yesterday morning at 4:00am the Cutty Sark in Greenwich burnt down. The Cutty Sark was a ship built in the 1869. It was a Tea Clipper. Its job was to trade tea to the British colonies. The Cutty Sark then was in a race across the globe from China to London. -_-

The Cutty Sark was the last Tea Clipper in the world and was badly damaged due to a fire yesterday. The case is treated as suspicious and it is believed it was perposely set on fire.

The Cutty Sark was considered by many people a great piece of British history and just before the fire it was under restoration. Basically there were gas tanks on board and I have the theory that someone threw a petrol bomb at it.

I can't believe some people :TailsSad:

They won't be given life because it's the UK and no-one (even murders, ect) gets life. <_<

They might not even find the people responsible.

There's no way to find them easily. Lots of investigation, but all the evidence is burned =P

I've never heard of the ship, but sounds rough

never heard of the ship

However I do know that it is easy to tell if a fire was arson, but it is near impossible to figure out who did it.

(my dad's a firefighter, thats how I know)

Yea, it might be years before they figure out who did this. But it is just downright wrong for someone to do this to a piece of history like that...

It's a travesty that such a big peice of British History has been seriously dmamaged like this... I can't believe that someone would do it, why would you destroy something the nation enjoys so much? Thank god that it was only the hulls that werer badly damaged, because the giant mast & the other important bits were beig stored somewhere else

The Greenwich area of London has lost a vital bit of tourist income from this devistating fire... I hope the person who did it gets caught :TailsMad:

criminals in Britain can get a life sentance. Its unlikely though e.g the "Yorkshire Ripper" in 1981 got 20 life sentances for murdering 13 prostitutes. Another case was when Ian Ball attempted to kidnap HRH Princess Anne in 1974 he's still in prison today.

well Its most likely that the Cutty Sark was set a light by a drunk who decided to cause trouble. People need to learn respect for their history and lineage

Never heard of it.

And I don't really care about british(Read English) history much, since there's nothing about scotland which doesn't involve england - Call me absent minded, call me disrespectful, call me anything like that, still doesn't change that it doesn't affect me at all

The Cutty Sark? Wasn't that one of those ships clad with light metal plates to reduce water friction? If you'd want to burn one of those then you'd need to set fire to its rigging or (as you suggested) throw a petrol bomb onto its deck...

I still can't figure out who'd do such a thing... I mean, what's this persons quarrel with one of the most famous ships in the world?

As with others, I too have never heard of this ship but it's down right annoying that some wish to set an apparent peice of history to flame. I feel your pain though.

Nightstalker, what do you mean by "read English"?

I mean that whenever someone says "British history" it always means the same as "English history". With the one exception of William Wallace, but that involved the english as well

By the way you described the ship, a tea shipper to colonies, I can understand why someone would do this. The people who did it probably lived in a former British colony and disliked British rule. They probably think the ship, because of its uses, is a symbol of the British enjoying controlling them, when they probably didn't like it at all.

Of course, burning it probably is a bit extreme ^^;
