CMC Conference Room, Commonwealth City Nobura was becoming increasingly stressed; the recent foreign policy debacle which had led to Jones' resignation had made her unpopular with the politicians while his reputation with the military couldn't be higher - this contrast was causing tensions between the two groups with both jockeying for power in their own way. The Commonwealth wasn't a superstate and the CMC didn't exist to manage a singular Commonwealth military, but rather to coordinate military efforts - it was an administrative and not leadership role, as the politicians were all to eager to remind her. Now though she'd had a proposal placed on his desk from the office of his immediate subordinate in the SAC, Commodore Lukacz, which suggested something which should have been put in place to begin with, and would have been if the military were in charge; a singular unified defence screen to protect all Commonwealth countries from long range attack and orbital bombardment. The idea was hardly revolutionary and the technology did exist; Arcadia tanks, walkers and fliers had incorporated shielding systems and defence screens for centuries and maintaining a shield around a space craft the size of a large city was hardly any more difficult than maintaining one around, well, a large city on the ground. The issue was, as always, funding and politics. Would the CXC approve the funding and would the different representatives agree to let the CMC oversee the creation of all the sites that would need to be built? Any rational person would agree that for a system intended to protect the whole Commonwealth to work effectively it would need to be managed by the Commonwealth, but undoubtedly politics would get in the way. Such a screen would be expensive, and most of the member states already had defensive facilities and contingencies in place; the Unibearians had their bunkers, Arcadia had its missile defence batteries and interceptors... really the success of the proposal was anything but certain. So Nobura was here in the CMC Conference Room, due to meet the representatives from each different Commonwealth Country at any moment to begin the discussions. |

Airatania's senior-most representative on the CMC, Admiral Thomas Maddox, a senior official in the Airatanian Special Operations Command (ASOC), entered the room and took a seat at the designated location. As Maddox opened his file on the proposed defense grid, he quickly ran through he thoughts in his head. Maddox himself felt as though the proposal was a great idea, one that he would approve in a heartbeat if it were up to him. But it wasn't. His superiors were concerned with what they were always concerned about -- money. How much would this cost? Where would the money come from? Maddox nodded courteously to Grand Admiral Nobura, and spoke. "Greetings, Grand Admiral. I must say, this proposal is quite ingenious. I quite look forward to discussing it with yourself and the other members." |

Drok Vanir had just arrived in Commonwealth city when he was notified of a certain meeting with the CMC about a proposal. He was a very high ranking officer in the Unibearian Special Forces department. More specifically, he gave orders to the famed Unibearian Shock Troops... the Czar guards. He entered the Conference room in his White Unibearian uniform with all his medals and honours. He took off his hat and brushed his fur before taking a seat and grabbing his file. He looked at it and knew immediately that if ever there was a war with SUN, such defences would be worth all the money the Unibearian government could throw at the project to get it installed. They already had the thousands of bunkers to supplement this. "Good evening, I'm Field-Marshal Vanir, Commander of the Unibearian shock Army. And I must say that this proposal is very.. Hmm.. Promising to say the least and I hope the other members see the potential and the need for such a proposal to pass." He finally admitted. |
