In this topic, you can post your views on the legendary Chicago rock band, The Smashing Pumpkins. They are one of my fav bands, and "Tonight, Tonight" is my all time fav song. Here's a breif history of the band:

The Smashing Pumpkins were formed in 1988 by Billy Corgan on lead vocals and lead guitar & James Iha also on guitar, later recruiting James Chamberlin on Drums & D'arcy Wretzky on bass guitar.

Known as one of the defyning bands of the 1990's, The Smashing Pumpkins managed to drift away from what Rock music was becoming during the early '90's, and created their own unique style.

Their 1993 release "Siamese Dream" became a mainstream success, with hits such as "Cherub Rock", "Today" & "Disarm". However the album's recording process was a tough one, with Corgan in a deep depression, Wretzky & Iha having relationship problems & Chamberlin's addiction to heroin made the recording difficult, with Billy Corgan once stating "If Siamese Dream wasn't a success, we would of broken up"

In 1995, The Smashing Pumpkins released their double album "Mellon Collie And The Infinate Sandness", the album debuted No.1 in the US and has sold over 9 million copies worldwide. With their best charting singles being released from the album: "Bullet With Butterfly Wings", "Zero", "1979", "Tonight, Tonight" & "Thirty-Three". However during the time after the album's release, Jimmy Chamberlin was fired from the band for causing himself and the touring keyboardist to have a heroin overdose, which the keyboardist didn't survive.

1998's "Adore" was a huge drift from The Smashing Pumpkin's traditional sound, now using electronic elements in their sound and using a drum machine in place of Chamberlin. The album sold only 1.1 Million copies worldwide.

Jimmy Chamberlin was then rehired by the band after they realised how different the band was without him. their 2000 release "Machina: Machines Of The Gods" only sold around 250,000 copies, which caused the band to split up later that year"

In 2005, Billy Corgan announced that he was reuniting The Smashing Pumpkins, with Jimmy Chamberlin returning on Drums, but Wretzky & Iha both stated that they were not going to be involved in the reunion. The new guitarist & bassist of the band are Jeff Schroeder & Ginger Reyes. The band are now finishing the making of their 7th studio album "Zeitgeist" scheduled out on July 10th 2007, with the 1st single, entitled "Tarantula"

Relaxing, no?

Yet coincedentally (SP?), I'm listening to Zero while I just read this XP
But ya, they're awesome. Too bad not all of the original members aren't in the reunion.
EPIC MUCH.
...Oh, hello there.

Eh, just scourging for a decent-to-good RP. If you wanna RP or would like help on background bios for characters...or anything on characters...don't be afraid to ask, heh. (May not have all the answers, just to let those who do ask me stuff, know, heh.)
Will work for the sake of working.

I haven't heard much of their music, but my dad and sister love them. Actually, I think they are coming to my town and playing 9 concerts soon. Yes, 9.

omg! I love this band! They rule! I first heard their zero song when amy Lee did a cover of it, and so I looked em up. I was like omg! They are a good band...are you serious? the Smashing Pumpkins has an album about to be released?

Close you eyes, take a deep breath, and the ask yourself on simple question, "Is where I am where I should be?"

I pick myself up from the fall to be knocked back down, though I know one day when I get back up there will be nothing left to knock me down. The question is simply this, "Will there be anything left of me?"

Leave me the reins and I'll steer myself to infinty, I've sold my soul to darker side of divinty. I've prayed with the wicked and danced with the damned, but in the end it's all in your hand. Tell me how you lead the lamb astray, searching for somethign in the shadow of the day. I sang, I danced, and laughed, and played. Broken and beaten as my spirit would fade. take my gun, take my knife, but please if you could only just spare me my life? I wasted my time and mispronounced the line, you sold away my soul on the edge of a dime. <-------( random ryhming I just made up of the top of my head. )

Father touched you with the hand of god. He's gripping tighter saying, "You will burn in hell they say, you will burn in hell!"

Yes, their first since splitting up in 2000 (SEVEN LONG AGONISING YEARS WE SP FANS HAVE HAD TO ******* WAIT!), Zeitgeist is going to be released on 9th July in the UK and 10th July in US.

Tarantula is an awesome song, and the video of the song is now on their website, you can view it by clicking this link Tarantula Music Video

Also the opening track on Zeitgeist, Doomsday Clock will be featured on the soundtrack of the film, Transformers

So when your out finding the album, look out for this artwork:Posted Image

I got Zeitgeist today, and it's great, here's the review I made (taken from my latest blog entry):

1: Doomsday Clock (9.5/10): A fantastic opener
2: 7 Shades Of Black (9/10): A great track with some good riffs
3: Bleeding The Orchid (9/10): Another great track with a brilliant load of guitar in it
4: That's The Way (My Love Is) (10/10): An Absolutely Amazing Track with a fantastic solo
5: Tarantula (10/10): A nice track, that is very addictive to listen to, also has great guitar riffs
6: Starz (7.5/10): One of the worst tracks on the album
7: United States (9/10): The longest SP track ever (9:51) and has awesome guitar and drumming in it
8: Neverlost (8/10): Another slow track that isn't as heavy as the others)
9: Bring The Light (8.5/10) A good song but has one downside, the name of the track is constantly repeated throughout the song
10: (Come On) Let's Go (8.5/10): A good track, there isn't much else I can say about it really ^^;
11: For God And Country (8.5/10): A good song, but quite slow
12: Pomp And Circumstances (7.5/10) Worst track on the album, doesn't live up to the other tracks on the album, but towards the end it does get heavier which makes the song good

FINAL RATING: 9/10: It's a good album, it was better than my expectations and has some memorable tracks, it might let down towards the end but it's still worth a listen
