Bear headed down to his rooms with a little of something close to relief, glad that the boss had apparently found a way to dump the problem and let them all get on with something more important. It wasn't just that he was wet and weary, that he needed a drink and maybe some food but also that he really couldn't be arsed to pretend that he cared too much about the opinion of the locals for much longer.

In his opinion the lot of them had asked for a whole lot worse than they had gotten, and not just by hitting people in custody, not just by arrestign the wrong people.

the flat truth was that it was a bloody scandal that a situation like that was continuing to be allowed to happen within the Federation, that the neglect of the refugees was as good as an outright crime that the world should have found a way to divert the resources to deal with, or at the very least should have applied more thoroughly to the Federation for help with.

But that was all now history and instead there were real matters to attend to, like seeing his family settled in and getting cleaned up before he saw the engineering bay of this ship.

When he arrived at his quarters the family were already a good bit settled, the familiar pictures already going up onto the wall alongside the letters of commission that he and his wife were quietly proud of and the letters of award they had been given since.

His wife had a few more of them than he did, her somewhat longer service having given her slightly an edge on that but he was just about as proud of those as he was of his own these days. His wife was one of those marvels that he hadn't ever believed could happen to him, a woman who had made the loss of his first wife less painful, who had stormed his deep green heart and carried it off without ever seeming to need to try...

Much like his little 'marine' daughter who was currently with the boys trying to re-assemble the front room into a makeshift obstacle course to assault over...

He walked past, mussing one of the lads on the head as he stepped up to his wife, who in turn promptly 'remembered' that she was upset with him and turned a cold shoulder.

It might have been a lot more successful if he hadn't seen the look of playfulness in her eyes before she turned, but he wasn't going to deny her the game anyway, and soon he had the wee ones enlisted into it. Even if they didn't quite understand why Bear needed a dog-house to be in they were more than happy to build one for him

And then to plead with sergeant-major-mum-gran to hug Bear...He just looked so very silly pretending to be upset...

The game soon had laughing kids piling onto the smiling, hugging couple, and all the troubles of the day were soon far far away

Of such things quality moments were made, the bits in between the bad stuff that reminded all of them why it was so good to be a family, and reminded the older ones why they had chosen this life among the stars, making sure that other people could share such happy times with their own families, without fear or oppression...

Soon enough they were eating ("Glands"-dumplings, and "guts" noodles) and matters were turning back towards duty and the life board the ship as Ehlora relayed what she had already discovered about schooling and minding facilities, and Bear looked up his duty roster to fit in with it....

First thing tomorrow he would apparently need to be on station, and both he and his wife quietly agreed that they would make the time to look in at engineering and or sickbay before that point if they got the time...

|Briefing Room - Bridge - Ready Room
|USS Renegade-B

Anthony finished the meeting with his new officers. He was curious as to how Sorul would handle the situation on the planet. However, he and the Renegade had other fish to fry. Anthony left the briefing room and entered the bridge.

He walked over to the helm. "Ensign, I'm going to need your station for a minute."

"Sir?" The helm ensign asked.

"Now, ensign."

"Aye sir." The Ensign rose and backed away. Anthony took his place. He gazed around the bridge to make sure that no one had a clear view of the console. When he was sure that no one could, he went to work typing on the console. When he finished, the entire console went blank. He stood up and the ensign retook his station. "Sir...the console," he said, perplexed.

"Don't worry ensign. Take the ops station for now, and don't worry about helm control. The ship will stop where I told it to." Anthony left the bridge and entered the Ready Room. He took his seat behind the desk and spun the computer screen to face him.

"Computer, patch me through a secure channel to Admiral Harper at Starbase 43 Level A encoding sequence," Anthony ordered to the computer.

Channel Open, the computer responded.

"This is Admira--" the Admiral answered, stopping in his tracks. "Captain Arnold. This is a surprise. I hadn't expected you to contact me so soon."

"We finished our business on the Transit Planet sir, we're en route to the rendezvous point," Anthony responded.

"Excellent. The USS Mirage will meet you there in about a day and a half," the Admiral responded.

"Good, do our counterparts know that we are coming?" Anthony inquired.

"They have been alerted," the Admiral answered.

"Good, everything is in order?" Anthony asked.

"Yes, everything is all set up. But this mission will still be dangerous," the Admiral stated.

"Well, I accepted the mission knowing this. I'm one of the only people in the fleet crazy enough to do this."

"Yes--Well, be that as it may, be careful Captain. Come back with your ship in one piece this time. Starfleet out." The Comm channel closed, and the screen went blank.

the call came through for all senior officers just as Bear was helping to get the kids down to some of the classwork they had been set by their distance learning programme, and for a moment he wondered if he should be answering it.

But a slight shake from his wife's head confirmed the way he was already leaning. With he and his family just aboard the ship, him very much technically and practically off duty at the moment (at least until tomorrow) and the stand in still technically running things it wouldn't be a good idea for anyone if he suddenly usupred that position adn call.

It wasn't just that he wasn't yet familiar with the ship, adn it wasn't just that he wasn't yet familir with the crew on it, nor was it that he had absolutely no idea of the readiness of the vessel for any sort of situation that they might be warping into... all of that eh could more than make up for with a little help from his subordinates.

Mostly it was due to the fact it would be severely bad form for him to suddenly stride in there and take over from the deputy engineer (currently acting chief until officially relieved). Beyond being rude it would effectively be a vote of no confidence for the man's tenure in charge, and a willful undermining of the officer's authority, saying as it did that the incoming CEO basically didn't trust him to do the job he ahd been doing while he ahd been away.

So Bear trusted to the captain's discretion in such things, trusted him to realise why he wasn't responding, and trusted him to make sure that anything he did need to know would be conveyed in a less intrusive manner, and went back to his step-grandsons' times tables...

Meanwhile down in engineering the deputy chief engineer had given the man he knew now to be somewhere on board just long enough to answer should he have felt like it (all the while hoping he wouldn't) before responding himself that he was on the way up; quietly rather thrilled that he was still being trusted with this role, and not missing just how good it would be for his chances of one day soon getting an engineering team all of his own...

Karen had quite literally run out of the briefing room when the captain had dismissed the pair and actually did start running as soon as she was out of their sight. She very much wanted to get a fresh uniform on, after she took as long of a shower or bath as she could manage... She had just started to draw the water when she heard Arnold's voice over the comm.

=/\= Arnold to Senior Staff, briefing in the conference room in half an hour. =/\=

Shit, that decided it, shower, As much as she wanted to take a bath and relax in it she just didn't have the time now... She quickly showered (in and out in less than two minutes) and replicated a duty uniform from the replicator in her quarters. It wasn't the standard as such, rather a skirt instead of pants, and the jacket had numerous pockets for whatever medical or otherwise instruments she'd possibly need at any one time.

Fully clothed for the first time in quite a few hours she took a quick trip to sickbay to get a report from whoever was there and grab some equipment to stuff her bare pockets with, a tricorder, hypospray with a few of the common injectors, some bandages and a PADD that one of the orderlies had left on what she assumed was her desk, detailing the Renegade's medical inventory.

PADD in hand and pockets filled she left the deck and headed to the Conference Room, fully intent on being early...

Major
"Alright boys, I know its been awhile since we've been on real duty. I expect no less then perfect from all of you, You are Marines you don't get rusty and you never forget. I want you all as sharp as the day you graduated that academy is that understood?"

"Yes Sir!" Chimed the Marines in Unison

"Your all Dismissed until further notice I want you all prepped in case were called upon..

And with those words the captains voice came through his comm badge

=/\= Arnold to Senior Staff, briefing in the conference room in half an hour. =/\=

"Alright boys, I need to report to the captain, At Ease!"

And with that he turned and walked out of their quarters and up the hallway to the turbolift.

"Command Level" Barked Morg Gruffly, Stepping through the doors

As the turbolift shot higher through the decks Morg wondered to himself what would be awaiting him, he'd be anxious for some sort of combat lately his cocky attitude was getting to him and he needed to find something to take it out on.

The doors slid apart as he stepped onto the bridge and a flood of memories had come back to him.

Had it really been that long since the old friends.. the old comrades?

He couldn't let himself get caught up in it as he moved forward and entered the briefing he gave a quick salute to his Co,his comrade,. and his commander

"Sir"

The turbolift arrived at the bridge. To josh, it seemed as if his mind had been in a stupor for the past few weeks. He barely got any work done, and the little work he did accomplish, was not nearly what he was known for.

As the door opened, he meandered towards the ready room. He remembered his first time coming here. he had been late, never a good sign. The mission was a simple shakedown.. that turned into.... He entered the ready room, and greeted the Captain. They had not spoken outside of duty in a long time.

He missed his friend.

"Reporting for duty, sir."

Anthony was surprised at how quickly his senior staff arrived. Josh was the last one.

Even when they had all arrived and took their seats, and even when all eyes were on him, he didn't speak for quite a few minutes. He didn't know how to quite put the news he had to break to them.

Anthony stood up and in a cliche manner, walked over to the plaque on the wall. The same one he had been staring into not hours ago.

"They're sending us back," he said. He could almost feel an instant rise in the tension in the room. Two of his officers had been around since then, and knew of what had happened. The others had no doubt heard rumors.

"We're going back to Ancari Space. And this time, we're taking someone with us." He held up a PaDD, all the while, not facing away from the plaque on the wall. "The USS Mirage will rendezvous with us soon. With her, we will be heading into Ancari Space to rendezvous with Federation sympathizers. We will then proceed to a specific location, whose coordinates are top secret, and investigate and possible eliminate the threat of an Ancari Biological Super Weapon."

He finally turned around and faced his senior staff. He had almost imagined his old officers in their chairs, but they were not there. they were gone, never coming back.

Anthony regained his composure, straightened his uniform and fixed his hair. He had become unkempt in the past hour or so.

"Any questions?"

While Bear was as unobtrusively as possible exploring the areas of the ship he might not cause a disruption in, 9incluing a quick trip through the sickbay to have a quiet peek at the facilities fore his wife, his second in command (and acting CEO for the moment) was at the briefing trying to figure but if he should actually say anything.

In the end he just couldn't keep his mouth shut. He was new to the ship, and to this commanding officer and although he had heard the scuttlebutt of the ship's recent history he hadn't actually gotten anything formal or concrete, so there was a big hole in what he was being told.

"Er... Sir?" he started, a little less than completely sure he was allowed/ encouraged to ask the question, "Ancari?" he asked, trying to convey how little he actually knew about them. Like the others he had read some reports, and some of the details written by the Renegade staff the last time they were out that way, but he would rather hear it from the proverbial horse's mouth. "Could you tell us some more sirs?" he offered, including those officers that had been there before in his request.

"And for that matter" he added, his tone gaining confidence as he continued, "if these are the people that banged up the Renegade the last time" he offered, "what are we doing differently this time?" he asked, his branch born protectiveness of the vessel apparent in every word.

Other people might have been more worried by the crew than the fixtures, so to speak, but this man was an engineer educated the old way, one who had actually served with the returned Montgomery Scott and proud of it, the ship was his first concern by a long way.

"And just what are we expected to do while we are there sirs?" he asked, not having the faintest idea if this was anything from a formal military incursion (which in his opinion the ship was not equipped for) or just a scientific survey, that in itself was enough to make him, and by extension a lot of the pother new hands very nervous indeed.

All of which Bear knew absolutely nothing about as he put up with the good natured ribbing of some medical staff who had cottoned on to his good humour and were now aping his accent with a series of "Arrr matey"'s and "Yo ho ho"'s

Karen didn't have the fuzziest about who the Ancari were, but from the sounds of things she probably didn't want to, at all... "I'd like to know some more as well, of course if it's classified or just not something you want discussed then I understand completely..."

Her line of thinking was more so oriented towards what sort of weapons they used, what sort of damage they did, to the ship, and to people if they were boarded, so that in any of those events she could be more effective as a doctor, and possibly save more lives if there were serious injuries that she wouldn't have previously known how to treat...

Anthony's new CEO was absent from the meeting. He was represented by an ensign who he had assigned as temporary dCEO. The Ensign had a question.

Firstly, he wished to know more about the Ancari, which was understandable. However, Anthony simply didn't have the time to explain.

"The Ancari are essentially a riddle wrapped in an enigma, ensign. For me to fully explain them would take too long. Any Information you need can be found in the ship's database."

"And for that matter," the Ensign continued. "If these are the people that banged up the Renegade the last time. What are we doing differently this time?"

Anthony had already expected this question.

"Truth be told ensign, not enough. The Ancari are a powerful civilization. We should be going in with nothing short of an Armada. However, we are only being accompanied by the USS Mirage, and we will be meeting up with some Ancari Rebels who wish to help us. Other than that though, we're on our own again." Anthony looked down at his shoes, trying to distract himself from the situation.

His new CMO, Karen Riely was next to speak.

"I'd like to know some more as well, of course if it's classified or just not something you want discussed then I understand completely..."

"I can't offer much more than this on the mission yet. This is completely classified. There are even some Admirals who don't know that this is going on. Once we rendezvous with the Mirage, I will be giving a full briefing to the Senior Crew on both ships. I will be taking command lead over the Captain of the Mirage."

Anthony felt bad. He was again being ordered to drag his ship and crew into a seemingly impossible situation. He couldn't even prepare his most experienced officers for what to expect when they reached Ancari space.

"Unless anyone else has any questions, I have a few orders." He looked over to the Engineering Ensign. "Ensign. I want engine efficiency increased by no less than seven percent before the day is over. Also, we need to devise a way to rework the shield geometry to better cope with Ancari weapons."

"Doctor, I need you and your team to get ready for a hell of a lot of casualties. The Mirage is better equipped as a medical vessel, but we will still be taking on casualties."

"Major Wolfsong, I need your Marines ready for a type seven combat incursion."

"Commander Frankel, I need you to work with the security and tactical teams. I need an overall increase in weapon ower, efficiency, and a decrease in downtime. I will also need the security officers to begin carrying rifles instead of hand phasers at all times. They are to be ready for a full scale invasion scenario at any time."

Anthony was NOT going to let the ancari get the best of him this time. This mission would succeed. Even if he had to sacrifice his own life to do it. A lot more than honor was at stake. The entire Federation was facing Armageddon. He was the only thing in its way.

Tyler looked at his chronometer and realized that he had lost track of his time, he was late for the staff meeting, not a good start on his new ship. Sprinting out of his office he ran to the nearest turbolift, "Deck One!" he yelled as the door hissed closed behind him.

After an eternity in the lift he was out and sprinting to the conference room as he came into view of it he saw the senior staff exiting, none of them looking too happy at all. Luckily all of them were deep in thought about whatever it was that was discussed at the meeting. It must have been very important, how could he have been so stupid!

He tried to compose himself as he stepped through the hatch and saw the Captain sitting there staring out into space deep in thought. He looked deeply worried about something but Tyler wasn't sure what.

Quietly Tyler moved to the side of the Captain, "Sir I'm extremely sorry, I was consumed with work on a theory for engine modification and I completely lost track of time, it won't happen again." at first the captain didn't respond then as the haze lifted from his eyes he looked up at Tyler and looked as if he was searching for words...

Anthony barely noticed the door slide open, let alone his chief science officer enter the room.

"It'z alright lieutenant. Just don't make a habit of it. Have a seat and we'll continue. I will fill you in when this is through."

| USS RENEGADE-B

The lieutenant acting chief engineer was soon back down in engineering, his face grimmer than the average reaper's and his news weighing him down like the average tonne block, finding his new superior there just 'nosing around' in an informal capacity was actually a relief.

For his part Bear just hadn't been able to resist heading down to his new- soon to be domain, and even though he had tried to remain as unobtrusive as possible had soon begun the process of meeting the various engineering staff and getting acquainted with the ship.

Mostly this was because he couldn't resist looking at the displays and the engineers manning them were proud enough of their work that they would almost immediately volunteer some information on it... which in turn had prompted wider discussions...

By the time the lieutenant was back among the crew things were just about to start stabilising again... then he had a quiet word with bear, passing on the information he had just been given and that was all flung to heck.

Bear's first response was that this was bloody stupid, that if the captain thought they needed a task force to do this job then he shoudl have bleeding well stuck to his guns and refused it until such a point as the powers that were had allocated one.

His second reaction ahd been to think of stomping right up there and telling the captain who had accepted this damn suicide mission that neither he nor his family were having anything to bloody well do with it, and if the man objected in any damn way then Bear was gonna box him on the bloody nose and go take a shuttle...

But then Bear's temper really wasn't all that even where his family were concerned and even as he was growling he was already loking into the problem that the captain had set.

"Okay" he offered, as a team gathered around him, his tone still little short of an outright growl, "some changes" he said, "first thing first" he offered, drawing his finger across the diagram they were looking at. "We have scattering field generators here and here" he said, "damn the loss of power, but we are not letting them beam aboard anywhere but where we want them to... even if the shields go down"

"Secondly" he added, looking to one of the officers at hand, "arm the men" he said, "we're not counting on that lot to keep us safe" he said. Engineers were a top target for any boarding team, as Bear had himself experienced from both ends, and protocols coudl frankly take a running leap as far as he was concerned when it came to the safety of the men under his charge.

"Next" he said "charges under the deckplates here, here and here" he said, laying out some traps in case the bastards did come, "and we're welding this door shut" he added, indicating one door that he considered too many.

"Sir" one of the officer argued, somewhat reluctantly, "that will reduce the efficiency of our..." he trailed off as Bear fixed him with a look that asked very much if the guy knew what or who he was talking to.

"If this place goes the ship goes" he said, "the same with the smaller bays on the separate sections" he insisted, "so bugger efficiency" he swore, "we keep ourselves safe."

"We cut off power to everything we don't need" he said, his finger waving down a list of systems that eh considered un-necessary, "and re-route the lot to integrity fields and internal security fields" he said.

"All non essential computer work gets ditched in favour of personnel tracking" he added, making it clear that he wanted to know where any boarders were and again considered that much higher importance than holo recreation... "Anyone objects send them my way" he added, his tone implying how unfriendly that meeting was going to be.

"You" he continued "start seperate coding the life support" he said, "I want to be able to dump as smaller sections as we can into vaccuum on a moment's notice" he said, still thinking of things that he would have hated to happen to him if he ahd still been in the business of boarding places he wasn't welcome.

"What about the shields and weapons" another officer asked.

"You head that up" bear ordered, nodding towards the man who he had just taken over from, "run all the simulations you can, and then double check them" he said, "whatever particle it is, whatever radiation we need I need to know" he swore, "even if it means repainting the whole ship pink!"

"Guys" he offered, his accent standing out loud and proud, "we are going to war" he said, "the book and protocol goes to balls" he said, "because we do what we have to do to come out the other end."

"I have a wife and a family aboard this ship" he said, "so will some of you" he offered, momentarily startled when a female officer agreed with the wife part... but then it really did take all sorts.."we don't let some br-Ass behind some San Fransisco desk write them off as statistics!"

"Thoise should do us for now" he offered, "you get to that, I'll get to this" he said, tapping another list he had made for himself.

But as they nodded and left the first thing he did was send a message to his wife, telling her to get ready for this unholy mess. There would be no telling her to leave, not with her mindset, but he was not leaving her unprepared.

Tyler nodded and sat down in the only empty chair left, this wasn't exactly how he had envisaged himself starting off his tour of duty here on Renegade. From what he could see the rest of the crew seemed to be quite apprehensive.

The meeting continued on as the captain went over a plan of action, they were being sent on a mission that involved the Ancari. He had heard the name before, they were known to be quite the xenophobes. They were threatening Federation space, he guessed that science would be put on the back burner for now.

The meeting ended Tyler hadn't said much because well quite honestly there was nothing for a science officer to say in a time like this. The officers began to file out, all staring at pads and contacting their respective crews to get the ship in order.

With that Captain Arnold's eyes were locked on his, Tyler lifted his head meeting the standing captain's eyes, this persisted for a few moments, the captain seemed to be in thought far passed Tyler's presence, but soon he broke himself from that and sat down taking a deep breath as if here was preparing himself for a long talk with Tyler.

As the other officers took care of business momentarily, he saw his opportunity to speak to his new science officer.

"Mr MacDuff, I have an assignment for you as well. I need you to coordinate with the tactical department to transfer scientific sensor arrays to tactical proximity and tracking sensors. Not exactly the best way for a science officer to spend his time, but it needs to be done."

After a bit of conversation, Anthony contacted Avery, his new Engineer.

=/\=Lieutenant Avery, I have a request. Se what you can do about modifying the hologrid in the corridors to emit false crew images. Then see if you can't turn off the safeties and arm them. Don't prioritize it over other repairs and modifications.=/\=

Anthony had the feeling that he was quickly becoming the most hated captain in history within the confines of his own ship. He was turning a cruiser into a battleship, and the ship was going to be pushed to her limits. The crew would be pushed well beyond theirs.
