Well they've got some pretty heavy duty poisons at their disposal, so even if they didn't 'know' they could have a go. It would almost seem negligent of him to not do something like that. And the precedent is certainly there.
Oberyn poisoned his spear.
Joffrey, Myrcella, Tyene and Lady Olenna all dead by poison. All the Freys. I'm sure I'm forgetting some, too.
