What forum software do you prefer?

I notice that, nearly everyone here either has a forum or has tried but failed. So, heres a question: What software do you prefer? If you're not sure what i'm talking about, here is a list of popular ones:

-InvisionPower board v1.3 FINAL (Limited):
~Invisionfree runs on this. Note that its not the best choice, by far it can acually be the worst. Recommended for people whom are creating a board for the very first time, but not many others.

~TTFF runs on this software.

-MyBB
~ My forum runs on this. Highly recommended. Its free, and just as easy as invisionfree if you know what you're doing. If you're interested in this and can't figure it out, PM me. It is also much more powerful than invisionfree.

-vBullitain
~ This seems to be the choice of most large communities, though i'm not sure why. Sort of like Invision's lineup, but it seems to be more powerful, and comes at a powerful price, so be ready to pay.

-InvisionPower board 2.0
~ Most major forums run on this. think of it as a much more capable and advanced invisionfree, with a slightly nicer design and more features. This is not free. Be expected to pay for this board, and when buying it know that you'll have a succsessful community, or your money is wasted.

-SMF boards
~ I'm not too familiar with this board. Like MyBB and PhpBB, it must be setup on a server of your choice.

-PhpBB
~ Not familiar with this one either, but its another popular one.

A link to each:

Invisionfree (IPB 1.3) - http://invisionfree.com/
MyBB - http://mybboard.com/
PhpBB - http://phpbb.com/
SMF - http://www.simplemachines.org/
InvisionPower 2.0+ - http://invisionpower.com/

So, which one of these does your forum, if you have one, run on? Or, which one do you like best? I prefer MyBB out of all of them.

[NCP] is running on IPB 1.3.

I would change it to something else, but I'm too lazy just now. I might when I decide to do a total rehaul of the whole of NCP

Vbulletin is the best. It has the most features by far, and is what most big forums use.

Invision free is the best free imo, since it has the most features of any free forums, not to mention all the add ons such as forum money, the arcade, and all that stuff.

Invision or phpBB. Invision because its got a good set of features, is secure, and works really well. phpBB because its very modifiable, free, and has allot of support.

My forum has a much better currency system than you can find on invisionfree. Its not complete yet though, so i'll let you see for yourself sometime in the future..

And kilo, they all have good support and are highly customizeable. Except invisionfree, which has little support thanks to "Zetaboards", and is hardly customizeable at all.

Yea, then again, that's the HOST (InvisionFree), not the actual forum software that is the cause of that. I am sure if they allowed direct access to the database and the forum files, people could heavily modify it.

But personally from experience, myBB seems too simplistic, I don't like the way vBulliten manages things, and whatnot. I have had no experience with SMF though.

*Small-ish bump* o.o

The host though, invisionfree, edited some things.. And the whole point is, its NOT heavily modifiable beacuse they do lock you out of database and storage, which pretty much kills any potential right there.

Vbullitain is sort of wierd to me, and I don't like SMF becuase of the way it looks. Mybb isn't any more simplistic than the other softwares. You can edit things the right way if you don't like the easy way; convienance is never a bad thing.

You can host a forum for free, it doesn't have to be invisionfree. Find a host, preferrably one that does not automatically set up your board, like invisionfree, becuase that probably means you'll be very limited.

Yea, it must of been a site with a older version of myBB then ^^;. Also, I know, I hosted forums before, even on my own small webserver. But for a forum as big as TTFF, I would just keep the InvisionFree because of the bandwidth requirements for the site would probity be too high for your usual free website host.
