Into Limbo, the Silent Dream; It began not with a call to arms, but the gentle - if not maddening - embrace of the night.

The billowing sugar breeze from the Candy Cane Crag seeped into their noses, the peppermint scent was strong, but pleasing. Lemongrass stood tall beside them, and a litany of strawberry skies sung to their eyes. Farifon, their noble, if not porcine steed would begat a bellow of bacon, and flocks of pants and skirts skirted the western skies.

"Ignemus Morgeson Remusca!" A voice called to them, and they would understand it instantly: 'Good grief, he's naked!' They were fluent in the language of this land.

But there was something not quite right. There was Trouble in Truffle Town.

Feeling another twinge of nervousness, Quinn chanced a glance behind him. No sign of trouble, save for a passing mushroom, apparently drawn to the sound of bacon. So far, so good. They were almost home-free now. But he knew this last stretch of the journey might very well be the most dangerous.
A voice, calling out through the wind, cause a twinge of panic to run through him. However, a quick glance down confirmed that he was not the subject of the panicked statement. The question, then, was who. Who indeed. Truffle Town was approaching. The time was almost upon then.

Ryan had done it, this time. His assignment was to cook a batch Mint Shuffle brownies, and he had botched it completely. Worse, the microwave was now flashing in different colors and playing weird music. The brownies, though staying alive, were now up in flames and quickly raging into an inferno!

Watching his greatest fear come to life, he crouched in the corner of the kitchen in an effort to hide himself from the smoke, flames, and groovy beats.

"Oh no!" he exclaimed. "My cakes will burn! I'm going to get an F for sure!"

Who was what now?! Well, according to the voice, it was a male, so it couldn't have been her, but still she couldn't help but want to ensure she wasn't a victim either, but fortunately, her sweet roll tiled dress was still intact.
So why was she smelling peppermints?
She tried to stand in order to peer ahead; she was not the only rider, though she recognized no one with her. However, the steed's movement over a sudden rough patch of terrain kicked her off!
She tumbled with a yelp, fearing the adventure had come to an early end. Fortunately, she was still hanging on; her sweet roll dress had caught onto the creature's tail, unraveling and dragging her along like a rope. It was a good thing she had on her sugar crystal chainmail underneath or this would really be a predicament...

Sweet roll rope held strong, as the lemon grass covered ground opened to a chocolatey darkness. Farifon was simply not fast enough to escape the fudgey maw of the earth. As they descended into the Void of traps, they would soon see below them, flashing lights and hear the greatest song ever concocted by mankind in another dimension.

The kitchen rattled as the microwave burst open. The conglomerate of fire, mushrooms, and groovy beats have given birth to a horrific sonic monstrosity. The microwave switched tracks, as from the fires of Technologically Advanced Hell a voice sang...

"We're no strangers to love... You know the rules, and so do I..."

Quinn turned around, hearing the quick cry, in time to see the girl tumble off Farifon. But, somehow, she remained attached by a single cord. A mixture of relief and panic washed across his mind; she wasn't gone, but certainly not safe. What would he have done without... who was she? He knew they'd been traveling together, but-
His train of thought was cut off as the very ground beneath them began to open. Turning back around, he quickly spurred Farifon forward, but he could already tell it wouldn't be enough. The earth was opening to swallow them whole. Down, down...
As they began their descent, his mind raced through the possibilities. They'd have to slow their descent before they hit bottom, but that would be tricky with him, the girl, and the pig. The alternative was going splat though. Grabbing ahold of Farifon's front limb, he twisted his head to make sure the girl was still attached to the porcine steed's tail. Indeed she was.
Suddenly, the void below him was ablaze with color, a melodious tune drifting from the depths. No... his worst fears were being confirmed. The opera had found him. It was hopeless. Perhaps it was better to just let himself fall. No... with Farifon with him, he might stand a fighting chance. Time to act. Concentrating with all his might, he began to slow their descent, fighting against their rapid downward acceleration. The colors below were imprinted into the back of his mind, the deafening crescendo of the music below singing the futility of his attempts. Yet still, he fought, gradually lowering the spend of their fall.

As the microwave continued to churn catchy songs from across times known and unknown, Ryan knew it was no longer safe to hide in a corner. The walls shifted from purple to yellow to blue and back again, throwing in an occasional green to sap the poor fourteen-year-old's mind of creativity to limit him to his only option: run!

It did not matter where, it did not matter how. The technicolor walls of the disco inferno could not hold him back. Cycling his feet to that of a roadrunner, he zoomed up the radically-colored rock wall.

Then, he suddenly froze in his tracks. It wasn't fear that gripped him. It was the banana-colored wall that held his feet down. The monstrosity that he created had gone into the 21st degree of insanity. Its death chant is now slowly invading his mind.

"Yellow hurts. Ok, yellow hurts. YELLOW HURTS! Yellow hurts!"

A fall and a rise, a compromise. A meeting in the void between minds. The scene shifts, color and light and music are gone, and so is Farifon. The steedly bond of men and pork, and all those other unfortunate dorks, breaks not with a snap but a shift in time. I hope you're not bothered by my luxurious rhyme. For it would be a terrible crime, if I were just a pinch....

naughty.

Black would fade to gray, and gray would fade to green, and sky would return again above their merry heads. The memory of falling, and the attack of Rick Astley are long forgotten. Before them, however, a new memory plays. A striking figure dressed in white, carrying a religious sigil of an eye in the crescent moon. "My friends, I have proof - PROOF! That these spirits have spoken to me! I am their chosen! Their herald! Their avatar, to lead a new union of mortal and holy! The spirits Chuziw and Culex have deemed me their worthy soul, to bring the veil of waking and dream to an end! Our world is about to enter a new golden age of enlightenment! Do you not see? I will bring us closer to Spirit, the Creator! I will bring us together with God themself! Join me! I mean no harm! I only wish to benefit mankind with my connection to the spirits!"

It was then, their minds were enraptured by lucidity. The sopor hewn dreamscape felt more real then the waking world, and their consciousness was more distinct then they've ever experienced.

This was a message.

Everything was happening at once and Aubrey was not sure how to react. For one thing, the ground gave way, into what seemed like chocolate. She was hungry now, and she did like chocolate...
Reaching out, her fingers trailed into the chocolate abyss and she brought her fingers to her mouth, sucking the chocolate off of them.
Then she gagged and spat out the taste of dirty boot.
"This ain't chocolate at all!" she exclaimed, pretty much unconcerned about their falling predicament.
But suddenly she was made aware of the insanity below, the colors and the flames and the song she swore she never heard before but it sounded like something that was very overused... And for that reason she was already annoyed by it.
But in the midst of sounds and colors and voices, the scene suddenly shifted entirely. The madness was gone, and indeed, everything was quite normal. Normal compared to what though? There was some sort of recollection of strange events that had just happened, but for the life of her, she couldn't remember a thing...
... what in the world was she wearing?!
But what took her attention was someone new, someone speaking of spirits, something about forging a bond between them and humans... and that he would be the one to lead them. She had a hard time grasping it, uncertain what it all meant. She could only furrow her brows and look around, wondering how she got here in the first place.

One moment he was falling, the next he wasn't. Confused, Quinn blinked, trying to remember why his heart was beating so fast. Why was he here? Hearing a voice speak, he redirected his attention, spotting a figure in white. Speaking of spirits, of the veil between waking and dreaming. Dreaming... DREAMING. That's right, he'd just been dreaming about falling. Was this a dream too then? It certainly didn't feel like a normal dream, yet it was too surreal to be real.
     Just what was going on?

As sudden as he was fixed to the wall in accordance to strange otherworldly chanting, Ryan found himself released from his nightmarish situation and standing upright, or at least it seemed so, as his surroundings shifted to a single color, pulsing and fading to make way for the next color until the sky revealed itself.

A feeling of tranquility accompanied a newfound sense of awareness that welcomed itself into Ryan's mind. He looked down at his denim overalls and then his hands as though expecting something out of place. Suddenly, a strange figure clad in white was before him.

The stranger made his proclamation of spirits and such. However, Ryan's young teen-age mind failed to even remotely comprehend his strange message and its relatively complex vocabulary.

"Spirits? Avatar? Golden age?" Ryan thought, unable to comprehend these seemingly grown-up statements. "What is he talking about?"

Furthermore, the figure's sudden appearance, strange message, and seemingly-blasphemous statement near the end frustrated Ryan's consideration on trusting this person. Though the idea of trying to reply came to mind, his low self-esteem and his lack of trust compelled him to decline.

The world around them seemed to be contrarian to the figure's words.
"By lowering the Veil," He began, as the scene shifted to display space, and the planet they all share behind him, "we bring a new Era of Man." The planet's land masses crack, and great displacements of water form in the ocean. Great discharges of purple and blue energies are unleashed from all around them.
"Our minds and our bodies would benefit from the union of night and day!"
The scene shifts yet again to towns and cities up in flames, with a constant shake of the earth. Fires of many colors take their toll on men and manmade structure alike, desolving wood, flesh, and even stone into a fine ash.
"We shall awaken in a new world, where we only do what we wish! Resources are no longer necessarily something we war over! Famine and drought vanquished! Disease dissipates into nothing!"
The world now is devoid of water and life, as well as form. Fragments of the fractured world float apart, slowly away from the center of gravity. The sun rages purple, glowing brighter than ever, and now so large, it threatens to consume the planet.
"And who are you to deny our fellow men the right to true prosperity and freedom? What monster dares stand before me, weapon drawn?"
Then all there is are the man and his audience. Black and white.
"What would you say to the poverse and starving child left by the street when he asks, 'Why would you ruin my life?' You are no brother of mine, nor member of our great species if you had denied us our most sacred liberty! The right to live." The man turns away from the dreamers, as if he is speaking directly to them. "You are an enemy of me, personally, if you deny anyone that right."

And he walks. As he walks, he fades into the black that surrounds them all.

Quinn knew not if he was waking or dreaming, whether this was real or imagined, but he knew enough to be concerned. The main, whoever he was, spoke of concepts that flew over Quinn's heads, ramblings about a veil, of a new world, a union. Whatever it was he was speaking about, it was obviously positive. In stark contrast, the world flashing before Quinn's eyes was anything but.
Suddenly, abruptly as it had begun, the scene was over. The man walked away. The apocalyptic visions faded to black. Quinn was alone, surrounded by void. The girl from earlier was beside him, along with a new figure. Did he know them? They looked vaguely familiar. Should he know them? What did any of this mean? Where was he?

As the man continued to speak about his "new era," the scenery behind him changed and Aubrey was awestruck. She hardly understood what she was seeing; it looked like the night sky, only with a lot more stars and a huge central round mass, filled with what seemed to be water and something else filling in where there wasn't water. Kinda like a map... ... was that the very planet they lived on?
But it was breaking... And now the scenes were changing to images of cities and towns under fire and destruction, people dying. Aubrey gasped almost-inaudibly. The words the man spoke, about peace, about "true freedom," were at complete odds with what she saw here. This didn't look peaceful or free at all!
     She felt sick...
She couldn't even process his last words as he walked away, the image of fractured pieces of the world nearly consumed by sun faded into black and consuming him. She clutched at her head, feeling woozy. This dream had gone from weird to horrifying, and she wanted to wake up.
