I just recently realized this, and I HAD to share it with someone. :P Everything takes place on a SINGLE timeline. Proof? Mephiles remembers Shadow from ten years ago. Elise mistakes Sonic for Silver because of the events that took place ten years ago. Elise has the Chaos Emerald because of Silver ten years ago. The Scepter of Darkness contains Mephiles because of what Shadow did ten years ago. This means that this game takes place on a singular timeline, as these are PURELY major events to the game. Now that you know that the game's story is on a single timeline, consider this. You know how Sonic and Elise went back to blow out the flames before the king of Soleanna could try to revive him? Believe it or not, this did NOT erase the game from the timeline. Here's the best way to describe it. Sonic and Elise went back in time to blow out the flames. As the game takes place in a single timeline, this would mean that the king of Soleanna should NOT have been able to do this. Why? The flames were not there! So, with the flames not being present, this would mean that Shadow would never be able to seal Mephiles because he doesn't exist, this would successfully make sure that Silver doesn't exist in the form he does, and so on. That would erase this game from the timeline of the series... right? NOPE. Remember how the game takes place on a single timeline? Consider this. Sonic and Elise went back in time to blow out the flames of Solaris, effectively preventing the king of Soleanna from reviving him. Though, now that the flames are gone, consider HOW they disappeared. Who blew it out? Sonic and Elise. On the other hand, you know HOW they were able to put out the flames? Let me cycle you through it. The king of Soleanna splits Solaris into two, both effectively combining again and destroying all of time and space. Sonic and Elise are present, so when they defeat Solaris, they go back to the point when the flames were at rest to put it out. This would keep the king of Soleanna from reviving the flames, as the flames are gone. On the other hand, the flames are gone because Sonic and Elise went back in time to put out the flames, but the only way they were able to do this was because Solaris tried to destroy the world... which was only possible because the king of Soleanna successfully revived the flames... but the flames never existed because Sonic and Elise went back in time to put it out, so the king of Soleanna could never have had the ability to revive it... but the only reason that the flames never existed was because Sonic and Elise went back in time to put it out... which is only possible if the king of Soleanna REVIVED THE FLAMES OF DISASTER... WHICH NEVER EXISTED IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!! Could somebody PLEASE explain this to me!?!?!?!?!? |

I have a simple answer. The writers were on crack. (insert Sonic/Elise kiss scene here) But if you require an in-universe explanation, I suppose that Mephiles and Iblis fusing into Solaris messed up time so much that the very rules on which it exists change. I mean, Crisis City exists in Sonic Generations, obviously without any thought given to a canonical explanation, but it makes a relative amount of sense to people who require explanation if you just assume that the Time Eater messed everything up so much that it brought Crisis City back from whatever timeline purgatory it was sent to after Solaris was erased from existence. Toward the end of '06, Eggman says something about Solaris existing in the past, present and future. When Sonic and friends killed Solaris, time itself probably freaked out so much that it just reset everything back to the point in time when Solaris was in its' most primative form. I don't think it's something that was meant to be given much thought, and all that's of course just speculation, but I think it's safe to assume tye case is something like that. If you want a REAL plothole from that trainwreck of a plot, think about the blue Elise's blue Chaos Emerald. Happy nightmares! |

[rainbow]Welcome[/rainbow] to my rather barren signature, primarily featuring my TTFF 2014 awards. Anyway, I don't really even know what I'm typing right now. Ramble, ramble, ramble. <--That sums up most of my posts. I'm comically inactive though. I'm trying to learn Japanese, but I won't make myself enough of a fool to flaunt upon this forum what little (and most likely flawed) Japanese I do know. I'm also a comically inexperienced writer. In fact, I shouldn't even call myself that, but I'm taking a class for it, so damn it, I'll label myself a writer if I wish. Just kidding, just kidding, I'm not that self-righteous. In fact, I try not to label myself as much of anything. Labels are like chains-- Wait, I forgot for a minute that I'm writing a freaking signature. How do I even end this? Things were easier when I could just slap a bunch of anime GIFs into the signature box and call it a day. Oh! I have something interesting to say! Apparently my vision is slightly worse in my left eye than in my right. I'm also right handed. In fact, I've never met someone who told me they're left handed. Actually, I don't meet many people at all. Ramble, ramble, ramble. Wait, is anyone still reading? If so, congratulations for reading tiny text. My sister actually has extremely poor eyesight. Apparently it's genetic, but strangely my eyesight is actually pretty great. Blah blah blah. ![]() Marquee's gone now. But My signature yet lives! It's just that it now looks like a GIF filled apartment complex.

Aww, Frank beat me to a Doctor Who comment...oh, well. When time travel becomes an extensive part of a plot (especially when time travel is not a normal part of a series), you can throw logic out the window (or you can try really hard to explain how it works, but not all writers can be expected to do it if they don't care). '06 is known for having a convoluted plot anyway. Sonic needs to stay away from being overly complex. Sonic Adventure did fine with having intertwining plot lines, but when you get things really convoluted (...i.e. Shadow), it just gets confusing (perhaps it's because I didn't play the spin-off, but it has taken me forever to understand all the stuff with Shadow in SA2 (as it was never clearly explained) and wasn't clear to me as a kid whether he in Heroes was the real one). Plus, simplicity gives a series a "classic" feel, IMO. Edited by Scientific Tails, Aug 25 2015, 01:17 AM.
