Wiegenlied is a considerably open world where you can be flexible about your skills, particularly when it comes to magic. There are, of course, limits to magic and how Cantus and Carta work by nature. This is discussed briefly in Cantus vs. Carta, but if you'd like to know more or have questions as to whether you can do this or that with regards to magical abilities, feel free to ask here. I'm quick to reply so I'd prefer only questions from three different people at max before I can move onto the next batch. You can also ask about Enkidu abilities as well.

Are there any appreciable effects that a trained eye can easily discern between the two types of magic? |

Is it possible for Anima to become corrupted, and thus make the mage become a Moira, while using Carta? |

Thanks for the questions! Question #1, Paxedin
Question #2, NonSequitur Yes. In fact, so long as one's paying close attention and knows how Carta works, one can easily tell if someone's using Cantus or Carta. In Carta, the presence of Cartic marks will always be visible. They look, more or less while others make use of whole glyphs filled with them. In Cantus is more immediate in nature, but varies greatly. Some use runes, others chant, some bend the elements to their will. Walpurgis usually keep their spells on a low-scale in order to not attract attention as a rune can easily be mistaken for a mark and some spells are cast so fast you wouldn't have the time to discern it. The Expiate and those trained in Walpurgis suppression are able to cast spells that allow them to detect Cantus. Another way of distinguishing the two is a strange one: smell. When a Walpurgis is corrupting or an Incantii's aura causes Cantus "leakage", the magic energy will bring about a strong, metallic or burnt odor. Question #3, GF No. Anima corruption has solely to do with the fact it is being manipulated by Cantus. Cantus, in a way, is a hazard to Anima due to its nature of altering things. Think of it like radiation which emits energy that can donk up your molecules. Cantus that emits from Incantii is actually the reason there are corrupted beasts. Carta, on the other hand, uses an outside energy source while their Anima influences the desired effect they want. Edited by Lilac, Aug 17 2016, 02:04 AM.

Following up on NonSequiter's question, for Cartan marks, do they disappear as soon as you cast the spell? For example, could you get a tattoo of a fireball spell on your palm, and be able to use it whenever (if you had a charged medium)? Alongside that, can Cartan marks be written pretty much anywhere within the vicinity? Like, if you had a bunch on a long sheet of paper, could you throw it on the ground and cast it from there?

Yes, they disappear once you cast the spell. Cartic marks aren't written though, but are cast. A Cartic mage memorizes these marks and conjures images of them in their mind before casting them out. It's like thinking of words before saying them, so Carta is kinda like studying a magic language. That said, you can conjure these marks and place them on the paper so that it will do the effect for you when you want it to so long as the paper is charged with energy. Granted, you can be creative as to how Carta works so long as it follows the properties. |

Hey, I'm curious about alchemy. Is it like, the usual thing where you make potions and yadda yadda, stuff like that? Or what? |

Alchemy's rather broad, but yes potions are a branch of it. One way to describe it is a metaphysical science or magical art of manipulating and altering matter. In a way it is like transfiguration, but where transfiguration only requires magic and is temporary, the change in alchemy is most often permanent or even irreversible. A branch of this is potions, but is very minor to the real principles of alchemy. A well-trained alchemist puts his/her mind to changing an item and turning it into something else and will take their time studying materials and comprehending it. From there they magically deconstruct the material and form it into something else, but mind that no matter is added into the process or destroyed, merely changed. Alchemy proper has caused controversy, particularly because of those who abuse its power and try to manipulate living beings. This was often witnessed in Free Alchemy, which was performed by many stray Walpurgis and often ended with much bloodshed. Alchemy proper has been put on ban in most parts and often needs authorization. Alchemy therefore has now been taken for brewery at its base. |

How prevalent and accepted is Necromancy? Are all summoned/resurrected undead mindless, or can more powerful necromancers create more powerful/intelligent undead (ghosts?)? Also, are there any differences between using Necromancy with Carta or Cantus magic (besides the typical former takes longer and the latter has longer range stuff)? If it isn't too much of a bother, could you also explain a bit more in depth about what Hex magic does (specifically utilized via Cantus magic)? Like, the difference between a charm and luck, between a curse and general misfortune, the limits on how powerful they are, etc. Luck is kind of an enigmatic force at best so I'm just hoping for a bit more detail on its capabilities. Sorry about the amount of questions, I just really like understanding as much as possible before I settle on a character, lol. |
