So I was browsing Sonic Retro the other day and found this hack in someone's signature. I got curious so I clicked on said signature and read Retro's wiki article on it. I downloaded it and...this is one sweet hack. The goal is basically like Generations in a sense. All the levels are black and white and the music is changed also. Your goal is to explore the levels trying to find the monitors that restores everything back to normal. The goal is unlocked once one of the special monitors is found. But you can't access the special stage until the whole level is restored + you have the usual 50 Rings at the end. I've been playing this for a while, and it's a ton of fun. I'd encourage everyone to try it, it really breathes some new life into a game that's almost 25 years old. [link removed] You will need a Genesis/MegaDrive emulator in order to play...but I'm pretty sure most people here have one of those already. Do let me know what you think of it! Ohh okay, I see. At first I didn't know what you meant by like Generations, but I see it now reading the description on the Wiki. Admittedly enough, my first reaction upon seeing the article cover photo (the black and white title screen) was "can't I do this with a filter?". Retro is always a veritable factory of interesting ideas when it comes to these ROM hacks. The ones that allow you to play as other characters, or the ones that introduce original new level concepts (hint: not [x] Hill) are the ones that tend to capture my attention the most. On a somewhat related note, I was around there the other day checking out Sonic's Edusoft. An interesting read, and game. |

I hate to be the rain on this parade, but technically this topic violates Paragraph 3.1 (Prohibited Content) of ZetaBoard's ToU. I don't want to be the bad guy and completely axe this topic but I dunno how strictly that should be followed, whether it's just to prevent piracy or if it goes as far as prohibiting discussion of fan-made hacks. I went ahead and removed the link, and am going to let the rest of the staff decide on what to do next. I apologize. Just doin' my duty. |

I think the problem here is the H word. I Wonder if it would be OK if the word mod was used instead? |

Thing is, it's still technically a "hack," if you're talking ROMs and such. Then again, it's unlikely anyone would care, but hey, I don't know how strictly it's enforced. |

Oh OK I just have heard that steam is OK with mods, but if you say hack its a problem. I just wish TTFF had its own server like Sonic retro and Sonic Stadium. |

Why the hell does this forum follow Zetaboard's Terms of Use so strictly? I've never seen any forum so damn backwards but this one. If you ask me, THAT is what's holding you back from being more active and getting more members. |

I personally don't care as I doubt anything would happen if we did happen to break the rules. I thought that this was more of a mod though so whatever. And idk Lhana |

All I'm saying is that this board is taking Zetaboard's "Terms of Use" too seriously. They're guidelines, meant to be used as a guide not followed 1:1. Do you really think out of all the millions of forums out there, that ZB's staff is gonna come after us if we don't follow them? They don't care. And neither should we. You guys have a lot to learn about running a forum, it seems. |

You are absolutely correct in your assumption that we are too strict in this regard. Please know that we take these types of comments into serious consideration, and are actively discussing this issue to make our community more enjoyable for everyone. The enforcement of Zetaboards' ToS and ToU is a point of which much debate has been had amongst our staff for a long while now, and my personal stance on the issue matches your own almost to a tee. Its good that this thread, and this reaction to the issue, exists. Now, I'll be able to cite this when I continue to make my case for support of the ROM hacking, emulation, and modding community, as I believe its presence would be beneficial to us. Our primary concern with the ToS and ToU has been a fear of board deletion in the case of a violation. I feel that, on the whole, we have failed to realize just how serious the offense would have to be for Zathyus to take notice of it; its an ongoing paranoia which I feel stifles our potential for broadening the scope of what we can openly discuss here, and in turn, discourages new registrations while also losing the interest of already existing ones. Even if we were to touch upon something egregious enough to warrant board termination, it is unlikely that we would not first receive a warning of it, unless the content in question was objectionable enough to the point of common sense forbidding it (child pornography, selling of drugs, terrorist threats, etc). Unfortunately, the staff as a whole must come to an agreeance on this before anything can be done, but I hear your concerns, and I understand them. Please lend us your patience. |
