Well after much thought on which way to proceed with the build we finally decided the best way to move forward was to go backwads and scrap the body.
The main reasons for this decision are
The footwell is far too narrow for safety
Not enough room for seats
Bulkhead flexing when brakes applied
Last but not least it weighs a ton
So after 3 days of cutting and welding we have made quite good progress as you can see in the pictures

Hi

Looking good, lots of graft gone in there, if you look in the members build area I think you will see someone who has gone down the same route.

Regards

Bob

Thank you Bob,still lots more graft to go.
The welding so far has been done with TIG and once we get the basic frame built we will transport the chassis minus all major components down to work and MIG all the hard to get at bits before shotblasting and painting.

Cheers we seriously contemplated going down the same route i:e keeping the wooden side panels with a steel inner frame but thought this way was a better option for us.

Hope to make a bit more progress this weekend with the bulkheads and tunnel

Little bit more added, the radiator turned into a right fiasco ended up moving it four times before managing to clear the nose cone and steering shaft.

Looking good. It's coming along at a fair rate as Ratchet says the bugbear of most Sevens is the small tank. I only get about 135 miles from mine.

If you're going to carry a spare I would also think about a reinforcing plate on the rear that you can bolt a carrier to.

How much lighter do you recon it will turn out?

We had not thought of doing but it is certainly worth considering

Well the old body took two of us to lift on and off
All the material we have purchased weighes a total of 38kg and we still have 15 metres of the box section unused plus all the offcuts,so based on this it will be approx a quarter of the original body weight

After another fun filled weekend the exhaust manifold is completed (nightmare)
The radiator is fully mounted, nose cone trimmed and mounted.
A start has been made on the steering column
Seats are brand new MK purchased on Ebay for a bargain price of £180
