In an very much unexpected announcement, SEGA today announced that the Wii U exclusive Sonic Lost World has been ported to PC and will release on Steam on Nov 2nd for $30. The game which was originally being made for PC, sends Sonic to the lost hex world, where he has to face off with the deadly 6 on Parkour style levels.

The game requires Windows 7 or later with a Core i5 processor or better, and 3GB RAM. The recommended graphics card is NVIDIA GTX 460 or better.

Preorders are open now at http://store.steampowered.com/app/329440/, all preorders made include All Stars Racing Transformed for free.

While I was a mild fan of Lost World, I might be waiting for a Steam sale on this before purchasing it. $30 is a little steep for me since I have the game on the Wii U and getting it on PC for me is just for convenience sake. =P

I'm skeptical about it selling well. I was not really a fan of Sonic Lost World. I know there's a lot of other people who were not into it either.

I oddly enough only just started playing the 3DS version.

As I mentioned on Skype, I'm wary of the price point. I mean I'm certainly interested, I've never played this one before, but... for what it's worth, the word of mouth doesn't seem to add up to a value of $30. All I ever hear about it is how average it is, and so on. If it hits $15, I'll dig. Even if the game turns out to be a mess, I have faith that the modding community can more than inject enough extra worth to warrant that $15.

No.

I'm not 'renting' a game like Sonic Lost World at the price of a full game. No, I don't even like the thought of renting the game to begin with just because it happened to land on the Forced Down Your Throat Rental Service For PC instead of landing on SEGA's website for example, or GOG.com. The same rental service that puts DRM on the games I'm supposed to own, and then being told by many that I'm just a special snowflake for wanting to truly 'own' my games and that said rental service is used by millions, etc, etc, etc.

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding SEGA here. Why just an inferior digital PC port? Where are the X1 and PS4 ports? If they ported the game to PC, surely they are not bound by the exclusivity deal with Nintendo. So why just a PC port with no other console ports whatsoever? So far, I've been waiting AGES for SEGA to make a presence on either the X1 and/or PS4. Just show that they're also developing for the new consoles, no more. But then here comes this.

The game actually was originally supposed to be on PC until Nintendo got that exclusivity period. So what you will see is the games intentioned original vision.

SEGA did say that more older games will come to Steam in the future.

I see. I still see no reason to shaft the X1 and PS4 for a port after the Wii U exclusivity deal ended, and only releasing this game on PC, when its very possible to give the X1 and PS4 the Wii U treatment of a port. Heh... looks like I'll be shafted from their games as they continue going deep down into the rental service. I tried to be a honest customer, but I don't see any incentive to remain as so.

As far as I know, there's very little reason to invest last gen games to be ported to the current gen. Down the line, yes it's a good business move (pretty much like how Gamecube games can be bought on the Wii U) but right now would probably end up being a loss for SEGA. Heck, this PC port already seems iffy to me and might end up being a bad move. I could very well be proven wrong though. XD

So the WiiU just became last gen now?

Pretty sure the WiiU is an 8th gen console, just like the X1, just like the PS4. And I'm pretty sure they'll capitalize on more profits if they were to port to X1 and PS4 instead of porting only to the Rental Service At Full Price. But ugh, what is SEGA thinking these days?

I heard the Wii U version is better and with more content. I don't see a point in buying in the PC version. If you liked the game a lot, go for it and buy it. That price though... eh, it's not that great.

Will be buying this, but won't be pre-ordering. Hopefully the mods for this fix the issues like removing the need for a run button and better level design. Hopefully Steam has a release sale for it. Also achievements would be neat too.

My mistake. I thought you had said for them to port it to 360 and PS3. Porting it to Xbox One and PS4 would be a great idea honestly.

I'm still in conflict about getting a Steam account. I want to play the games that come out only on steam, but I don't want to have to get Steam itself.

I know in the UK they sold stuff like Sonic Generations on and actual disc when one could only get it on Steam in the U.S. Will the same rule apply to this game? I would love to see more Sonic PC games again in general.

Also, Pooka, the reason I think they have the DRM to prevent pirates from doing piraty things. But it is inconvenient to all the honest people who just want a simple back-up.

All retail games for PC made by SEGA require Steam anyways, as that's their primary DRM system now, so you can't avoid it.
