![]() DRAGONS COACH HAS MIXED FEELINGS AFTER JLT COMMUNITY SERIES South West Dragons coach Pie 4 Life has spoken for the first time since the conclusion of the JLT Community Series and has mixed emotions following an up-and-down pre-season competition. There were a few standouts from players he did not expect, while some household names let him down. "Jake Kelly for one really suprised me," he said. "He scored an 87 and a 64 in two out of the three games and looks to have cemented a spot in the Crows back half. "He was one of my last picks in the inaugual draft but he looks like someone that could be good value. "Another is Karl Amon who with a 70, 65 and 86 has performed enough to possibly earn a bench spot for round one. "It's not easy to pick 22 heading into the game against Black Daviar, because we have to weigh up a team that we believe will win. "There are so many players particularly pushing for a spot in the best 22." One of the key dilemmas laid in the key position posts at either end. "Eric MacKenzie, Scott Thompson and Daniel Talia have all shown they can score on occasion, but none have taken the bull by the horns and dominated across the three weeks," Pie 4 Life said. "Heath Grundy has largely disappointed so far, but he's durable so he will no doubt be an emergency. "Picking the key defenders will be tough. "The other dilemma is the key forwards - I was pretty set on Jack Gunston and Travis Cloke, but an 89 from Sam Reid in that final round suddenly has me thinking whether he should replace Cloke. "Clokey plays the Pies in Round 1 so he might be fired up, but could playing them cause him to score lower as well ala Dale Thomas' first outing against the Pies when he switched to Carlton." There was less uncertainty surrounding the captaincy tag. "Paddy (Patrick Dangerfield) will get it," he said. "He's the highest scoring player in the game and while others in considering include Beama' (Dayne Beams) and Pendles (Scott Pendlebury), Danger is the player we'll pick to lead us out. Pendles will get the vice-captain tag." Keep an eye out on The Den for more information including an opponent analysis coming soon. Edited by Pie 4 Life, Mar 21 2017, 02:43 PM.

![]() OPPOSITION ANALYSIS: BLACK DAVIAR The Star: Max Gawn The Guns: Steele Sidebottom, Ollie Wines, Jackson Macrae There's no doubt if there was a betting market on this game, the Dragons would be strong favourites. Black Daviar has a good core midfield, but is primarily filled with youth around the ground. The only ruck (apart from maybe Goldstein) that will beat Grundy one-on-one, Gawn is the player to watch for Black Daviar. Others that could potentially hurt us are Steele Sidebottom, Ollie Wines and Jackson Macrae who form a formidable young midfield, particularly the latter two. Outside of those four however there is not too much likely to hurt us one-on-one, but there certainly is talent for the future. Angus Brayshaw, Jordan De Goey (who will miss round one), Lachie Weller, Ed Vickers-Willis and Darcy Tucker all have strong upside. In this match though I would be incredibly disappointed if we did not come away with a fairly comfortable win. It will be good to get our season off to a strong start and look out at The Den for an extended squad to be named ahead of the match beginning Thursday. Edited by Pie 4 Life, Mar 21 2017, 02:43 PM.
