I'm no hero.

What we here have is the backstory of my fursona, Shifty, in a small trilogy. I excuse myself in advance for the poor grammar, and the worse structure of some sentences. I'm still learning this language, and i must mention, i've learned a lot by working on this small story. I know it needs more work... i just wanted to show you what i have so far. Here we go, enjoy. Pt. 1: Happy 10th Birthday! Kessex City, Powers Mansion 2001, the 13th May, 9:49 PM... "It's very quiet outside." Said a tall raccoon, while spying out the window, looking trough the garden, even though he knew he couldn't spot what he feared; the mansions garden was big enough, and well planted. His name was Richard Powers, a leader of one of the many elements (SWAT squad) in Kessex city. His anxiousness wasn't for nothing. He and his family had suffered several assaults from assassins in the last three days. Driven by his heart to protect his beloved child and wife, Richard could repel the attackers, even with no help from others. It was ever so, though; the same was by Richards father, grandfather, and so on until the grounders of the family. The Powers family was unfortunately very well known in the world of criminals. As known they were, as hated too. Simply because the Powers family was good in what they were doing, which was serving justice. Hated by criminals, the family had to encounter such attacks for long back in time. In most cases, the Powers' could parry off the attacks. The few times they didn't make it... well... let's just say the Powers' aren't a big family. This kind of lifestyle made the family very experience in the field of self protection, and made them what they are today; righteous, skilled in self defense, altruist. Even when Richard was a professional, he felt the need of help, and asked the Kessex City Police Department (KCPD for short) to lend a hand for the sake of the safety of his family. KCPD was willing to help, for their best man certanly, and sent out 3 men from Richards own squad. Richard was more glad to get this 3 men, than he would have been about 6 other. He knew them personally, and knew he can trust all 3 of them. "Don't worry, dear..." Tried to calm down his husband Maria Kovacs, a beautiful, black furred female wolf with a soft voice. "You told me they are the best we can get... if they can't stop an attack, then no one." She said, and smiled softly on her husband. Richard knew she was right with what she said. "Come now, it is a very special day. I think it's time to start." She added. Richard turned away from the mirror, and looked at Maria. He noticed the warm smile on her, and couldn't resist to smile back. "You're right." He said, and walked to her to give her a small kiss, as a 'thank you' for the reassuring words. Maria giggled and looked at him. Richard looked back at her, then around in the room, as if he would search for something. "Can I ask where you hid it?" He asked curiously. "You mean his birthday present?" She asked back and laughed. "He is unbelievable, he found it 3 times already. Fortunately it is packed in a small box, and he always brought it to me without opening it, asking what it is." Richard laughed too. "This kid, he surprises us all the time. Let me say; he isn't like the children of our good friends." He said, his eyes still wandering trough the room. "Sure he isn't a normal child!" Said Maria, maybe a bit too enthusiastical. Richard turned to look at her a bit confused. He wanted to ask why she said that, but Maria already continued. "He is 'our' child." Ended Maria, and they both laughed. "Yes, you are right my dear, let's not keep him waiting." Said Richard, and started to walk to a doorway behind Maria, which led into the kitchen. "I'll go to into the kitchen, and call him, meantime you should get the present." "Okay honey, but first..." Said Maria, and after a little hesitation, she pulled Richard back, leaned close to him, and gave him an affectionate kiss. She broke the kiss after some seconds, and half smiled at her husband. Richard looked back at her, somewhat unsure, but smiling because of the gesture. "For what was it?" He asked in a low tone. Maria giggled. "Just to remind you how much I love you." She said, in hopes she could cast away all the worries her husband has. She hated to see him so tense. She knew only truly serious things could make her husband so worried, and this made her anxious too. She gave him a last smile, and walked away for the gift, leaving her smiling husband in the living room. Richard stood there for some seconds, then smiled even bigger. "Somehow, she always knows what to do... always..." He thought, and walked into the kitchen. "Shifty! Where is my little sergeant?" He asked, when he entered the kitchen. After some seconds, a little raccoon rushed in from the door which led to the hallway. He stopped in the middle of the kitchen and saluted with a big smile. Shifty had the marks of his father. Grey fur, black 'socks', 'gloves', and a 'mask'. The only difference was that the tip of his ears where black, and his fur color was a little bit darker than by his father. That must've been because of the marks of her mother. "I'm here daddy!" Chirped the little raccoon. "Good..." Richard saluted back to his son and laughed. "At ease!" He gave the order as he saw his son hasn't stopped saluting when he did. Richard laughed and sat down at the table. "Come here Shifty, sit beside your father." Shifty walked to the table, and jumped at the chair next his father. "You know what day is today?" "Sure, it's the 13th May, my birthday!" Answered Shifty and smiled big again. Richard couldn't hold it in, and smiled back at his son. "Yes it is. Your mother and I thought about a very special gift for you." "Really? What is it?" Asked Shifty curiously. Richard noticed her wife coming into the kitchen. "You'll see it in about 5 seconds." He said. "Here we have our birthday kid." Said Maria, while sitting down next to Shifty. "Are you ready for your present?" "Igen!" Said Shifty excited. His mother laughed and was quite proud she could teach his son her own native language so well. Maria looked at Richard, who nodded. "Happy birthday!" Said both of them, and Maria gave Shifty his present, packed in shiny, blue paper. Shifty liked the drawing on the packing paper, and watched to not tear it apart while opening. After pulling down the paper, he opened the box to reveal his present; A falcon shaped amulet. "Oooh..." He picked it out the box, and held it up to examine it from close. "wow... thank you, mom and dad!" He said happily, and hugged his mother and father. His parents hugged him back, both glad to see how much joy they could give their son. "The falcon, it represents ambition, victory, and inspiration..." Said Maria. "This amulet should protect you, and give you strenght when you need it the most." Added Richard. Shifty examinated the amulet, and right when he wanted to ask her mother to help him put it up, his fathers communicator started to alarm in the living room. "Not now..." Said Richard, his face turned dead serious within seconds. He asked his men not to disturb him today, whatever happens, except one thing. He knew what was coming. Richard stood up. He looked at Maria, and nodded slightly, then walked out the room. "Come Shifty, let's go up." Said Maria. She knew what was going on, too, and was worried, but tried to hide it from Shifty. At least he should enjoy his birthday without the pestereing feeling of anxiety. She took Shiftys hand as they walked up the stairs. Back in the living room, Richard got his communicator which was laying on the table. "What's wrong?" He asked. In the same second he could hear two shots, echoing from the entrance gates of the mansion. "Sir! Several hostile targets detected moving this way. We could hold them back for now... Sam, on the tree!" Another shot could be heard trough the communicator. "Corporal! How many targets, I want exact numbers!" Demanded Richard. His heart pumping faster and faster. "'Till now... four, but there come more and mo..." The signal died, only a light fizz could be heard. "Corporal!... Corporal!! ... **** it!" Richard cursed, as he threw the communicator on the table. In the second the device hit the table, the lights turned off. The attackers must have shut down the electricity trough the main controls, which where in a small cabin in the garden. Whoever they where, they knew what they were doing. Richard ran to the bookcases, which were build in the side of the room, and threw away some books to reveal a hidden safe. He entered the code, and took the pistol which was lying in there after opening the safe. Right after he closed it, he heard a noise behind him, which wasn't his wife or son, nor a guard... --- Shifty took his mothers hand, and felt she hold him a bit tighter than usual. "Mommy... what's wrong?" Asked Shifty slowly, as they walked up the stairs. Maria looked at him, and forced a smile on her face. "Don't worry, everything will be all right." She said, and turned left when they reached the top of the stairs. She led Shifty to a secret cabinet hidden inside the right wall. Right when Shifty wanted to ask what it was, and why her mother has led him there, Maria started to talk. "Shifty, you go in there and wait until me or your dad don't come to get you." She said, and gently controlled Shifty into the small, secret cabinet. She let Shifty go, but he quickly snapped back to her hand with both his little hands. "But i don't want to go in there! Why can't i stay with you?" He asked, and looked up at her mother. He could clearly feel things weren't all right. Maria looked down at him, and sighed sorrowful. "You can't, Shifty, please understand me..." She stopped for a second, as held back tears started to burn her throat. Maria swallowed hard, and tried to continue. "I'll come back for you as soon as possible, I promise." She whispered, and knelt down to hug him. She was about to embrace her loved son, when she could hear two shots echoing from far away. For a slight second, her instincts took over her emotions. She looked back over her shoulders, her ears standing stiff, trying to make out any suspicious sound. She only looked back when she felt Shifty squeezing her hand. "M-mommy..." Shifty said scared, and clung close to her mother. He sobbed as tears started to form in the corner of his eyes. Maria couldn't hold in hers, and hugged her son back as tears rolled down her cheek. "Don't worry Shifty, your father and I will for ever be with you... we will never leave you... "She whispered in his ears. Shifty wanted to ask why her mother was saying that, but the lights suddenly turned off, and her mother let him go. "Shifty, go in, fast!" She said as she pushed him in the cabinet, and quickly shut the secret rooms door. "Mommy!... Mommy!!!" Cried Shifty as he tried to open the door, but he couldn't, and her mother couldn't hear him anymore. Shifty was alone in the secret room, it was barely large enough for him, he had to crouch to not to hit his head. He couldn't see anything, and heard nothing, but himself crying silently. The words of her mother echoed in his mind. "... we will never leave you..." Shifty sat down in the dark room, and hugged his tail tight, pretending it would be his mothers warm body, and continued crying. Soon, he lost all his sense of time. After a hour or three, the door opened. Shifty quickly looked up in hopes it would be his mother smiling at him, his neck immediately send a small wave of pain from the stiffnes, but not his mother had stood there, nor his father, but a panda instead. He was in the middle of his 20s as Shifty could tell from hsi face. He wore some sort of of eastern robes with flame design. The panda panted easily. He didn't looked mean, but saddened instead. He looked down and smiled at Shifty. "Come my boy, we must go..." Said the panda, and lent his right hand to Shifty to help him up. "But... where is my mommy and daddy?" Asked Shifty, tears filling his eyes again. He saw the panda turning away for some seconds, and he would sworn he heard a sniff. After a few seconds the panda turned back, and stretched his hand to Shifty again. "My boy... your father send me... please... come with me. I will explain you everything." Said the panda. Shifty slowly took his hand, and let himself pulled up. He almost fell back to the floor, for his legs where shaking so hard. The panda noticed it, and decided it would be easier to carry him, so he picked him up. As he hold Shifty in his arms, he started to walk. Shifty couldn't tell for sure where he took him. "Will you bring me to mommy and daddy, mr panda?" Asked Shifty. He looked up at his carrier, and saw his eyes turning glassy. "Shifty, I promise to tell you everything in time..." He said, and hold Shifty a bit closer to himself. Shifty couldn't see anything now, since the long sleeves of the robe have blocked his sight. All he could see was the tired face of the panda, as he carried him away. It was dark in the mansion, Shifty felt very tired, and the warmth of the pandas body made him sleepy. He wondered how he could feel the warmth so much, since the robe wasn't close fitting at all. Like, it would have been magic. Tiredness closed his yes. He could hear the last words of the panda though, before he fell asleep. "My name is Leng, I am a close friend of your mother and father. They asked me to protect you if..." His voice suddenly died as tears choked him... and Shifty fell asleep. Pt. 2: Losses. A mysterious clan, which appeared with no warning, had terrorized Kessex City for too long. They smugled drugs and weapons, violated, then murdered citizen, and threatened many lives. The police only knew the clans name, SteelFang, and that it had approximately 5 members. All deadly assassins, some probably insane, some pure evil, but all doing what they want. To make the streets safe again, KCPD (short form of Kessex City Police Department) had tried all it's best to find this clan. Now for more than 2 months without any success. Kessex City is huge, the clan small, skillful, and incredebly dangerous. Kessex City, industry zone, docks 2006, the 25th June... "Hey Bruno, anything new?" Asked Shifty his partner trough his walkie-talkie; Bruno Gröning, a black german pointer, Shifty's mentor, and only friend beside Master Leng. They where together since Shifty started working for the KCPD. Bruno was very good at his job; finding clues was his speciality. Besides that, he was good at disabling traps, interrogation, and inflirtation. All the good stuff. With Shifty's small obsession with observing, together they where an unbeatable team. Some at the department were even so jealous at them, that they would have been happy if Bruno and Shifty died in a crossfire. Yeah, this was life for them; hard. And it wouldn't get easier today. Their mission was to find out something, anything, about the SteelFang clan. They searched for clues in the citys huge harbor, which was also the industrial part of the city. "Not really, Grünschnabel." Answered Bruno in his usual deep, cracking voice. Shifty sighed. "You know perfectly i can speak that language fluently, and i work since a half year with you, so don't call me a greenhorn!" Shifty could hear his mentor laughing trough the walkie-talkie. He sighed again. "It's sad though you haven't found anything." He said, and continued looking. He was on a large water tower, from where he could perfectly look trough most of this part of the city. "You are now at the warehouse A 64, when i'm right." "Wait, I have to check, these things are all the same... Ja, I'm now at the corner of it, and still nothing unusual." Said Bruno. "I'll try the wharehouses at the beachline, maybe there is something. You should change your position as well." "Understood. I see a larger building from here near the sea, perfect for my needs. I'll contact you when i'm there." Said Shifty into the walkie-talkie. "Oke." Sounded the short answer, and Shifty put his walkie-talkie into his bag, and headed for the building. He runned sly along some large pipes which connected all the warehouses, untill he reached his destination. He loved the feeling to move fast, sly, and unnoticed. He climbed the drainpipe up to the roof, looked around, and took out his walkie-talkie. "In place." "Gut, I am right now at the side of the A 57 warehouse." "Any notable sightings?" "No... wait. Some guy just walked into the warehouse." "Maybe just a work..." Started Shifty, but Bruno interrupted him. "I saw his weapon when the wind blew trough his jacket. Two cat-claws. Identical to the one that made the wounds on the last days victims. Our man here is a black panther with bleached hair." "I'm on my way." Said Shifty instinctly. "Don't let anyone spot you while you do your fancy tricks, we don't need any unnecessary attention." Sounded the order. "Sir, yes sir!" Said Shifty, put away the communicator, and climbed down from the roof in the same way as he climbed up. He was excited to have finally some news, his heart pumped faster with every feet he climbed down. He jumped down at the last 2 meters, and ran to the corner of the street which lead to the shoreline. The sight of the sea would have catched his attention for some minutes, if he wouldn't have been on a serious mission. "I'm at the edge of the mentioned warehouse, facing the sea. And you are...?" He asked. "At the corner too, but on the other, right side." Answered Bruno. "Did you notice any other persons?" "No." "Me neither." "They are just gone for breakfast... anyhow, any ideas, maybe a plan?" Asked Shifty a bit excited. "We must be very careful if this guy is truly a SteelFang. Recon would be good... can you climb up to the roof?" "Always." Said Shifty, and was already looking for some climbing opportunity. After some seconds he found what he was looking for. An old fire escape in form of a ladder. The only problem was that it was cut down at the half, 5 meters from the ground. "I found a way, a little bit tricky, but i can climb up." "Good, climb up, and look for a window or something like that, so we know what's going on in there." Told Bruno the orders. "But be careful!" "All right, i'm on my way." Said Shifty, and put his walkie-talkies away. He looked up, trying to find out how high the ladder truly was. He contemplated for some seconds, then drawed his hook swords which were attached to his back, to his belt. In one move, he linked the swords together, jumped up, and hung the upper sword into the ladder. He watched not to hold on to the sharp parts of the swords, and climbed up to the ladder. As he was on it, he reached back for the swords, and attached them back to his back, to the belt, and climbed up. As he looked around on the flat roof, he realized how big the building truly was. He noticed several big, build-in windows. Some where opened, some closed. He walked to the nearest and looked down. "Okay, i found a window, checking the interior." "Careful... what do you see?" Asked his mentor. Shifty bent down to be able to look trough the dirty window. The rising sun shun right in his eyes; he had to cover them to see anything. "A maze of crates. I can figure out where the entrance is, and what the way is trough this maze." Shifty walked to an other window, to see the other side of the building. It took him a little time to get to a window from where he could observe, since the sight was blocked by several of them with crates. "On the other side, i can see some elevated offices, which are connected with an elevated walkway. On the walkway..." Started Shifty but stopped, as he quickly ducked, and crouched some meters back. "Hm?" "On the walkway are 3 or 4 guards, armed." reported Shifty. "Armed? Those aren't workers then. Anything else?" "Under the offices, 5 hostages. 1 male 4 female. Their hands and feet are bound." "Mist." Cursed Bruno. "We recieved a report back at the station that 5 citizens were missing. 1 male and 4 female... this is the clan." "This!?" Said Shifty surprised. "Sir, we must report back to the central!" He slowly paniced. He knew it was their job to find the clan, but never dreamed they would be this 'lucky', and that they would find the clan so fast. "We can't. At the smallest alert they would kill the hostages without thinking twice. Remember what they had done the last times." Refused Bruno the idea. "But, we can't do it alone. We could explain everything befo..." A shot echoed trough the warehouse, out the window where Shifty stood. "What was that, Shifty?!" Shouted Bruno. Shifty ducked, crouched to the window and looked down. He didn't said anything, just stared down stunned. "Shifty!" Bruno was getting irrate; He knew Shifty had problems when facing true danger. That's why he gave him always the easy, and safe, parts of a mission, like reconaissance from a distance, or bringing personal messages back to the station. "Shifty!?" He asked again forcefully. Shifty snapped back to reality. "They... killed one of the hostages..." He said, almost in a whisper. "Great... that's it..." Said Bruno angrily. "All right greenhorn, listen carefully. I go in, and you follow me on the roof, watching my back. We stay in contact. Understood?" Shifty didn't answered. He was still shocked from what he has seen. "Unerstood??" Asked Bruno again, now with a rougher voice. "Sir, yes sir!" Answered Shifty after some seconds of hesitation. He then walked to the window from where he could see the entrance, the walkie-talkie still in his hand. He looked very closely for any sort of alarms or guards. "Entrance is clear." He saw as the door opened and shutted within 2 seconds, Bruno was in. "I'm getting too old for this. "Sighed Bruno, not knowing Shifty could hear him. This statement just made Shifty more nervous. "Moving further in, can you see me?" "Yes, sir, i see you." "Good, and you can stop with calling me 'sir', i'm not that old." Said Bruno. He knew Shifty called him so just ebcause he was nervous. He always done that. "Where should I go now? This warehouse is huge, and the crates aren't really helping either." "From you, the second way to the left... It's a long way forward, with many intersections... Be aware of guards in... in the sideways." Faltered Shifty the way. "Pull yourself together, greenhorn." Said Bruno, as he slowly moved forward. Shifty followed him with his eyes from the roof, and saw his mentor dragged his weapon, a MP7 A1 submachine gun. Bruno now changed to whispering, in hopes they won't notice him while he tried to hold the life in his partner. "Shifty, you have an amulet, don't you? Look at it, and think about what it means." Whispered Bruno. Shifty took the amulet in his other hand, and thought about the words his mother and father said to him back then. "The falcon, it represents ambition, victory, and inspiration..." Remembered Shifty the words of her mother. "This amulet should protect you, and give you strenght when you need it the most..." His fathers words gave him a little bit of confidence. Bruno moved carefully alongside of the crates. "You're a tough guy, just don't lose yourself... I reached an intersection from where I can't move forward. Left or right?" "Right." Said Shifty, closed his eyes in order to calm himself down, he took a deep breath, and slowly let out the air. After some minutes, and directions from Shifty, Bruno reached the last row of crates. "Sir, between you and the sight range of the guards is only that wall of crates to your left." Alarmed Shifty his mentor. "Hmm... where are you right now?" "Right next to the window above you, sir." "Good, here is the plan; We..." Suddenly, Shifty noticed a shadowy figure moving quickly to his mentor from behind the only wall he couldn't see clearly. "Sir! Behind you!" Bruno turned back, pointing his gun at the figure. It was the panther he saw entering the building. The panther revelaed the cat-claws on his hands, and charged at Bruno. Bruno shot once, and it hit his attacker. The panther stopped, just to look up to reveal his smirk. He wore a bullet-proof west. Bruno moved some steps backward, just to make an other mistake. He moved out of the wall of crates, revealing himself to the guards on the elevated walkway. The panther jumped now at Bruno, and, without hesitation, stabbed the old officer into the chest. Shiftys eyes shot open wide in disgust, as he looked how the panther pulled out his claws of his mentor, and just left him there as he collapsed. "No!!!" Shouted Shifty, and opened the window. Quickly, he send an alarmsignal to the central with one button on his communicator. "They will track this signal down, and send reinforcements, everything will be okay!" He thought, more to calm himself down. Now, Shifty pulled out a long rope out of his bag, and bound it strong to a pole near the window. Instinctly, he slided down, and reached the ground next to his mentor. He could hear shots; bullets hitting the crates as they missed him, while he dragged the body of his mentor behind the crates. His hands got bloody, as he laid his mentor carefully down. "Sir?? Sir!?" Shifty carefully laid his mentor against the crates. He saw how serious the flesh wound was. "Shifty... I don't have much time..." Started Bruno, but Shifty didn't wanted to hear such things. "No! reinforcements are on the way..." "There is one thing you should know..." Continued Bruno, ignoring Shiftys words, knowing he must tell him this. "They will bring a medic and you will be up in no t..." "Shifty! Gott verdammt noch mal, listen!" Said Bruno, and grabbed Shiftys larger belt, which was around his upper body serving as a holder for his important things. Bruno looked close in his eyes, to make sure his attention was completely on him. "Your Master, Leng, remember?" Bruno talked about the panda who saved Shifty on that horrific day. "Nobody told you, not even him. I know it too just because Leng told me once. He asked me not to say anything to you about it... but you have the right to know; Your parents..." Bruno turned away for a second to cough, then turned back. "They were assassinated by... by..." Bruno coughed again, now blood, but said the last words. "... by the SteelFangs." The last strenght left Brunos body. He let Shifty go. Slowly, he fell to the ground. Shiftys mouth opened wide. He looked into the lifeless eyes of his dead mentor. "It can't be..." He thought. Suddenly, he could hear the panther shouting to him from the other side of the crates. "Hey you, pooch! I saw you sliding down that rope. Don't make me chase you and come out... maybe we will let you live." Said the black panther, who seemed to be the leader of the clan. The other clan members laughed nasty after his words. Shifty swallowed hard. He looked a last time at his mentor, then moved to the side of the crate wall. "You really think i'm that stupid?" He shouted back, while taking off his bag. "You think you have honor, don't you?" Not knowing, Shifty hit a soft spot. "Idiot! Te SteelFang clan is the most honorable group on this god**** earth!" Shouted the panther. "We even show mercy, and take some of the 'underlings' with us to our paradise. After the death of the clan, in the afterlife, they will make excelent servants for us... well, all except the fool beside you." The others laughed shamelessly. "They are insane." Thought Shifty, and loaded his pistols, then placed his bag beside himself. "If you truly are honorable, then you will face me, alone..." He shouted. He wanted to say more, to draw the time until the reinforcements arrived, but his voice died in his tears. It was much for him, too much to take in at once. The panther laughed. "Why should i face you? You are weak, an underling..." Shiftys eyes burned from the tears and the anger, he had to close them. "You ******* killed my mother and father!!!" Shouted Shifty as loud as he could. His words echoued trough the warehouse several times. The panther thought for several seconds, then answered. "You are from the Powers family, right?" He asked. "I remember, 'cause your family was the first one we had to eleminiate completely. Usually we just take what we like... fine... You want a duel, I give you one. Not that you would stand a chance... men! Put down your weapons!" Shifty heard as metal hit metal. All the guards must have been standing on the elevated pathway. "You, pooch, come out and have your fight." Shouted the panther. Shifty slowly walked out after wiping away his tears. "Awww, is the pooch crying?" The guards laughed again. Shifty drawed his swords, and took up a defensive stance. He looked determined, ready to revenge his mentor, his mother and father. Ready to kill, or be killed. "At least your stance is correct, pooch." Said the panther with a smirk. With lightning speed, he then charged at Shifty, jumping at him in the last meters. Shifty was aware, and rolled to the left, evading the deadly claws. As he took up his stance again, he saw the panther turned and jumped again at blinding speed. Shifty now blocked the claws with his swords forming a cross, since he wasn't able to evade again. He could stop the claws from slashing trough his chest, but pushing them away was something very different, the panther was too strong, he would easily win this struggle. Shifty just noticed his hands where slippery from the blood; he couldn't hold out for long. The panther pushed Shifty slowly to the ground, forcing him to crouch. "You are weak, not strong enough, not even fast." He whispered to Shifty, leaning closer to him to see the fear in his eyes. "These eyes... I remember clearly, your father fought well... and your mother, in bed, too." added the panther with an evil grinn. The words pierced Shiftys mind, as he realized what he meant. "How... how DARE you!?" He screamed. Not caring about keeping up his defense, Shifty stabbed the panther in his leg with one of his hook swords sharp back-end. As he let down his guard, the panther could injure him with its claws at his chest. He didn't felt the wound from the massive dose of adrenaline pumping in him. The attack came unexpecte for the panther. He didn't thought his enemy would get so ferocious in less than 10 seconds. Shifty kicked the imbalanced panther away, hard, sending him flying into the crates. His leg almost broke in this one attack. "This was for my father!" shouted Shifty. The panther looked up, cross-eyed from the hit he got on the back of his head from the crate he crashed into. Shifty let his swords go, letting them fall to the ground, and drawed his pistols. "And this, for my mother!" He shouted, as he shot with both pistols to the spot where Bruno hit the panther in the west. The west couldn't hold out 3 shots at the same spot. The bullets bore trough the west, and the panthers lungs. Shifty didn't saw what happened next to his enemy; he turned back, and shot at the guards around him. Even with slippery hands, every shot hit, all the 4 guards fell... as Shiftys tears. This was the first time ge killed... On that day, Shifty took 5 lives, saved 4. He left the police, because he was too young to work alone, and no one wanted to take him as a partner. He had to go back to Master Leng. He got his revenge on the murderers of his parents, but acting only out of vengeance can easily lead one to the wrong path... Shifty left Kessex City after several months, in hopes to find better luck somewhere else. Pt. 3: Powers' powers Kessex City, Powers Mansion, around 7:00 AM 2007, the 13th May... A raccoon in his mid-teens gave a visit to the Powers Mansion. He walked slowly trough the large front garden. A good 2 minute walk from the entrance gates he needed to reach the mansion. He stopped when he could see the building. He looked up, saluted tiredly, and walked up the stairs to the front door. Many memories haunted Shifty in that minute. From his 10th birthday, along with the day in the harbors, to his worst experience in life; a broken heart. It was his birthday today, the 16th. On this day, he wanted to be somewhere where he could feel he was belonging to... with, or without anyone... Shifty opened the mansions entrance door. The creek echoed in the entrance hall for many seconds. He stepped in. He noticed everything was tidy, cleaned. He wrinkled his brows, not knowing he should be happy or worried about it. "Uhm... hello?" Said Shifty loud. He waited, but no answer came. "I guess i will be alone today, too." He shrugged, then walked through the hall, into the living room, and took off his two belts, put them on the coffee table, and threw himself on the couch. "Home sweet home..." He said with a melancholic mood, and closed his eyes. "Happy birthday to Shifty, happy birthday to me..." "Happy birthday to Shifty, happy birthday to you..." Said a voice behind him. He jumped up from the couch, grabbed his pistol, and aimed right at the persons head. "I'm happy to see you too." Said the old panda calmly, smiling. Shifty quickly put down the pistol and hugged the panda. "Master Leng!" He said happily. The panda hugged him back with a laugh. "Boy, you break my back!" "Oh, sorry." Shifty couldn't help but to smile as he let Leng go. He was very happy to see him. He finally wasn't alone. "No worries.... I am the one wo needs to excuse himself. I was in the garden, and I didn't know it was you. First I thought it was a thief... and your "mask" hasn't helped to prove the opposite." Said Master Leng and gently pointed at Shifty. Shifty laughed. "Can i ask what you are doing here... not that i don't want you here, sir! no!... i'm just curious." "Well... there is no better place in Kessex to meditate than here, in the only mansion in the forest. Besides, today is an important day, and I thought you would come home... seems like I was right." Shifty replied with an even bigger smile. "My boy, I have to give you something." Said Master Leng, and took out a letter out of his pocket. "Here." He gave it to him. Shifty saw that it was an old letter, probably 10 years old. It was sealed with blue wax, with the familys 'P' letter on it. He looked up at Master Leng. "This letter is from your parents. They asked me to give it to you when you are old enough." Said Master Leng. Shifty re-thought the last words "... old enough." Master Leng continued. "They asked me because they wanted this letter to reach you at all cost, and they weren't sure they could give it to you personally..." Shifty looked down for a minute, the thought about his parents still made his heart beat low. "From my parents? But what's it about?" Asked Shifty. He now felt the importance of the letter, and didn't wanted to just rush the opening. His Master seemed to make a sad face, or just Shiftys own mind fooled him. "That, you have to find out yourself." "But... you know about it?" Asked Shifty, still hesitating. Master Leng nodded. Shifty now turned his attention to the letter. He took a deep breath, and opened it, watching not to break the wax family emblem. In the letter was a paper. He recognized his fathers writing. His stomach made sommersaults, so excited he was, as he started to read. "Dear son, Your Mother and I wish you a happy 16th Birthday! I hope we will be able to celebrate this wonderful day together, and you won't have to read this letter at all..." Shifty sighed at this point. "... my dear son, there is something you should be aware of. Your Mother and I think it is the best to tell you on your 16th birthday, we think you will be mature enough... my, my, where to start... I'll just listen to your mother, she can explain things better than me... well, you should know about one of our ancestors. Gabriel Powers, he lived 1279 years ago, when only might and magic has dominated in this world. He was a strong sorcerer, driven only by his hunger for more magical power. He even gave up his mortal life, for being able to study further, and in the end, to become a lich. After he gave up a part of his soul, the power in him started to consume his body, untill it fully took controll over him. After that, he destroyed towns, took many lives. Untill a brave warrior could stop him, and send the remains of his soul into the afterlife. Some older books tell the remains of his soul is still on this world, since it is immortal... you may now ask yourself why I tell you all this... even in these days, don't underrate the magic. It still exists. It is just incredebly rare. Because, not the person choses to wield magic. The magic chooses the lucky, or unlucky one. Even when the person shows the signs of magical powers in him or herself, it still needs something to evolve on... this something is an event in life. It may sound complicated, but is very simple. When someone schows magical powers in him or herself, then this power can develop into any of the following magical schools powers: Pyromancy, Hydromancy, Aeromancy, Geomancy and Necromancy. The first serious event that affects the person around his 15-16 year determines which power will evolve in him or her... I think you can now think what the whole point is. Master Leng himself is a magician. He told us about the signs in you... remember Gabriel Powers? He was the only magician in the Powers family, now beside you... my son, your Mother next to me, and I wish you, really, a happy birthday, and be very aware... With love, Maria Kovacs and Richard Powers" Shifty read the whole letter again, and only then understood what was written. He slowly looked up to Master Leng, hoping he would tell him it wasn't real. "Sir?" Asked Shifty, with the only word what got in his mind in this serious moment. "My boy, you are blessed and cursed, with powers not many have." Said the old panda." I know, because I have such powers too." He held up his right hand, and suddenly a small flame started to burn in his hand, lighting the room with an unnatural light. He was a pyromancer. Shifty couldn't believe it. He always thought magic doesn't exists, that it is a myth, fantasy. But there stood Leng right in front of him, with fire in his hand that seemed to burn forever. "But... but..." He faltered, trying to find an explanation. "Shifty, please listen carefully. I studied about the magical powers and their evolving for 3 years after I got to know about my own powers..." Lengs look got glassy as he tried to explain with the best words he could. "... I found out by others' experiences, that one of the 4 elemental powers will evolve in someone, who is somewhat connected with one of them. I mean, for example, you will get pyromantic powers, if you encounter fire many times. Phisically, like a fire or flame, and mentally, like love, or strong, controlled emotions... hydromantic powers will evolve if the person knows how to keep him or herself calm. If he or she is intelligent and understanding. If this person knows how to hide his or her own feelings..." Master Leng stopped for some seconds to formulate what he was about to say. "... geomantic powers you will gain when you feel you are highly connected with the nature, when you have nerves of steel, courage, and a healthy body and soul. Aeromancy is something I don't know much about. From what I've heard, you will gain the powers of air when you're light hearted, and always cheerful with others you know..." He stopped again for some seconds. "And the last, necromancy. This school is a mistery even to me. All I know is that you have to bear a little bit from everything what I've told you before for this power to evolve. But there is one more factor for this I'm not sure about... but what I'm sure is, that this is the only art of magic that is able to consume the bearer." Master Leng looked at Shifty, as he stood there stunned, looking at him, taking in his every word. "After I told your parents about the signs of the powers in you, and after they found out the existence of a wicked sorcerer called Gabriel Powers, who was a member of your family, your parents were so afraid you would step in the footsteps of him, that they gave you another name. This name is Shifty, the reason why they gave you this name is unsure to me... What I want to say is, be very careful whit whatever you will do from now on." Shifty hasn't answered anything. Master Leng extinguished the fire with just simply shaking his hand a little bit, and then hugged Shifty to comfort him. Shifty was happy about this gesture, but he couldn't stop thinking about the reason why he is so sad and melancholic in general, and the 5th school of magic, necromancy... "...there is something more..." Added Master Leng." ...your father, he wanted me to tell you; your full name is Gabriel "Shifty" Powers..." That's it, thank you very much for reading... tell me what you think, i'm always open to a good critique. |

Finally, a well-developed story, let alone a trilogy. It may be short, but all of the details are poured out from every sentence I read. Puzzling, when I found at the very end that his name is that of the sorceror's. Probably that's all I'll get to know for the moment, heh. Good job here. It's all I have to say. |

(May not have all the answers, just to let those who do ask me stuff, know, heh.) Will work for the sake of working. | |

Hehe, yeah. This trilogy is only for explaining Shiftys background. The first part explains how he lost his parents, and how he got his amulet. The second explains his revenge on the assassins, and how he experienced the feeling of serious danger. And the 3th tells you why he has evolving magical powers. I don't like to just add these kind of things to my fursona, so i wanted to explain them in a story... which turned into a small trilogy. Anyhow, thank you very much for reading! ^^ |
