Hesitating for a moment, Alex reached out and pressed the door chime. She was late, fashionably so she supposed, but late was late. Still silently cursing her alarm, which had remained silent for reasons known only to itself, the science officer took a deep breath as she waited. "Sorry," she apologised as the doors opened, holding up the bottle she carried. "If dinner is still an option, I brought some wine..?" Vintage, she added inwardly. Though the very notion almost demanded more appropriate attire. Something classic, chic... not the last minute outfit she had pulled together. Which consisted of tight fitting jeans and - unusally for her - a halter neck top. She waited for him to speak, honestly unsure if he would want to entertain a dinner guest at this time of night. His silence made her self concious and she gestured down the corridor, "or we could have dinner another time if you've eaten already." (tag) |

Scott opened the door, dressed about as casually as Alex was, dresswed in relaxed jeans, and a casual button down shirt he'd left untucked. He was glad she'd come, the last couple weeks ahd been trying, especially after today's meeting. He needed a release, and time with Alex, while stressful in it's own way, gave him that release. "Sorry," she apologised as the doors opened, holding up the bottle she carried. "If dinner is still an option, I brought some wine..?" He smiled, but said nothing, as he watched her. She was beautiful. There was no doubt about that. But his attraction to Alex went beyond the obvious physical attraction the seemed to share. The fact, despite some obvious interest shown by a few other women on board, that Scott had curtailed his normally flirtacious fun, in favor of this one woman, spoke volumes about how attached he'd grown, in the time they'd spent together. She waited for him to speak, honestly unsure if he would want to entertain a dinner guest at this time of night. His silence made her self concious and she gestured down the corridor, "or we could have dinner another time if you've eaten already." "Don't be silly. It is never to late at night for me to entertain a lovely lady trying to get me drunk." He smiled and winked, before scooping her up in an embrace, right there in the hallway, and kissing her. The ship and it's crew knew. There was no point trying to deny that fact. So, since she was unafraid, Scott saw no reason, when they were off duty, to hide how he felt about her. "Filet mignon au poive, with seasoned potatoes, and a butter and brown sugar green bean side sound good? I hope that's a red wine." He smiled, and lead her inside, allowing the doors to close behind them. |

Allowing herself to be guided inside his quarters, still a little surprised at the very public welcome. Aside from the birthday party he had thrown for the captain, he had been careful. To the point where it almost seemed like an obsession, all intended to protect her. Her reputation, her career. And so his public show of affection threw her a little. "Of course," she replied, her expression one of mock horror at the very idea of choosing anything but red wine. As she set the bottle down, taking in every detail of the table which was set for dinner, she turned back to face him. Curious about the sudden change. Instead of asking, she simply wrapped her arms around his neck, standing on her tip toes to kiss him. "i've missed you." |

Scott wrapped his arms around Alex in return, and responded to the kiss with his own. He held on to her, perhaps a bit longer than he normally would have, and tossled her hair a bit. "I've missed you too. Working opposite shifts, always on the go, never time to slow down. Well, I'm glad we made the time, and I'm glad you came, even if it is a little late." He grinned, then slowly released his embrace, to pull out Alex's chair for her. He handed her a wine key, assuming her bottle, she'd want to do the honors. Then he crossed to his seat, frowned, and slid his setting across the table next to hers. With a grin, he picked up his chair, and carried it around the table, plunking it down next to where Alex was seated. "I'm not in the mood to stare at you from across the table. It took forever to get time alone with you, and I want to be with you, for the time we've got." Scott sat down next to her, and leaned in to kiss her again, as the cork popped lightly from the bottle. "No shop talk tonight, ok? Nothing about your department. Nothing about the ship. Nothing about the mission. Please? I have to deal with that so often I'm beginning to understand why the captain is a lunatic." He said it as a joke, mainly because he strongly suspected Miko being damaged goods was a lifetime of bad fortune, but commanding this crew was hardly theraputic. "Deal?" |

"Deal?" For the second time in one night, he caught her by surprise. Not so much by the words, but by the feelings behind them. For once, their was a hint of vulnerability. Of actually needing someone or something. A far cry from the persona which their current commanding officer presented to the crew day after day. Pouring two glasses of wine, appearing to give the idea far more consideration than it needed, she frowned. "But I so wanted to tell you about the sub -" she began, before glancing up at him. In that instant her expression changed, the frown replaced by a warm smile. Forcing herself to appear at least slightly more serious, she nodded. "Deal," she agreed. It was an easy promise to make. To essentially forget anything existed beyond those doors, outwith this moment. "I'm curious," she added as she took a sip of wine, "what exactly do you want to talk about?" |

Scott smiled, sipping his wine. Her humor was infectuous. As was her grin. And right now, he needed that. Badly. "Anything but the ship, it's crew, or it's mission. Tell me about you. Tell me about where you grew up? Your family? Your life before Starfleet? I wanna know about how you got to where you are." It wasn't much, Scott was kinda grasping. He didn't want to waste the tiny amount of free time he and Alex could manage, talking shop though. That was hardly a good way to progress their relationship. And that stopped him up short too. Relationship? When had he begun considering it that? Perry had referred to her as his girlfriend, and he wasn't sure that fit, but, then what were they? "Even better, because this has been bugging me a little? How do you define, or how do you want to define, the relationship between us, when we're off duty, like this?" |

The question hung in the air a long moment, demanding an answer which wasn't immediatey forthcoming. Instead, Alex lifted her glass of wine and quickly drained the contents before setting the now empty glass down on the table. Relationship talk... that she hadn't expected. "I don't," she answered finally, simply. She frowned as she studied her glass, turning it in her hands and watching the light reflect off the glass. As if there was a perfect answer hidden in the glass. She knew it was an answer that needed its own explanation, and the silence proved it. "I don't know what this is," she said softly, affording him a brief glance to try and decipher what he was thinking, what he was feeling. It was impossible to tell. "And relationships? I am probably the worst person in the world to ask. I run from them. So fast." She took a deep breath. "I like you," she added, "a lot. I guess you figured that part out. I know your reputation but I honestly don't care about that. But I don't know what we are, not yet. I guess we have... potential." At the last word she glanced up, waiting for his reaction. |

"My reputation..." Scott let out a heavy sigh. He might have known this would come up at some point, and he really had no one to blame but himself for it. His reputation, or reputations, were something he'd spent a great deal of time and effort to cultivate. Normally, he enjoyed the recognition that went with them. In this case, it worked against him. "Alex? My reputation, at least the one you're referring to, isn't quite what it's made out to be...I mean...I'm not really like that...sorta. Yes, I've had a few flings. I do better in those than relationships, most of the time. I'm not the womanizer my reputation suggests though. And so far, on this ship, the most I've done is dance and kiss one person. And that'd be you." He shrugged, hoping that made some sense, and might lesson any worries she might have. He took hold of her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Potential. I like that. I don't want you to start running, Alex, cuz then I'd just have to chase you down. I'm fine with taking our time still, and making sure we stay at a pace and direction we're both comfortable with." |

"And what exactly makes you so sure you'd catch me?" Alex mused with a playful smile, glancing up from the hand which held hers. Confidence was not something their first officer lacked by any stretched of the imagination. Or over-confidence. Perhaps bringing up his reputation was not the best approach, especially when she put so little faith in rumours, but nevertheless his words were so full of conviction that it was impossible to deny the truth in them. Besides, she hadn't for a moment considered herself to be just the latest in a long line of his conquests on the Ren. Although she had heard (and occassionally witnessed it first hand) of some of the crew's efforts to gain the affections of their First Officer, they were told in such a way that made it clear their efforts had been in vain. "Like I said, I don't care about reputations," she reminded him gently. "Unlike the dancing..." With a grin she held up her wine glass, "if you think you'd have a change at catching me, or dancing again, you will definately need to keep this topped up." |
