The F-Team: Planning the mission

OOC: The F is for Fucking Crazy.

As the last of the mis-mixed team arrived in her ready room, Miko couldn't help but wonder what in the hell she was getting into. This wasn't exactly a compatible group of personalities she was planning to bring along; a necessary evil, but not a pleasant one.

Pleasant evil? Damn this hangover.

No time to worry about that now. Sighing visibly she turned to face the group and offered a small shrug. "So, we're all going on that little away mission discussed at the briefing." Her eyes darted back and forth at all of them; a womanizing pilot, a massive black Irish man who could squish them all like bugs, and a bisexual, sociopathic counselor. The confidence it inspired was just incredible.

"Any ideas for a plan? Honestly, I'm kinda winging this ridiculous assignment they've stuck us with."

The Counselor was clearly less than thrilled about being assigned to this outing. Besides the fact that she was going to miss an anticipated night of passion with the Chief Medical Officer, she was also going to be neglecting her duties. She had dozens of patients to meet with over the course of the week, and there was no definite time to return. Some of them needed a regular therapist - things could get worse. Thus she also found these orders to run contrary to the Renaissance's mandate - as a disciplinary vessel - to send three of the key people in enforcing that mandate on some fool's errand undercover mission. Thus the sense that they all pawns in some great game crept in... and Maya, having been a pawn in the past, wasn't eager to revisit the experience.

She didn't complain, however, finding it pointless. The goal now was to minimize the damage. In an ideal scenario - they could put the mission in a position where the only option was to abort, and return to the Renaissance with their tail between their legs. In any other occasion, they might just have to succeed - even at the expense of blowing cover...

One thing was certain to her - Maya did not plan on dying for this bullshit assignment. She raised her hand after Miko queried suggestions, choosing her words carefully so as to not suggest she knew anything more about intelligence work than an expert on psychology and pathology should know.

She pointed to the image of the Ku'Tollan rebel that they were seeking. "All we have to do is find this guy. We have no orders to capture him, or even initiate contact," Maya stated. "If we can't pick up his trail, then no harm done. If we do... what does Starfleet expect us to do about it? They can't expect four of us to apprehend someone who previously had a thousand Xindi rebels at his bidding..."

Recognizing she was raising questions rather than offering advice. "If we do need to initiate contact, then my suggestion is that we come to the table with something of value to this gentleman. If he wants to destabilize the relationship between his people and the Federation, then we want to have an asset that appear to aide him in this goal... current Starfleet intelligence, maps of our deployments in the region, nothing that can be easily faked, nor anything that is too obvious."

She glanced at Frank. He was the tactician amongst the lot of them. Maybe he could dig something out of his seemingly endless pool of talents and resources. Perhaps in an act of universal luck, the one thing that their target really needed in his life was a giant fire juggler.

"I'm sure we'll run into someone I know. Pull some strings, see if they've seen this guy."

Rychard sat closer to Miko, opposite Maya and Frank.

"Now, Frank and I aren't full-pledged boy scouts. We know how spaceports are. Mikalovich Station is a nasty frontier, and I'd be lying if I said I hadn't dropped some cargo there."

He didn't go into detail about what the cargo was, or who it was for. He wanted to tell them though. He wanted to tell them all about how his father had taken him there, as a merchant. It was times when he was returning to the past that hit the hardest.

"Anyways, I know how to handle myself. I know what to wear, how far to be apart, and what key areas are worth visiting. And since Betazoid over here," he indicated Maya, "has probably never been to a spaceport, I recommend you girls stay out of seedier areas. For one, we're here for one reason only, and that's Mr. Ku'Tollan. No need to examine cargo, or report anything else to Starfleet. There's no use being sheriffs in Gomorrah. Play it cool, and you'll get out alive."

The Counselor was more than happy to play the out-of-place aristocrat that Lt. Hannah suspected her to be, despite the fact that he seemed to be provoking her curiosity. However, she wondered how Captain Hayakawa would take to being called a "girl" by her 2nd officer.

"Why not just call your friends in advance and ask for his location?" Maya inquired, "Better yet, tell them we'll pay a high price for capturing him... I'm sure a few dozen of your former associates can do a better job that us."

Frank settled in for what should be an interesting meeting. He listened to the Maya’s concerns and nodded, then chuckled at Hannah’s comment.

“I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t dropped some cargo there.”

“And I probably lifted it right after.”

He looked around quickly.

“Shit, was that out loud?”

He nodded at Maya.

“Between Hannah and I, we should be able to scrape up a few contacts and I can almost guarantee we will need to pay for at least some of the information. The first roadblocks I see are A: Sorry councilor, but we’ll get very little just calling ahead, nobody I know will trust long distance communications particularly the info we need, too much chance of being monitored and reprisals coming back to them. And B: Seeing the Fed doesn’t use currency, and I know I don’t have much in the way of Latinum or other hard currency, we’ll need to find a source of cash. I have some confiscated items and I’m sure Commander Freeman knows of more I haven’t been able to find. But we’re talking some serious currency here. How …….hhmmmm how shall I put this……….how close to regs are we gonna run this one Skip???”

(OOC: I can’t remember my login for the main site, just the board so I can’t edit my bio to add the background but anyone with access to personnel files would know Frank grew up on a free trader ship about one step above being a pirate…most of the time. )

"Yes, Captain, what latitude are we granted in regards to Starfleet regulations and protocol?" Maya inquired of Miko. "If it's currency we need, give me one hour with a medical replicator and I can produce for you enough illegal narcotics to trade, under market value, for hard latinum once we read the station..."

Before anyone pointed out the moral question of them putting drugs on the market, "As a former scientist, you can help me modify the shelf-life of said narcotics - they'd be rendered useless once we've left the station," she added. "If we're granted such latitude in executing the mission."

Rychard sat on the table, leaning with his arms on the conference edge.

"That's all fine and dandy, sheriff. But if the drugs go bad before we're out of there, or can't match up to a tester's experience, we might be in a jam."

The thought of being discovered by big, burly pirates with no remorse in just shooting Hannah in the back made him shudder. Now that wasn't very heroic. On the other hand, he wasn't a hero.

"I want weapons. Something Starfleet wouldn't have. Street weapons."

"Freeman's taking care of better equipment. Worst comes to worst, I'm sure there's plenty of arms dealers with exorbitant prices on the station."

"Furthermore, I'm a physicist, not a pharmacist," Miko grumbled at Maya's suggestion, "O'Connor's more qualified to do that. He would be if we were going to, which we're not, because if we're still there when they expire, this operation is going to get bent over a table."

Shifting somewhat uneasily in her seat, she continued, "I seriously doubt that SFI expects us to play by the rules on this one. As such, a full freighter's load of narcotics would be wonderful to bring along."

"Also, you don't need a medical replicator." She snatched up a padd and quickly began jotting down a list of instructions. "Just rearrange a few isolinear chips on any replicator like this, and it'll make all kinds of lovely shit. Alcohol, painkillers, narcotics, stimulants, hallucinogens, you name it."

She tossed the padd Maya's way amount several suspicious yet unsurprised glances from the group. "Oh, what? You don't grow up a whore's daughter and spend six years as an addict without learning this crap."

"So we'll have a ship full of narcotics with no shelf-life, smuggled Starfleet weaponry, and assorted contraband… which we expect to trade to people who may or may not be your former 'friends' or 'associates' in exchange for information about a dangerous terrorist."

The Counselor shrugged. It was a plan, not the worst, and certainly not the cleanest either. "Unless we plan to backtrack and kill every person we've made illicit deals with on the way home, how are we to keep this getting out of hand?"

"And with that in mind, how big is this freighter? Are we pulling any of the rank and file crew as support staff?" Maya inquired.

"It's about the size of my breasts," Miko muttered in frustration as she read off a padd detailing their vessel, "Little cargo hauler called the..." Oh, you had to be kidding.

"The Aligerhi. It's a ship named for Date Fucking Aligerhi. Son of a bitch, they're telling us to go to hell, aren't they?" She had to give SFI credit-it was certainly one of the more creative ways she'd been told to enter the Inferno.

"Alright, moving on." She tossed aside the padd and shook her head in utter disappointment. "Intel's shitty sense of humor aside, I have a feeling we're not going to get out of this without violence. That being said, I would like to avoid it as long as possible, which means we maintain some subtlety during this mission." She glared up at O'Connell, easily the least subtle member of the group. "No disintergrations."

"I don't think it's Frank we have to worry about," Maya said calmly, glancing between Rychard and Miko. "Nonetheless, if it's just the four of us let's do out best to watch each other's backs."

She still didn't like the sense of not really having a plan - and the chances of them being discovered as Starfleet, or simply killed and robbed of all their illicit cargo, seemed dangerously high. Being neither a drug dealer nor an arms trader, she expected that those who were would have no problem with inflicting violence on the crew of the Alighieri.

"Still, your Yeoman didn't make it clear what we're to do once we discover the location of this so-called terrorist, Captain," Maya stated. "Capture and return him to Federation space? Move to another location and rendez-vous with the Renaissance? Or… even better… perhaps Commander Freeman will bring the Starship and come and pick us up along with the trash?"

"He didn't say. I assume we're just supposed to confirm he's there, but that's a bit tentative at the moment."

Visibly desiring an end to this meeting, Miko slapped down one of the numerous padds littering her office and glared at Hannah and O'Connell. "Any more questions? No? Good. Go get ready. Or not. I don't care what you do as long as you're out of my office."

Once all the men had vacated the room, Miko relaxed a bit, pulling up her feet to rest on the desk. "Now then," she addressed Maya, "You wanted to talk to me, right? If it's about last night, you make a wonderful Teddy bear." She glanced up, trying to recall the events of the previous night through her drunken haze. "Hnh, yeah, Teddy bear. Our clothes were on, so we didn't do anything non-Platonic. I think."

"I left you a hypospray with a little miraculous hangover cure... I see that you didn't use it," Maya replied, with a serious expression. She understood why the Miko would be hesitant to inject something into her system.

"But no. Nothing happened," she stated, and then cracked a sly smile. "Even though Betazoids are fully capable of doing it with their clothes on."

At the replicator, she used the sequences that Miko provided and re-synthesized her hangover cure. She handed Miko the injector. Within moments of entering the blood stream, calmed the throbbing head-ache, while also providing a vivid reminder of some of the events of the past evening.

"You need a friend, a sister, a mother... I can be all those things, way better than the ones you were born with," Maya continued. "Under those conditions, anytime you're feeling alone, day or night, I'll make myself available. I've heard that's what friends are supposed to do, at least."

She sat down across from the Captain. "Which brings me to another matter that is both personal and professional," the Counselor stated. "I intend to have an affair with your Chief Medical Officer. I believe that such a relationship is allowable by Starfleet guidelines of conduct, given that he is neither my superior officer nor my subordinate."

She shrugged dismissively, as said guidelines weren't really being observed by anyone else aboard. Nonetheless, she seemed sincere in her intentions. "I don't expect this to have any effect on our friendship, Captain, but since you're my friend, I wanted you to know first."

She sighed. "I assure you that I'll end things, if in any way it starts to effect our professional competency, which is a risk worth acknowledging."

For a moment, Miko believed she was hallucinating as a result of the injection Maya had given her. It took quite a long time for the fact that this was real to set in; she wanted to have a relationship with who?

"O'Connor?", she finally replied in total shock, "Of all the men to have affairs with, O'Connor?" Good Lord. "Look, who you decide to have sex with is your business as long as we're not screwing each other, but as your friend I'm obliged to point out the fact that he's a damn chauvinist."

She rubbed her temples as a new headers unrelated to her hangover made itself known. "I wish you could just have a bunch of meaningless one-night stands without analyzing it. You know, like all us other sociopaths."

"That sort of behavior would be irresponsible, for me at least. You know what I'm capable of..." Maya replied, quite sincerely. She seemed hesitant to continue the conversation, and paused for a moment.

"I don't think many people could handle it. Therefore, I like to be careful with my selections. No one else meets my standards, except perhaps the Scientist, and she's clearly been claimed."

She smirked, joking, "Unless you'd like to kick your XO a little harder next time and put him out of the running."

The Counselor saw no need to justify her decisions or to defend the Doctor against Miko's charges. If she doubted anything, it was whether he could handle the things she was planning on doing to him.

"I was supposed to have a date tonight, so if I'm moody for the next few days, you'll know why," Maya added after a moment. She didn't like being moody, but her incredibly organized life had suddenly been thrown into chaos and Maya was disappointed. "And speaking of chauvinists, if Lieutenant Hannah refers to me as a 'girl' again, I am going to rip out a piece of his mind. Please keep him in line."

She stood and kissed the Captain on the forehead, gathering her things to leave. "You know me better than anyone here, and you don't even know anything about me. I'm good at my job, but I've never dealt with this level of disrespect, unprofessionalism, and outright hostility from my patients. I need to do something about this frustration, and I'd rather it be something good, as something bad would be very bad," Maya stated. "I'm going to do whatever needs to be done to look out for you, and keep you in line. You're going to have to do the same for me."
