Who's putting their car away for the winter? I tax my Locust for 6th months and SORN it at the end of September. What preparations do you make for the storage period over the winter and do you turn it over on a regular basis or just leave it? |

I use my Locust in the summer and my Mini in the winter. I'll be swapping over this Friday. My MOT is due in September so I prep it for the MOT and give it a full service before putting it away for the winter at the end of September. I don't tend to touch it for the winter period as it isn't taxed so I can't drive it. |

Hi I inflate my tyres over the standard, to prevent a flat spot, change oil and filters, and put battery on charge. The car is also cleaned and waxed then covered. :) Digger |

I was thinking about getting another set of axle stands and lifting it of the ground but I think I'll over inflate the tyres that way I can start it up and move it backwards and forwards now and again. I've heard that fuel can go off if left a long time any views? How long would it take? |

I have never experienced any problems with fuel. The winter time seems simply (and luckily) not long enough to cause problems. Only if water runs into the tank by accident you will face problems because it settles at the bottom of the tank causing rust. I always fill up the tank as far as possible to prevent it from rust. My Hornet also gets overinflated tyres and I push it back and forth a few feet every week or so. If you put the car on axle stands it is adviseable to put the stands under the axles and not under the chassis rails. Otherwise the suspension parts get in a position that is not typical for them and rubber bushes may be "overloaded" Imho it is not a good idea to start the engine without driving the car. This will cause more problems than benefits (e.g. condensation water) as it simply doesn't get into driving conditions ... I always drive the car into the garage and immediately put an oily rag into the end of the exhaust pipe. In addition I take the spark plugs out, pour a little oil into the cylinders and crank the engine by hand a few turns, that's it ... My hood and doors get a nice, warm place in the house and the car is covered with a few large pieces of breathable chloth, e.g. old duvet covers. HTH ... |

Hi, I keep mine on the road and any chance of a drive and I will take it, went out on Saturday for a quick drive up to the Horseshoe Pass and a cuppa at the Ponderosa. My car lives outside and this year I bought a new cover for it...I know I am spoiling it and I have actually built a car port but not specifically for the car though....it will be the ideal place for me to build my next project which will be unveiled at Stoneleigh. Hi, Yes I am getting there, just got to be careful what I do, managed to tear a muscle on one of the scars on Sunday so ended up in A&E yet again. But when you have the roads on your doorstep you have to use them, you know it makes sense. Bob |

Had my last drive for the year yesterday and it was blooming cold. I've put it away with over inflated tyres, handbrake off and the clutch pedal wedge in. One of my friends with a 1600E Cortina said he had started doing that after his clutch stuck on one winter. |
