Yeah I pretty much agree, I don't think we'll be around when it happens. Maybe it won't happen until the 24th century? :P |

Plus the buildings would have to be rebuilt for the future. Think if the power goes out. The cars need to stay as they are, only get improvements to be more environmental friendly, depend on different types of fuel including solar energy, etc. Then we can think about self driving. Not to mention that self driving itself could be GPS-dependant. I laughed at that Gumball episode where the father was driving like crazy with his GPS device, it pretty much referrences the GPS accidents. It has to be updated every now and then, so Toyota must look for a workaround. |

The GPS technology will gradually improve over time. Give it some more time and the GPS will be better than it is now. GPS dependancy is scary now, but it won't be in 50-70 years from now. |

Reminds me of this one book I read that involves a big radar that sent a signal to your car to give it a path to follow. |

"Mirth is like a flash of lightning, that breaks through a gloom of clouds, and glitters for a moment; cheerfulness keeps up a kind of daylight in the mind, and fills it with a steady and perpetual serenity." Joseph Addison Yes, I do love to roleplay. I don't like any more than two people involved, and I'm more inclined to furry/sci-fi. PM or IM me if interested. | |

As I've said before, Google has tested self-driving cars for a few years now, and have experienced only one accident during that time, in which the car itself wasn't the problem. It was someone else driving their own car rear ending the google vehicle. They already do a fantastic job of keeping safety, so I see no negatives on this part of the idea. I also think we're selling GPSs short, as they already do a flawless job if you have some of the newer models. Obviously using an outdated GPS from the last decade will provide problems even with updated maps. (Map updates are done automatically in cars that have them pre-installed.) |

I just don't want things to come to a point where I'd be forced to buy one against my will (i.e. manual cars gradually disappear completely from public markets). |

I'm sure you won't need to worry about that, especially after I see these cars not really being openly available and cheap enough for the average consumer for probably a decade. |
