Yes, I realize that the title is totally cliché and overused, but it's something, and I think it will work later on. While I'm not in rehearsal, practicing, or doing homework, I'll try to remember to work on this, but I make no guarantees as to its update frequency. Also, I tend to write in short chapters. Oh well, at least I write. =P Other than that, make a cup of tea and enjoy. ALONE by Dylan Larkins (tmad40blue) ************** I. Malfunction Total darkness. It had become quite common lately, since the sun had been blocked out by toxic clouds, whose rains came down like the plague and were hated and feared everywhere. The entirity of Mobius was slowly dying. Little by little cities and towns were wiped out by one terrible thing or another. Every day the news broadcasters came out with something about how "...the village was brutally destroyed by a hydrogen bomb! No survivors were found..." Or the clouds came and emptied their lethal contents on thousands of helpless Mobians, the poison eventually becoming so prevalent in their bodies that they died from the inside out. But tonight, the dark was disrupted by a grand menagerie of light: the beginnings of what would become the Mobian seat of power years later. This seat of power, however, was not a benign one. At its heart was pure evil; the seat of Doctor Ivo Robotnik. Robotnik had always been very bright for his age as a child, and his abnormal IQ of 300 had let him to question the good ways of the society that he lived in. His parents were Puritans and he hated them with a passion. After years of secret plotting and preparing he released his attack upon the unsuspecting empire city of Mobotropolis. Only a handful of small children survived the attack because of their determined parents, who knew of the only remaining shelter in the city. The light came from hundreds of factories, which were run by worker robots whose eyes saw but did not see, their senses both alert and deadened. They were alive but dead. They had eyes but did not see. The night vision scanners in these eyes did not require light, but since Robotnik wanted to use as much power possible, he flooded the factories with light, flooded them until the light had pushed back the darkness into every possible corner and strangled and drowned it until it vanished into thin air. There were also the guard robots, who patrolled the streets of former Mobotropolis, seeking anything that lived and giving it a strong dose of morphine, which circulated in their body and poisoned everything it touched until the poison took the life away. One of these guard robots was on its nightly patrol when it sensed something abnormal. [/Volumes/HD/Applications/Scanner:SWAT]% Life form detected. Yellow Alert. II. Survivors In selected sections underground there were a few survivors. Some of these survivors were refugees, only there because they believed Mobius would return to its former state. Others were part of a loosely organized resistance unit. One of the figures spoke up in a raspy, weary voice that resembled a middle-school-aged boy. "Knuckles. It was YOUR turn to gather food and water last night. Did you follow through?" The echidna looked up at the one who had spoken. He appeared tired and worn. "Yes, I put it in storage for later," he said. The figure sank back to its former position. A soft light suddenly lit up the face – it turned out to be Tails, sitting with a laptop in a dark, bare-bones lab. However, this was not the Tails that many used to see happily running around and talking to everyone he could find about his latest invention. This was a much more defeated Tails. Daylight and sleep were now alien things – his 24 hour job was assuring the continued security of the four-room hideout that he and several dozen others now lived in. "Were the any problems on your search?" There was a long pause. "...Knuckles, what happened? I need to know if something went wrong." The figure's voice had taken on a tone of worry. "Yes..." It was the only thing Knuckles said. "I was forced to engage in battle with a security robot. I looked at its hard drive and data after it was over though to see if any information was leaked out. It caught me on its scanner..." He paused for a long time before speaking again. "Tails... If I didn't do it I wouldn't have been able to get food to everyone who lives here, everyone who has survived this long." Tails leaned forward and his face was lit up by the dim light in the middle of the chamber. He looked even more worried than he had been before. There was a drawn out silence, and Tails put his face in his hands. "Sonic... Give us a sign, anything." Edited by tmad40blue, Oct 10 2010, 03:20 PM.

Hooray, a somewhat long chapter! III. Prisoner '...where am I...' This was all that came into the mind of the creature that had been captured by the SWAT bots. It attempted to open its eyes but closed them in pain; the blinding light in the room it was being held in was too much for its partially sedated brain to process. Instead, the creature tried to move its arms, which were curiously free. Next its legs - no good, they were locked up tight. Without opening its eyes, it gingerly felt the leg restraints with its bruised, bloody hands - and received a large electric shock, which threw it into unconsciousness again. "Heh... He's a smart one, that's for sure." A figure behind a thick glass window looked on at the creature in evil delight. The figure leaned forward into the bright light emanating from the room on the other side of the window and it was revealed to be Dr. Ivo Robotnik himself, watching the painful struggles of his new prisoner. He scratched his rather large, red-orange mustache and turned his head slightly. "Turn on camera 687-B," he said unnecessarily loudly. A small robot at a computer console on the other side of the room as the doctor sprung to life, pressing a few buttons and then putting a small remote-control unit down on the counter in front of Robotnik. He picked up this unit and looked down at its miniature screen, zooming and panning with the small controls, until he got a good view of his subject. The doctor pressed another button and a flash went off in the next room - somehow even brighter than the already extreme lighting - and he looked at a screen to his left for a closer look at his new prize. He gasped in delight - he had captured a Mobian wolf! This was one of the rarest Mobian subspecies - he had only presumed that he had captured a fox before. He used the controls on the console in front of him to look even more closely - the unconscious boy was about sixteen years of age, with purple and green fur colouring - although he wasn't completely sure because most of the fur was blood-stained. Robotnik already had several sinister courses of action floating around in his mind - but then something snapped. Sonic had once been turned into a werewolf of sorts... so why not do the same to this boy, who would obviously be too weak to resist the mind corruption? It was a done deal. Robotnik shouted for his robot servants to make the necessary preparations and sat back, thinking of all the things he could do with his new werewolf "sidekick". A robot glided up to the doctor and beeped. "P-R-E-P-A-R-A-T-I-O-N-S C-O-M-P-L-E-T-E. C-O-M-M-E-N-C-E P-R-O-C-E-D-U-R-E-?" Robotnik put on his signature evil smile. "...Yes." ************** "Hmmhmm, the old doc never learns," a dark figure chuckled, silently gliding down from the air vent in which it resided. It slowly crept to another window looking into the bright room of torture. Rouge was proud of herself. Robotnik always had at least one security flaw for her to exploit, and with multiple disarming gadgets, and the air ducts completely unguarded, all she had to do to enter the base was wait in the woods a mile away, and sneak in late at night. She had intended to stay put until one of the higher-ups gave her orders as to what to do next, but now she felt the need to act on her own. She heard him. He was speaking in his usual insane, malicious, and genius manner – something about transformations and werewolves – occult nonsense as far as she was concerned. All the same, it appeared he was about to experiment on someone, and she found herself unable to let a life be lost in front of her. It was against orders, but she believed she could pull it off. She backed against the wall. She wished she had shadows to slink into, but the blinding light about the base rendered it impossible. 'Perhaps the doctor has a fear of the dark?' she thought, hiding under a ladder at the edge of the experimentation room, close to where the doctor’s soon-to-be slave was. But before she could take another step, all she could hear was the sound of machines clanging around, and the resulting long scream. Edited by tmad40blue, Oct 26 2010, 07:16 PM.
