Different OS performance... on the same computer?

I have Windows XP (SP3) and Windows 7 (SP1) on my own computer, and I love them both... However...:

-Sonic 4 Episode II* runs blazing fast on XP, but got loads of loading times. On 7, the load times differ and so the speed. But generally, on 7, if I made Sonic move left, then he'd move left one second after I tell him to.
-Plants vs. Zombies likes to occasionally do a lag spike on XP. However it runs smooth on Windows 7.
-Sonic Adventure DX suffers less from FPS slowdown on XP than on 7.
-Garry's Mod/Team Fortress 2 takes a little while to alt tab out of it on 7, but takes years to do so on XP.
-Why is my Google Chrome slower on 7 than on XP, in terms of text typing, emoticons, and everything?

I don't know what's up with my machine. Its a little weird that two OSes on the same computer are acting different.

Copied from GTAForums:
OS: Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 32-bit/Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit
Processor: Intel® Celeron (352) ® D CPU 3.20GHz
Ram: 2048MBs
Motherboard: FOXCONN G41MD
Graphics Card: Intel® G41 Express Chipset Rev. 3
Audio Card: High Definition Audio Device

Help...? Should I reinstall my Windows 7 or something?

*Sonic 4 Episode II runs like intended when I alt tab out of it, at good speed. When I focus on Sonic 4's window, it goes to that ultimate slowdown. Weird, because I played it on Windows 7 a few days ago with Tails-san.

You're packing a Celeron? In CPU terms that should have died out with the dinosaurs, unless I'm confusing it with another processor... it might be time to upgrade that to at least an i3, perferably an i5. And you could also do with a minimum of 4GB RAM, maybe even 8 if you're migrating to 7.

For future-proofing's sake you may wish to stick with 7. More programs are written with it in mind, and also you might find that as XP is now discontinued, you won't see any more updates that'll allow your machine to keep pace with newer OS - for example, have fun upgrading to DX11.

With regards to two OS acting at different speeds, it's completely normal. You've described a lot of differing speeds that are quite atypical to a cross-OS user. Looking at your spec, it seems perfectly optimised for an older OS but rather lightweight when dealing with some of 7's more advanced features, but it's great to see that someone's sticking with older gear in this day and age.

I used to be a massive fan of Vista, and then one day I had no choice but to upgrade to 7 - HDD failure. The difference was night and day. I'm now a massive fan of 7, and went on to spend a small fortune upgrading the rest of the computer to take advantage of it.

What I'm trying to get to is this: with an older spec, your older OS is fine. If you were to upgrade to a faster computer(even with just cheap parts) 7 will be being powered by better parts, and if you were to run them side-by-side you'll see 7 be faster in a lot more areas.

I hope this helps :)

I just played Sonic 4 Ep II with Pooka as well. Let me just say the lag was TERRIBLE. Literally maybe a frame every 5 seconds I blame my internet connection though, and here's my specs:

OS: Windows 8 64-bit
CPU: Intel i7 quad core 3.2 GHz
RAM: 12 GB
Video: ATI Mobile Radeon 6990M

Yes, I do love to roleplay. I don't like any more than two people involved, and I'm more inclined to furry/sci-fi. PM or IM me if interested.

The little CPU of mine is evil, sir. It overheats so quickly, the fan needs to be cleaned every now and then, etc. I'm not sure how I got this computer in the first place, I was told to that it will run stuff like GTA IV. Turns out it won't run Skyrim either, and its the reason why I am reluctant to the idea of Sonic Generations.

So with better parts, I'm gonna be able to experience Windows 7 as a faster system? Great. RAM is not a thing to me though, I'd pick 3 or 4 over my two just in case.

I'm just keeping Windows XP because this computer was more suited to Windows XP when I was told to fix it. However I found my Windows 7 (32-Bit) Enterprise disc and said to myself, why not keep Windows XP?

At least I have the two bestest Windows systems, no matter how old or discounted XP is. There will be a time when Windows 7 is history as well. Windows Blue could be the death of the desktop, and I don't wanna touch Windows 8. So being able to touch older software and newer software at the same time, without either bragging about compatibility on either system is better.

Thanks for the point out, though. I'm waiting till I sell this machine and get something that should let me enjoy gaming forever, and download as many TV shows as I want. There is a massive bit of GBs taken by FOP, and there's still a satire programme that will join it. Not to mention I still download things, and am running out of space. 500GBs approx HDD.

As for TheRedFox, I blame my computer. Playing with Tails-san meant that I get to play at my normal speed, which is a little about FPS drops, and Tails-san was able to navigate through the big bottomless pit in Oil Desert Act 1. Meanwhile, with TheRedFox, I dunno what's up! I play at frames instead, and we kept abusing SEGA's plothole of Tails flying and the Copter Combo cancel to survive the pit.

Let me tell you, that part was challenging enough, now try playing it at super slow delayed speeds. Luckily we survived it the first time.

But anyway, I'm going off topic, so I'll shut up now.

Well I'm at last thinking of ditching my computer and getting to the better! But first...

1. Intel Core i7 isn't planned for me.
2. 8GBs of RAM seems too much for me.
3. My HDD should be 1TB.

I'm looking for optimal game performance, yet not too expensive. The ability to run newer games at great performance while not spending too much to it.

Examples includes: Minecraft, Team Fortress 2, Sonic Generations - These should run at the highest settings when I get this new computer. I just need the specs.

Plus Skyrim and ASRT.

Any ideas on the specs?
