Generalissimo Francisco Franco

MADRID - Generalissimo Franco today announced the start of economic and social reform programs, effectively ending the period of "self-sufficiency" after 10 years. The Generalissimo has also said that Falangist Party members will be removed from economic planning bureaus and has invited Austrian economists to serve in planning the new economy.

"To continue the growth of the economy, we must adapt to the changing political situation in Europe. We must be open to experimenting with new ideas," the Generalissimo said. "We share a common bond with the people of Europe in stopping the spread of communism; to this effect, we must adapt to the new situation on the continent."

The Generalissimo has also announced that the Falangist Party will be stripped of most of its influence in controlling the government ministries, including the foreign affairs ministry and the labor ministry. Aside from the Generalissimo, the Falangist Party leadership is being investigated for subversive and pro-communist activities. If found to be engaging in pro-communist activities, they will be sentenced to death.
