NXT TakeOver: Wargames!

CARD:
Cole / Fish / O'Reily vs. AOP / Roddy vs. Sanity - War Games Match

McInytre (c) vs. Almas - NXT Title Match

Ember Moon vs. Kairi Sane vs. Nikki Cross vs. Peyton Royce - Vacant NXT Women's Title Match

Black vs. Velveteen Dream

Ohno vs. Sullivan

Dunne (c) vs. Gargano - UK Title Match (Dark Match airing on NXT next week)

---

Everyone knows that TakeOvers are the best shows. Not too long, but quality. Like great ROH shows used to feel sorta.

I think this one kinda looks a little weaker on paper than others, but these shows rarely disappoint very much, so I'm not too worried. I do like that there's lots of "homegrown" talent alongside the established indie vets. 4 outta five matches have some anyway. That's good. Important to feature the guys that really need to be built into stars / good workers on these shows, I think. In the past, there have been indie-talent heavy shows, and while they're fucking great, maybe that's not supposed to be what NXT is about? Who knows?

I've never seen a War Games match, but everyone in that match is awesome and AOP, while limited, always step up on Takeovers, so there's no reason this shouldn't be great unless the gimmick kills it.

McIntyre vs Almas is good because no way Drew doesn't retain, and it's nice to see the belt get defenses behind it instead of going to the first dude who ends up challenging for it.

Black should squash Dream. Black should squash everyone. While he's on NXT and for the first year-18 months he's on the main roster, the guy should murder everyone. People wanna see him as a killer. Trust. Also, his finisher sucks and he needs a new one. But I love him. His entrance song is fucking insane.

UK title match not being on the main show is crazy. Pete Dunne put on the best WWE match of the year and they're trying to hide him from the world. He's so dang good. I get the UK tv show deal, should it ever come, is going to take a while, but for fucks sake, give this guy time and a spotlight and let people watch him do great matches. Fucking fuck.

I just went to NXT here in Austin and it was kind of a run through for War Games. Ohno and Sullivan actually surprised me with a good match but Chris Hero can work a good match with anyone. Main event was a tag bout between McIntyre & Gargano (fun fact, the last time I went to a live wrestling show was Evolve and they tagged there too.) vs Almas and Dunne. Dunne and Gargano worked really well together so I'm excited to see what they do on their own.

Undisputed fought Sanity in a pretty good match. Adam Cole actually got busted open and taken to the back very early on. He came back though but apparently they said he'd need 7 staples. Dream beat Tyler Bate and then beat him down afterwards as well as Trent Seven until Black made the save. Cut a promo about how their going to fight in San Antonio tomorrow. Crowd booed, good times. Didn't get to see Black, Roddy, Ember, Nikki, or Peyton wrestle.

I think Takeover will be pretty solid. I don't really care for McIntyre or Almas but I think they'll do fine. Anything is a step up over Roode in my opinion as I find him super boring. I've never seen a Wargames match and I don't know why you need two rings just for 9 people but I'm open to it. My question is will the second ring be there all night? Will they set it up in between and if they do, will there just be a large section open for the future ring?

McIntyre/Almas should be a decent watch, but it's not going to burn the house down. McIntyre is a solid performer who showed he has the chops to be main event caliber but I think they'll keep him in NXT for a while.

War Games was always a bit of a mess back in the day that was hard to televise due to the format of the match. I'm hoping that the Dub has the kinks worked out but I'm not overly confident that they do. Still, the talent in the match is promising and that alone should carry it.

Black/Dream and Ohno/Sullivan should be decent pot-warmer bouts but I'm not expecting either to be something to write home about.

The womens' four-way and Dunne-Gargano are the two matches that I feel have the chance to really steal the show. Dunne has Steamboat-Macho Man potential no matter where he appears on the card and it's ridiculous that his match is going to be a dark match and not an official part of the PPV.
