Advice On Buying A Secondhand Locust; General

Hi,

This is my first post on this forum.

I have been reading details on owners cars and also some of the build histories.

There is a neat looking locust for sale on ebay - item 330243953198 - looks recently refurbished. Spec looks good with double wishbone front end and five link rear end, based on an escort 1300.

Is there anything I need to check specifically related to the locust design if I go and view the car?

Also, this particular car reports it is only suitable for someone 5'11" tall. Is it possible to increase leg room in any way on the locust e.g. lengthen footwell and move pedal box forward, or possibly move seat further back? I am 6'2" and need a fair amount of leg room.

I would be grateful for any advice you can give me.

Regards,

John

Mechanically they are very simple cars and most things are visible so easy to check.

The main thing to look at is the workmanship. Does it look like it was put together by someone who knew what they were doing?

Another thing is has it been correctly registered as a Locust.

I'm 6ft and fit in. The problem you get is the further you move the pedals down the footwell the closer together they have to be as the footwell narrows. You can modify it though see http://www.locust.org.uk/knowlegebase/happ.../happy_feet.htm

Jon,

Thanks very much for your advice.

The link to the footwell widening article was particularly useful.

Regards,

John
