Hi everyone My name is Adrian and I live in North Lincs. After nearly 20 years of married life, I've decided to attempt an ambition of mine, to build a car. This is partly to do with my wife and son not being interested in boats, so have 3 to get rid of then to start project. Initially, I thought that I should like to build a Morgan Style Cycle car, but again Mrs not to keen on three wheeller. Now, a week or so ago, My father contacted me to say he had found my Locust plans in the loft and did I want them. I bought these from JC Auto Patterns, Sheffield more years ago than I care to rememeber! I was about to throw them out thinking that no one would be building these anymore. A look thru one of the Kit car mags and I came accross BWE sportscars ad and this prompted a web search, hence this post! I have many questions!!! Are there any options other than the BWE chasis? Are escort and cortina axels becoming hard to find? Is it possible to construct a chasis based on the Locost design independant suspension? Has any body done this or addapted a Locust chasis to IRS? Does anyone know of secondhand chasis which might be available? As you can see, I'm realy trying to find out where to start and whether this project is possible. I'm quite happy with woodworking and mechanical skills and my wifes uncle has been I the motor engineering business all his life and is an extremely competant welder. Any info or advice would be VERY much appreciated, as I would realy like to be able to do this. Many thanks and hope to hear from you :D Adie Carter Oh, almost forgot. My son saw the Grasshopper details on the site, so looks like I may be building one of these as well! Don't suppose anyone has any of these plans for sale? |

Hi, You really need to speak to Bev Evans of BWE. I believe they should be able to supply the plans etc for the grasshopper and chassis for the Locust and Hornet. I don't read the kit car mags so you never know they may even have an IRS option! See BB_Wales posts on this messageboard for pictures of modified chassis using an IRS rear this is a picture from his first set of posts. Posted Image |

BWE demonstrated an IRS version of the Locust chassis a few years back, I presume it is in production now. See http://www.locust.org.uk/about/brochures/b...rra_chassis.htm |

Hi Adrian, Don't know if any of this will help but I bought a !Part Built! locust a few years ago. Didn't get very far with it (lack of time money and build experience)and so I bought myself a Hornet. I have however kept some of the parts: I have a chassis(stored outside so may be too rusty to use!) escort axle, 5spd gearbox, cortina uprights, calipers(all unfortunately stored behind my shed so they would need lots of work to be useable.) I also have a 1300 xflow engine and 4speed box (condition unknown) shortened propshaft, steering rack, and other bits including nosecone and wings (not from a locust, but may be adaptable?) if you (or anyone else) would be interested in any of this I will try to get some pics of the items when the weather gets better. By the way I live in Teesside. Regards Nigel |
