Tourmaline glanced at Violet, who shrugged. "Sure, the more the merrier. We're supposed to be looking for ancient artifacts-- manuscripts and the like. You're welcome to keep anything else we find, though. We're trying to get more money for a couple of mediums."

"Yes, we--"

Tourmaline was cut off by a rather strange person coming over to greet them. At a bit of a loss for words, she tried to speak, but only managed to say "Er?"

Violet looked a bit more wary. As an alchemist, she was a bit suspicious of bottles full of colored liquid, and glanced at the bottles with a hint of distrust. Still, you can't really expect someone to wander around Dearmad without a variety of weapons.

So she stood, and said, "Bonjour. We're looking for a set of ruins rumored to be around these parts. As I was just telling them," she nodded at the other compatriots, "We're only looking for anything with writing-- you're welcome to keep anything else we find, if you want to accompany us."

"Ah, hello, stranger," the dark-skinned man greeted. "Yes, they appear to be looking for the Temple of Eleia. You speak as if you're accustomed to the wastelands. Would you happen to know anything?"

"Ruins you say?" The Enkidu girl exclaimed as she scratched her head. "Would help if I knew the name of the place!" She chuckled. However, the man in the group proceeded to tell her the name. The Temple of Eleia. A flash of surprise and suspicion shot across the girl's face, but she quickly regained her composure and grinned.

"I know where that is!" She cheered. "I actually live fairly close by the old temple, so I'll be happy to guide you there!" Of course, she seemed a tad bit hesitant to actually bring them, but what's the worse that could happen?

As they walked, the girl decided to introduce herself. "I'm Amberley! It's nice to meet you!" She greeted. "But may I have your names as well? Don't want to be travelling in this place with people I don't know after all!"

Tourmaline was surprised and happy with the number of helpful people they'd encountered in this supposedly "no rules" desert. She smiled, and extended her hand to the girl; "Tourmaline Cardona, wonderful to meet you as well."

Violet was surprised and very suspicious of the number of helpful people they'd encountered in this supposedly "no rules" desert. All the same, she followed Tourmaline's lead, figuring they could handle themselves in a fight if it came to that. "Je m'appelle Violet Fletcher."

After greeting her, Violet said, "As I mentioned, we're just looking for manuscripts and such-- nothing valuable, except to historians and the like. You fellows are welcome to keep whatever else we find. You'll have to discuss who gets what amongst yourselves, though."

"Nice to meet you, Miss Amberley. I am Arnien and this is my little boy Ravi," he said. "I was just saying I'd accompany these girls out of good will there, and I do not mind either to come along. We can leave our camp for a bit. And finding a few good things would help us when we sell to the merchants in Aldmerrow."

Ravi merely bobbed his head.

Arnien pushed himself up and quickly snatched a bag while Ravi took a couple of water sacks.

"So how far do we need to go from here? What do we need to take? If it takes until high noon then we'll need a good supply of water indeed."

It was around this time that a lone tree wedged between the crags of two rocks spontaneously fell.

A quick glance would have seen the swift movement of something like solid shadow slip in between the cracks. Pebbles would start lifting from the ground oddly. Arnien gripped his sword.

"Hold on everyone," he said. "I believe we're not alone right now."

The ground beneath them started to shake and the many cracks started to form a complete, connected line.

"Ravi, girls, stay back!" Arnien said next.

The crack would slowly edge closer to the camp before dark liquid spurted out of it like a geyser of tar.

The liquid floated in the air before forming some strange flying dark serpent with bright yellow eyes and two dove-like wings on its back. It had the short legs of a hen at the front and back, and a tale with a scorpion's tale.

It hissed deep blue fire.

"Look out!" Arnien called out.

Amberley smiled softly at the group. "How lovely to meet you all!" She cheered. It was jsut wonderful to meet people in Dearmad. Especially ones who weren't trying to kill you! Amberley enjoyed the rare occasion she actually met someone like this. And she jsut met four! What luck!

But before they could leave, the snake thing popped out of the ground. How bothersome. Amberley hoped for a quiet journey back home. "... He looks kinda goofy, don't you think?" She laughed. Apparently she didn't seem take the attack very seriously.

Then, Amberley gripped her warhammer and swung it into the ground. She then held it in a defensive position, and began giggling "I always love a challenge~" She said. "But I suggest we let him come to us. Charging that thing is probably stupid!"

Tourmaline's face went very white at the appearance of the Incantus. She looked about ready to run for her life, but with a glance at Violet, stood where she was, though she was shaking violently. "Wh-what're the o-odds that he-he's friendly?"

Violet, after retrieving her sword from her bag, stood still, squinting at the Incantus. "I suppose living in Dearmad means you two probably know how to fight, right?" As per Amberley's suggestion, she stayed where she was.

"But of course," Arnien said as he yanked out a bow and arrow. "Ravi, stay back, understood?"

Ravi nodded.

The odd Incantus creature slithered through the air before swooping down and unleashing another blast of hot blue fire at Amberley and Tourmaline.

"This one's pretty aggressive so... I gotta say there's a zero percent chance!" Amberley giggled in response to Tourmaline. She had to fight pretty much every single day in this place, it kind of became a game for her. How many things can she kill in one day?

She flashed a grin at Violet as well. "I'm still alive aren't I?" Okay so she had a few close calls, but hey, that was no biggie. The group would notice that even as a flaming ball of certain death came flying towards, she had a goofy grin on her face.

"I suggest you move, dear~" The Enkidu girl chuckled as she rolled out of the way. The fire singed a bit of hair on her tail, but it didn't burn her alive! And that was always a plus. Of course p, now it was her turn to fight, and fight she would! She sprinted towards the Incantus, her warhammer off to the side. She leaped up and raised the hammer above her head, swinging down as she smiled maniacally. In a cheerful way of course.

Violet moved in front of Tourmaline, drawing her sword, while Tourmaline closed her eyes (obviously still quite frightened) and began muttering something that sounded like "Heat input... Why blue, though? Mess with equations..." As she spoke, Cartic marks began flowing out of her and surrounded the group. After a moment, Tourmaline said loud enough for them to hear, "Magic shield, fire, half a minute, make it count."

Violet stayed near Tourmaline, protecting her while she cast her magic. Violet began casting her own, keeping half an eye on Tourmaline, and the air temperature around them dropped sharply, cracking a few stones on the ground. "Should make fire harder to cast, especially against the shield."
