GIMP vs. Photoshop

Who is Pooka?

Two well known names in the world of image editing: GIMP and Photoshop, face each other off!

For a start, both almost have the same tools and equipment and the same potential. GIMP is free while Photoshop isn't.

However, my father knows a lot more about Photoshop. He didn't know that GIMP exists until I told him about the program.

And I use both, with Photoshop being the outdated CS2. There are some stuff in GIMP that I can't do for some reason (such as installing new fonts in 2.8.2) and stuff in Photoshop that I'd rather do in GIMP. Saving in .psd saves me all the time.

What's your prefered image editing suite?

GIMP is just too slow. Makes using it a chore!

Pony up, Tails fans!

I like using Photoshop much more. GIMP is just a chore with transparent backgrounds in particular.
A Tails fan, brony and gamer all in one!

Babs Seed is my favourite pony - she has an inactive blog here: Ask Babs Seed
My presence here isn't that common, but I still consider Tails to be one of my favourite video game characters. Somewhere between the Undertale cast and TF2's cast.
PM me and I'll get back to you with up-to-date contact details if you're into playing some TF2, Splatoon 2, Civ 5, Terraria, Minecraft, Puyo Puyo Tetris, or many other PC / Wii U / Switch games.

My lil reward for being nice or something.

I've gotten the chance to try both, and after a while I can honestly say that I think Photoshop is the better program.

But, we all have different needs and in an unpredictable and recovering economy we definitely have different levels of wealth. Those who don't have the fortune to afford Photoshop can appreciate GIMP just as much. Sure, it has its flaws but if one will be willing to overlook them they will love what it has to present to them.

Dancing at the moment, please leave a message

Well, if Photoshop wasn't better, they'd never make a profit, right?

Just learned about guides in GIMP, that'll help. I think that once I know the shortcuts and how to use it properly, it'll be plenty quick enough. It crashed on me the other day before I saved quite a bit of work, but that's my fault.

I'm much too cheap to pay $600 when there's a free program running around.

Now a fully Retired Programmer

I use both Gimp has a plugin database to add in more stuff to make it better but Photoshop CS4 Extended beats it by a mile which is better - I wish Adobe wasn't so greedy on their prices a lot of people are needing Cs4 or the newest piece of software to fix up their photos and make them more better, if they lowered the prices a bit then people will buy it.

Gimp on the other hand is my choice to when I need to use a palette like adding in a Sega Genesis Palette I may need to use Photoshop has Color swatches but I don't know how to add in newer colors to it like a palette of colors let's say the NES Colors!

Photoshop all the way. I had it from 2005-2007, but then it stopped working when I upgraded my OS (I have Mac OS X, in case you may be wondering). It wasn't compatible with it. That wasn't cool, so I had to settle for GIMP. GIMP is decent, but yeah... it's too slow like FrankT said. Before I got GIMP, I got SeaShore. SeaShore is slightly better than GIMP.

.......why am I pink?

I always use Paint.NET. It's like a super MS Paint program that gives you the basic functions and supports layering. Definitely my image editor of choice.

Yes, I do love to roleplay. I don't like any more than two people involved, and I'm more inclined to furry/sci-fi. PM or IM me if interested.
