How to Work Well with AJ-HPX2100 P2 MXF in FCP Summary: You maybe have the doubt that how to work well with Panasonic AJ-HPX2100 P2 MXF in FCP X. This guide may give you some tips on the how-to. ![]() On the Panasonic discussion board, there are so many Panasonic AJ-HPX2100 users feedback that they can’t solve the trouble with importing MXF into FCP X. The referenced content below is an example of case: " Hello, I have MXF files from the new Panasonic AJ-HPX2100, 1090x1080 Full HD. On IMPORT I choose "leave files at the original place" (in German) so what happens is that FCPX is demuxing all the files and creates new files in the Mediathek-Pack/Media-Folder with .mov-endings. It doesn't link. So far, so well just more Data on my disc, but some times it is LINKING to the original mxf-files. In the end I have a nice mess of linked-mxf-files and new demuxed .mov-files in my Mediathek-Pack. Couldn't find out yet what is causing which behavior since it changes even from on clip to the next. ANY ideas?" The reason of the problem is not unique. There are few possibilities could cause the mess of importing Panasonic AJ-HPX2100 P2 MXF to FCP X. I organized a list for you. a. You use ShotPut Pro to copy the Data to a Hard Drive while filming (with a checksum) b. at the editing studio you copy the whole data (inclucing all the xml and folders) to your G-Raid (for editing) c. importing into FCP X the system thinks you import from a camera card, ignores "leave in space" and makes out of your .MXF files demuxed .mov files in the Libary-Package-Media-Folder, this means new files that take space d. .MXF files that miss the correct camera card structure around, plus .MXF files from other cameras are linked and not copied So there is a wild mixture of linked files and copied (demuxed .mxf to .mov) files in your FCPX-Libary. After excluding the factors above, I’m glad to offer you a free solution to work well with Panasonic AJ-HPX2100 P2 MXF in FCP X. The solution makes a bit of work necessary but works: Take the files in the XDROOT folder (Panasonic AJ-HPX2100 is putting everything on a card in this folder) and put it just outside the XDROOT-folder, but leave the XDROOT-folder in place. In the following part, I have another method for you. With a professional third-party MXF converter, just like Pavtube iMixMXF, you can achieve working well with Panasonic AJ-HPX2100 P2 MXF files in FCP X. This program can convert MXF to not only Apple ProRes codec, but also DNxHD codec for Avid MC on Mac. The most important feature in this software is able to output multiple audio tracks with Apple ProRes for Final Cut Pro X, so that you can keep every audio channel with Panasonic AJ-HPX2100 MXF files. Tips: 1. When converting MXF footage using Final Cut Pro oriented format templates(e.g. Apple Prores), please ensure that your computer has Final Cut Pro installed, otherwise the converted files will have audio only without image. 2. If you are using FCP X, please make sure you have installed ProApps QuickTime Codecs, or you may get files with sound only without video. 3. If you want to know more about Apple ProRes, please check Types of Apple ProRes Codecs, Apple ProRes Info & Tips, Apple ProRes Specifications. Click "Add Video" or "Add from folder" button on the top menu to browse and choose your MXF files. (The hot key is Command + O) ![]() Step 2. Choose the preset codec. This professional MXF converter has preset Apple ProRes output profile, you don’t need to think about the specific parameters. Just click on the format bar and follow "Final Cut Pro" > "Apple ProRes 422(HQ) (*.mov)". ![]() Step 3. Multi-Track Video Output. This is an outstanding feature. Currently, you can choose 8 multi-track output formats, Multi-track MKV, Multi-track MP4, and Multi-track MOV and 5 multi-track MOV output formats with Apple ProRes Codecs for FCP X. Apple ProRes Codecs under FCP category cannot keep multi tracks. The only way to output multi-track Apple ProRes is to choose them under Multi-track Video category. Please note that currently you can't edit Panasonic AJ-HPX2100 MXF video if choosing multi-track output formats. And before clicking Settings button to set video/audio parameters, you need to choose a file from list. In the Multi-track Settings window, you can choose which audio track to output, and specify what codec you'd like to encode with. To mix the multiple audio tracks into one, you can check Mix into one track potion and confirm. ![]() Step 4. Start converting MXF files When all settings are done, click big "Convert" button in the main UI. The MXF to Apple ProRes 422 HQ conversion will begin soon. Then you can find the converted MXF videos by clicking "Open" button. Now you’re able to import and edit Panasonic AJ-HPX2100 MXF files to FCP without any mess. You can drag your converted MXF files to the left panel of FCP X for editing. Enjoy!
