Pony up, Tails fans!

I just wanted to see how many people play those 'Free to play' games that are often about city building and similar themes, and let you have the option of advancing progress for real money.

I really enjoy Clash of Clans, despite having wasted fifty dollars on it. I had previous experiences with We Rule, an obscure game a few years ago that was based on the same principle.

If anybody does have Clash of Clans, search for kewlkat234* on Game Center or Tails Skypatrol in the clan search menu. I'm offering elder status to those who are from this forum.

Just a note, though. Game Center lets people see each other's real name, not just the nickname. Keep that in mind if you add me on it. :T5:

Also, could you ever imagine Sega adopting this kind of gameplay style? Would it be fun? What could it possibly entail?

My presence here isn't that common, but I still consider Tails to be one of my favourite video game characters. Somewhere between the Undertale cast and TF2's cast.
PM me and I'll get back to you with up-to-date contact details if you're into playing some TF2, Splatoon 2, Civ 5, Terraria, Minecraft, Puyo Puyo Tetris, or many other PC / Wii U / Switch games.

My lil reward for being nice or something.

Several game companies now are doing freenium games because they tend to bring in more revenue over time. We Rule is what really started this format and it has been adapted across many genres of games. While it allows parts of games to be free, I perfer games that you just buy and everything is unlocked from the start, or you can subscribe to.

I know Air Rivals is a pretty good Freemium game. It's an aircraft-based game.

For me it really depends. For example, I'm a huge fan of Rock Band, and over the past 5 years I've thrown over $500 into the game's DLC for songs to play. It sounds like a lot, but overall it's worth it, as I keep the songs and charts forever and can play them when I want. However, games that you can essentially "beat" without the use of real money I don't find the need for. (You can't "beat" Rock Band. XD) If I had to choose between forking over real money or just having patience and determination to get better at a game, I'd choose the latter.

So are you talking about phone games now? Because if I talked about a freemium game... It has to be Team Fortress 2 mainly, the game that I got premium status in last Christmas. In the past it was also Travian, but its so stressful with "GET ACTIF!! OR GET KICKED AND GET ATTACKED BY YAR OWN ALLIANCE ALL DAI FOR THIS!", also attacking in the game sure had a taste especially if you rid the other team of troopers.

Least played here, although a SEGA title: Spiral Knights.

The thing is that TF2 is just add-on purchases, not really a freemium model. But it is pretty close.

Augie, you played We Rule? How much did you spend? I begged my parents to load it with thirty dollars. Lets say my castle was pretty epic. A year of playing just got old, you know.

Rock Band content is indeed worth it, as you do keep it forever. I still need to get that game...

Air Rivals... I'll have to see about that one, sounds good.

Didn't really understand this part. However the hat community in game is pretty evil. You can also part in raffles to win hats (and I was the lucky hat winner... TWICE).

A freemium model is defined as a free game that has a goal. An overall goal which is delayed exponentially by building or upgrade times. These times can be completed instantly with some sort of item which are available for free to an extent (or require effort to get for free; such as advert visiting or game objectives). You can also pay for this item in great bulk in varying amounts.

This makes the game free to play slowly, or an insane price to progress quickly.

And yes, Hats are very expensive and in huge availability. There are so many that only a lottery winner would be able to buy every single one and 'finish' TF2.

This web pages that a friend of mine made a while ago explains Air Rivals in a nutshell. It gives you a synopsis of all the different types of planes and the ups and downs of each. Worth a read.

I spent $0 in We Rule, played it the free way. Sadly the game is closing at the end of the month.

I also liked Tiny Monsters and Tiny Castle for mobile. Both are great time wasters and you spend money if you are impatient and lazy XD

I play Spiral Knights quite frequently. Had a kind friend paypal me a bit of money for an elevator pass to ignore the energy cost of elevators to delve into the Clockworks and to do depths for missions. However since I no longer have a bank account, I can't make my PayPal verified and I am near my spending limit for this account. I did find out I had a special costume for buying Sonic CD when I came back to it after a long break from playing the game. I got Metal Sonic costume armor to wear!
Just another Sonic the Hedgehog fan. One who has only had the privilege of playing the old sidescrolling trinity for Genesis. Also has Spinball. Currently playing Sonic CD on Steam. Sure I like MLP but it doesn't mean we can't get along. Right?
