Names: Lucas Nash; Luc'Ash Asr Naz; Luqa al-Nasr (11th Century), Lukhior ar-N'sharj (Cultic Texts), Luxapt Nehekhresh (Possible Mortal Name, Ancient Egypt) Gender: Male Age: Unknown, suspected to have been born around 2500-2000 BC in Egypt. Clan: Follower of Set Generation: Unknown, believed to be 5th, possibly 4th. Lucas Nash in Detroit Lucas Nash was the mysterious Setite Methuselah who terrorised Detroit for a little over a year, infesting the Kindred and Ghoul population of the city with strange dreams a visions. Soon after these dreams began a strange cult came to the attention of the Giovanni after they attempted an attack on the Giovanni compound in the Jefferson Corridor. The activities of this cult were characterised by extreme violence committed by large numbers of Ghouls led by Kindred who seemed to be a debased and corrupted form of the Ravnos clan; this led to even greater persecution of the Ravnos and gypsy elements in the city by all major Kindred factions. After members of the cult were captured by agents of both Angelo Matachelli of the Camarilla and Jean-Claude Deveaux of the Anarchs a great deal of information was uncovered. The cult members did not know that they were Ghouls of Kindred and believed that their supernatural powers came from their 'God' Lukhior ar-N'sharj who came to them in visions commanding them to help bring about the 'End Times' after which they would join him in paradise. Research done by the Camarilla and by House Cutting uncovered more about Lukhior ar-N'sharj, identifying him as an enigmatic Methuselah last known to be active under the name Lucas Nash in the 18th Century; the Tremere became so concerned that they went over Prince Matachelli's head to involve an Alastor named Alexander Zhukov, and Elder Tremere of great power. Zhukov arrived in the city with a mandate to identify Nash's supporters and eliminate them and their master; he was also mandated to investigate the Camarilla leaders of the city and judge them for their failure in handling the situation. Deveaux of the Anarchs meanwhile communed with his own 'Gods' the Samedi Loa, and from them uncovered a great deal about Nash who had proven to be anathema to them long in the past. This prompted a dark pact between Deveaux and the Loa after which he was never the same man. Passing what he learned from the Loa on to fellow Anarchs in a better position than he to act against the cult a war began in the sewers and old tunnels beneath the city as Anarch gangs, united by their fear of Nash and hatred of the dark dreams and visions, fought bloody battles with Nash's followers. Sullivan O'Hanlon, Nora Penvellyn, Leslie, and Vincent Tadeu spearheaded efforts on the ground after the cult attacked a number of their meetings, ultimately culminating in a series of raids knocking out the major cult strongholds before finally locating the 'Tomb' of Nash himself. For his part Nash had yet to fully awaken from his centuries long slumber and the spreading of dreams was the effort of his slowly emerging consciousness to manipulate the city in preparation for his arrival. The seeds of the cult had been sown scant years before and even from his slumber Nash spun his intricate plots and plans. As the time of his awakening came closer and closer the dreams and visions he tormented the city with intensified and so too it seemed did the powers of his followers. The culmination of this whole affair came when a team of Anarchs supported by Andrew Cutting, his personal bodyguard, and the Alastor Zhukov, assaulted a major cult stronghold. The deeper they worked their way into the meandering service tunnels that made up the den the more they were assailed by illusions and projections cast by the corrupted Ravnos minions on the slumbering Setite. Finally the attacking coalition broken into the penultimate chamber and fought with the last of Nash's tomb guard. As the few remaining Anarchs engaged the Tomb Guard Andrew Cutting, Zhukov, and Deveaux entered Nash's tomb chamber. What exactly transpired within in unknown, only Deveaux emerged unscathed, Andrew Cutting emerged severely injured and with little recollection of the events and the Alastor was never seen again. The official Camarilla line is that Nash met his death in the tomb at the hands of the Alastor who was destroyed by the Methuselah's powerful supernatural defences in the 'heroic' act of sacrifice the ended his reign of terror. The Anarchs believe the story spread about that the Alastor was utterly overwhelmed by the Methuselah before Deveaux diablerised him, and view this as a betrayal by Deveaux. The truth is probably somewhere in between. Andrew Cutting has talked little of what transpired in Nash's tomb, and has politely sidestepped any credit for the Methuselah's death on an official level. Publicly he supports the Camarilla's official version of events perhaps as payment to overlook the Alastor's conclusions about him and House Cutting; unofficially many look at Andrew and wonder - what does he know really? What really happened? Only two people can set this matter to rest, Cutting and Deveaux, and neither seem to be prepared to spill their secrets. One thing is certain though, ever since Cutting and Deveaux have been bitter enemies. The Cult of Nash The Cult of Nash in Detroit draws its roots back to some time around 1998 when Nash briefly emerged from his slumber just long enough to implant a series of visions in the mind of an already somewhat unhinged Ravnos name Grigori Arekar. Arekar's weak mind was utterly overwhelmed by the Methuselah's will and went on to write two volumes reciting the visions he had seen in one, and the strange pseudo-religious tenets he gleaned from them in the other. Arekar debased his blood through a series of strange rituals and then sired a group of thirteen mortal followers; explaining that the ritual empowered them with the strength and powers of their 'God' Lukhior ar-N'sharj - he then promptly destroyed himself before the thirteen new kindred could learn any more or even realise what they had really become. Thus believing that some mysterious god had granted them great power the Thirteen set about enacting the will of this god in Detroit in accordance with the tenets set out in the Second Book of Arekar. Of the thirteen one claimed to be receiving nascent visions from their god and carved for herself a position of leadership and power by seizing the First Book of Arekar and using the strange babbling visions within to influence the other twelve members of the Thirteen. This woman's real name was Lauren Spake, but her cult moniker was Hierarch Khepth. As is the case with many cults with a small but intensely active membership base the Cult of Nash grew quickly, especially due to the supernatural powers displayed by the Thirteen and the powers they could grant to their followers. When Lucas Nash began to reawaken once more in 2014 he mentally reconnected with his cult, and finding that it had sprouted like a weed as intended he subtly manipulated Khepthe sending her visions detailing what he would need in order to re-enter the world. Much of what he requested was in a Kindred sense meaningless affectation, the tears of innocents and other such superstitious balderdash, but two things were very much necessary. Nash faced a gargantuan undertaken in simply awakening his physical form, his will and supernatural presence had grown so great, and his body had so decayed that a monumental amount of potent blood would be needed to reawaken him fully. While most of this blood could come from ordinary mortals Nash desired something with more kick and so sent his followers out to capture 'living' kindred so that they could be used in a grand raising ceremony. Nash's cult now numbered perhaps one hundred and fifty members; their strange beliefs and the befouled Ravnos blood which fuelled them had led to their physical degradation and most looked feral, half starved lunatics. Believing that they were restoring their 'God' to the world and bringing about the end of time the Cult began to act more and more recklessly, attacking the cemetery around the Deveaux house and essentially kicking into motion the turn of events which would ultimately lead to their war with the Anarchs and Camarilla. Cult activity would subsequently rise sharply and initially it was believed that the Cult itself was the cause of the nightmarish visions plaguing the city, rather than the symptom of Nash's awakening that it was. Due to the early lack of information about the Cult and about Nash himself both the Anarchs and the Camarilla were left uncertain of what to do. The Sabbat for their part has a somewhat better understanding of the situation but were in no position to do anything about it after a large number of their members defected, reducing the Sect's power in the city substantially. Whether or not the Cult leaders came to realise that they were vampires themselves at this point is unclear, however with the influx of former Sabbat members the amount of Cult activity and the efficacy of their attacks increased. It would take time and a great expenditure of resources to uncover the Cult dens and clear them out, but eventually a force of Anarchs led by Vincent Tadeu, Sullivan O'Hanlon, and Nora Penvellyn cleared out the main Cult stronghold and put six of the Thirteen to death along with the Hierarch Khepth. The destruction of the Cult's Headquarters and the loss of the senior members of the Thirteen signalled the end of the Cult's offensive activities in Detroit and they withdrew into the hidden tunnels surround Nash's tomb, preparing for a final confrontation. The last of the cult, including the remaining seven members of the Thirteen, dubbed the Tomb Guard, made a last stand defending Nash's burial chamber. Ultimately their efforts were futile and the Tomb Guard were slain to a man; their failure leaving the burial chamber itself undefended. |
