Prologue Heavy rain pounded through the loose leaves of willow trees, soaking into the ground and turning it to mush. Their low hanging branches thrashed wildly in the wind with sharp ear-splitting snaps, and a full moon glowed faintly through the clouds, turning the pools of water below a milky white. The marshland glowed eerily as the stormed raged on. A large, thick-set tom cat emerged into a muddy clearing from between two bushes, shaking himself violently to rid himself of the water that soaked his long fur. “Timberfur!” he called above the noise of the storm, yellow eyes glinting in the night as he peered around. The dark silhouettes of many cats dashed around the log and twig-infested clearing, going from den to den and urging other cats out into the night. A sudden flash of lightening illuminated a tabby cat standing atop a large log, perched with his claws dug into the wood to stop himself from slipping off. Next to him was a lithe she-cat, staring all around her with wide, frightened eyes. Her belly was swollen unusually large with the weight of kits. “I’m here, Mudstar!” the tabby called, pressing his side against the she-cat, helping to stabilize her as she slowly made her way down the slanted tree trunk. “Fawnspots was frightened and froze up here. I’ve never seen the clan so terrified.” “We need to evacuate the camp and get the clan to higher ground,” Mudstar ordered. “Bring everyone to the thicket. The land is raised on a small hill there and the thick brambles will protect us from the wind. Make sure the kits and elders are seen to first!”. Edited by Tyke, Oct 10 2015, 02:05 AM.
