simply cast them off toward the side. The man paused still floating in the air.

“You fight well Erikku, but you are nothing compared to my power,” he causally spoke. Suddenly a huge spark of light erupted from his hands and the area grew pitch black. Erikku prepared for the worse as showers of kaleidoscope-like energy began descending upon him. The man floated in the air posing as energy spun behind him. He laughed evilly as he watched the shower of energy pour onto the red fox who tried desperately to hold off the power. It became too much for Erikku to handle and the energy began sapping his furry body until it stopped leaving him unconscious on the ground.

Erikku had been knocked out. As he lay there unconscious Erikku heard the voices calling out to him. “You are not through Erikku… the moon…. the moon… use the power of the moon.” Erikku awoke as the man floated toward him. Quickly he got up and delivered a quick blow knocking the figure away. “The power of the moon” he thought to himself. Erikku gazed once again toward the bright white circle in the sky that shined brightly on the area. He reached up towards it and felt a strange sensation throughout his body. Suddenly a bright light of energy burst from his hand. It manifested itself as Erikku felt its energy circulating around his body.

“I feel…. THE POWER” he yelled and charged up all his energy. The energy had charged up to a huge sphere that rested on his hand. Erikku watched the man stand up With a yell of rage Erikku flung the energy toward the man whom was blown away by it’s intensity. For a while Erikku stood waiting for any retaliation from the man, but alas he remained lying on the ground. Erikku walked toward the man and gazed at him. The man lied there eyes open looking into the sky. “Indeed you are strong Erikku. I look forward to our true battle,” he spoke softly and then slowly disincarnated away.

The area grew dark and the wind began to stir blowing the grass and Erikku’s hair around. The moon was no longer brightly shining on the area in which Erikku stood. He gazed again at it admiring what it had given him. “Who was this powerful man he fought and what true battle awaited him?” he thought to himself. With his palm in the air Erikku gathered the same bright energy in his hand and flung it at the standing pillar making it collapse.

Erikku had discovered a new power. “One” he thought, “that gave me intense energy.” The leaves scrapped against the ground as Erikku stood in the ruins. Whoever the voices were he thanked them for allowing him to achieve this unknown energy. He then gathered himself, his belongings, and set out for home.

End.... at least for now
