So, this is the build... This is how i got the car minus the wheels as it was on a Trolley before. My plan is to completely strip it down to nothing and rebuild it as i think it was started back in 1992 and then left for 20 years!

The wiring was in a complete mess made up of scotch locks and some very strange block connectors and relays from the stone age. That has now all been ripped out and im in the process of making a new loom with new parts.

thats as far i have got so far due to time and the fact it only turned up a few days ago. i will keep this updated as i go :)

Looks to be a sound project with most of the major stuff there, it looks like it will keep you busy for a while though.

I've never seen a nose cone brace like that before.

Good luck with the rebuild

Thanks Peter, yes it seems most of the bits are there.... im still finding out alot about these cars and getting one through the IVA. it appears i will have to swop the lights for new as new regulations make these very much out of date. also may need to modify front arches as they dont cover enough of the wheel although i haven't got out my ruler yet to check this. Obviously alot more problems will arrise such as all the bolt being imperial  lol! i have a large snap on box full of kit and yet i have no imperial spanners :P

i will update as i go :) i would love to hear anyones idea's or things they would do differently if building from scratch as this will be stripped down to nothing and rebuilt (i just dont trust any of the work done on it so far).

Hi nick.

Mine wasn,t quite as complete as yours.I to stripped right down to the bare chassis.Replaced all the bushes with polly bushes when rebuilding and replaced all bolts.Regarging the iva down load the manual and read it,, there are sections that do not apply to your build.I built mine to the basic construction to pass the test regs,ie no windscreen etc.Regarding the front wings it won,t pass with them regarding wheel coverage,i had to fit cycle wings, you can even fail on really basic things like front indicators to low or high.If you look on here there is a list which mine failed on as an example to look out for when building. If you use the crossflow engine which is in mine, depending on year it is only a visual test.I'll try and answer any questions, but READ the manual and build it for the basic iva test.

well that answers a few questions to start with... i have got the IVA manual printed off - put in a folder and organised with lovely little coloured dividers (yes i know im a bit of a geek).

i will have a look through your list and it will give me stuff to look out for! much appreciated :) when you say you fit cycle wings did you remove the standard wings? or just fit the cycle wings while you put it through the IVA

any idea on what year that would be Ratchet? i was always gonna ditch that column as it is beyond a decent repair. also what pedal box are you all using? a custom one? the previous owner seems to have botched one together but it needs to go in the bin really.....

Update: Body now removed revealing a chassis that doesn't seem to be in bad condition at all hopefully no welding required :D

Don't know what year it's off, don't suppose it makes much differance. So long as it's not a tiltable one.Pedal box came with the car, think it's part of the kit/part available.I'll see if i have a decent photo of it and mail it to ya.

Thanks Ratchet, if you could drop me over that photo it would be greay. very few sierra columns out there but ebay has a couple. if i go with the sierra column will it fit onto the Cortina Rack i have?

Update: everything off Chassis, just engine and box remain as im waiting to get an engine stand. i will probably rip some of the bits off the engine to make a bit lighter to lift (alternator, manifolds, gearbox etc) as im not going to go to the hastle of borrowing an engine crane for 20 seconds work.

The steering rack you have will poss be a escort mk2 rack as this was used.To join the column to the rack you can get a linkrod from great british sportcars which i used. The only prob i had was mounting the column to the bulk head.I finally used a column mount off a landrover of all things,I'll send u a pic of that as well.
