CASEEEEH. THE TITLE IS CONTRADICTING ITSELF.

Yes. I know that. :/ Now shut up lol.

I'm giving another shot at this fanfic thing... The protognist of my story (however he is a villian) is much more calculating and has specific interests as opposed to the average type of antagonist who wants to go beyond attaining great power or destroying everything. I won't give away who's the driving force behind the darkness, but I'm sure it will be somewhat obvious after a certain point. This person will not be a sudden threat who was made known past the halfway point. This villain will be introduced and known in early chapters, all the better to hate him (or love him, if you're a villain admirer ;D) in the long run. Believe me, I'm going to throw a curve ball here, I have a habit of doing that to my watchers.

Quick reminder - This is a short fanfiction based on my original character -- Shade SouthernCross. For a long time now, I've wanted to write an actual back-story to the characters I randomly create on a whim - and old Shade seems to be the best candidate to start with. I've worked very hard on developing him (His personality, abilities, and backstory.) Don't judge him just because he looks like a typical depressed teenager stereotype. I assure you, he's alot different than from what you expect him to be.

Oh yeah, and this here...

This will serve as a break in the storyline, usually a transition to another scene or place.

Now, lets begin.

Silent Chaos

Chapter 1

Being alone is... Pretty much something I've been use to. I never had any friends, or any one to give me any serious support during my early childhood. I had my mother, my father had perished during the war a few years ago and she was having trouble maintaining her jobs. Each day I came home from school she was sleeping on the couch with dark marks under her eyes. I would eat what ever she had pre-made on the table, complete my homework and take a long sleep myself.

Those days are over now.

Another security guard's body hit the cleanly waxed floor with a heavy thud. Shade stood over the unconcious body with a bored expression. These annoyances were hardly pushovers. He turned and then walked to the display case in Metro City's National Museum. The glass case contained a rare artifact called the Purity Heart, a solid crystal gem in the shape of, as expected, a heart no larger than a baseball. Surely, he could make a quick buck over selling it to his... "Friends".

Shade pulled his fist back and slugged the case, and the glass shattered. No alarm sound, he had already disarmed the whole system long before entering the premisis. He'd perfer not to have more pesky guards on his tail while getting the job done.

Taking the crystal, he slipped it into his sweater pocket for safe keeping. Just before he could devise what he would do next, a small group of soldiers had managed to catch up with him. They had brought what looked liked a large mech. He let out a small groan in disgust, just great. More stalling.

"Surrender now and drop all your weapons! Or else!" One of the soldiers commanded. Shade guessed he was a lieutenant.

"Or else what?" He grinned darkly, seeing that there was clearly fear hinted in the back of the soldier's eyes.

"Or else we'll open fire!"

Shade ignored the threat and dashed towards them, in a flash, the shadows in his sweater sleeves lept out and engulfed his hands to form sharp claws. Just as the men had their fingers on the triggers, Shade had already torn them of their weapons. They would have begun to run at this point, if he had not knocked most of them unconcious with a furious barrage of punches. The one soldier who was still concious inside the mech activated the machine, preparing himself to engage Shade.

"This is Gear Hound Mark One," The soldier called over the radio, "Engaging the enemy now. Subject confirmed as dangerous. Requesting immediate backup."

But before he could even begin to fire one of his 55mm cannons, the cockpit was already up in flames. The shadows surrounding his hands had faded, Shade smirked malevolently at the helpless human, standing up from a crouched position. The battle had not even begun, yet he had already managed to severly damage the machine. Satisfied, Shade watched as the mech began to spark, explode, and finally see the charred metal clank as it hit the ground.

The cellphone in his left pocket began to vibrate and beep, he took it out and flipped it open. "Talk." He answered.

"Yo Shade, you got the goods yet?" A low husky voice asked. "I bet I coulda done it much faster than you."

"Ahah. You know me Dien. Of course I do." He replied with a smirk, "And you had better stop with that cocky attitude of yours. Its getting on my nerves." He snapped.

"Well sorr-ee then. God you can be such a whiner." Dien replied, "By the way I can see the police cars roaring down from here. You might wanna book it soon."

Shade walked out the front door of the museum, a siren starting to blare in the background. "Yeah, yeah, I see em'. Look, I'll meet up with you and the guys later. I've got buisness to take care of."

"If the cops don't catch you first slowpoke! Ha ha!"

Before Shade could say something, the line went dead. He groaned and slipped his phone back into his sweater pocket and ran down the street, heading straight downtown. If he could sell this thing for enough money, he might just be able to ice out a few depts he owed.

Silent Chaos

Chapter 2

After running down the now car crash filled streets of downtown Metro City, the prison hold was straight ahead. In the heat of the disorder that he had caused, Shade took no time in taking advantage of the confusion surrounding the guards, snuffing out their pathetic lives one by one with his shadowy abilities and traditional combat. They fell like flies before him, the once lovely stone floors became stained crimson by their blood. It mattered not to him if they were in his way or how they died, so long as they were picked off and short of a threat. He had always thought the best way was to remove threats without mercy, without tears, and thus, the lives of a mere few dozen to hundred people meant nothing.

Shade quickly made made his way down the cell chambers, where they hold the cities most devious, disgusting, and most hated villians of the enire region. The vile criminals were brooding along with their cellmates, until a pair of guard's bodies rolled down the staircase infront of them, their bodies impaled and bloody.

"What the bloody hell...?" One of the captives exclaimed, just as a black and navy blue hedgehog casually walked towards him.

"Hello, Dune. I see you're still in prison." Shade greeted with a smug grin.

"Shady? What in blazes are you doin' here?" The Bear grabbed the cellbars, glaring into Shade's unflinching pale blue eyes.

The grizzly bear was big and tough, and though not quite as talkative as the others, he was still quite a force to be reckoned with. Dune was a serious character who took pride in what he did, and with some cunning, it made him rather intresting.

However, Dune hated Shade with all of his heart, he was a better tactition, combatant, and had a criminal streak greater than he could ever hope to achieve. Shade had only been arrested twice in his time, and both those times he had managed to break out of prison on his own accord. Yet... He couldn't help but to feel a little bit of respect for the scrawny hedgehog boy.

"I came here to break you out, of course. What else? Stand aside."

Dune did as he told and backed to the corner of his damp cell. Shade pulled his hand back, the shadows encased his arm completely. In a flash, the bars were sliced to nothing more but poles as they clanked when they hit the concrete floor. Dune steped out from his cell, and glared at the hedgehog again.

"I need your assistance." Shade said dryly.

Dune crossed his arms, "Even if you did just bust me out this stinkhole, why should I?"

Shade smirked, "I knew you wanted something," He reached into his sweater pocket, pulling out the Purity Heart, "Once we're done, I'll let you have this. A little trincket, really."

"The Purity Heart?!" Dune exclaimed, "They just put that display three days ago! You dirty little rat, I'm impressed..."

"Yeah, I took it about two hours before I came here..." He replied while tossing the gem in his hand. "So. You with me or not?"

Shade held out his left hand. Dune looked at it catiously, then at the crystal in his other hand. Surely, he could make a bundle just by selling it. It wouldn't hurt too much helping a rival criminal, and think of what else he could gain just by taking this opertunity...

"Deal."

The two shook hands, although Shade was slightly shaken by the strength of the Bears arm. Just as they finished however, more police officers arrived along with some soldiers. The things that the pair had done to those men that stood in her way were…well, there are too many ways to describe their short-lived attempts to stop them.

The two felons proceeded to make their way out of Metro City, inorder to escape the pursuing millitary.
