Not even attempting to update to this one, as I already know it'll screw up my homebrew. Still, nice to see Nintendo using the SD feature they put in. |

For Homebrewers: This update will block Twlight Hack Beta 2 and new installs of the Homebrew channel to the Wii memory. |

Good to know. Just rejected the update. I'm curious though...is the update that came with Black Knight harmful to homebrewers in any way?? I haven't noticed anything but I'd like some confirmation if possible since black knight itself wouldn't even boot via gecko OS. |

Wait, does that mean I can now save a Wiiware game on my SD card & play it at a friends house, even though they don't have it? |

Well, there's no point for Nintendo to make the SD cards be able to copy the the Wiiware games on there |

So in other words, what could've been a nice update ends up being purely for saving space so you can spend MORE money!! :D I really don't get why they even added an SD slot in the first place. |

They originally put the SD feature in order to allow the photo channel to ahppen and for back up of data on SD cards. Keep in mind that inital batch of Wii's did not come with the ability to save data on SD cards, that was added on a launch day update. |

The SD card is pretty useless IMO. All you use it for is pics and now VC games. You cant even save games like SSBB and Mario Kart on it. |

I was actually talking to a friend about this....nintendo hypes up brawl to the point where it pretty much becomes the defining game for the wii, it gets released, and what happens?? It has issues running on most consoles to the point where they had to create a special help page on their site for brawl issues and you can't even back up your save data. Nintendo has outlawed save backing/sharing with online modes to the point where the addition of online features seems more like punishment or torture than a nice feature. Homebrew is pretty much the ONLY use SD cards have anymore, and nintendo is even outlawing that to the point where i have to do some serious googling every time a periodic firmware update comes in just to make sure my wii won't blow up. |

For homebrewers (like Silver, I have a soft-modded Wii too with the Homebrew channel): Its safe just as long as you use the "4.0 updater" from Waninkoko, it takes out the blocks that Nintendo added to this firmware to prevent homebrew software form launching. I used it and I have 4.0 and my Homebrew channel and emulators I have on the Homebrew channel work perfectly =3. But take note: You need to install cIOS_60 before or after installing 4.0 with this installer or anything you installed with a WAD installer (such as menu launchable emulators) won't launch off the SD card. Anyway, I'm VERY glad they finally introduced launching items from the SD card, the Wii has been needing this for a VERY long time, as its pretty easy to fill up the internal storage of the Wii with VC and WiiWare games ^^;. I already moved allot of the big-sized channels to the SD card and still have a ton of space left on the 2GB SD Card in my Wii =3. |
