![]() ![]() ![]() Today the Government of the Kingdom of Norway signed an agreement with the Swedish and Finnish governments to further deepen the cooperation within the framework of the Nordic Council. The Swedish-Finnish common market will open to Norwegian products through the Norwegian entry into the Swedish-Finnish customs union, and Norwegian citizens will be given opportunities to work in Sweden and Finland thanks to the common labour market that now also includes Norway. Cooperation on legislation and industrial matters will further strengthen the bonds between our three small nations so strongly committed to freedom and democracy in an increasingly hostile world. Prime Minister Einar Gerhardsen of Norway: - Norway has always had a strong commitment to the Nordic cause and now we are happy to take it to the next level. In these fickle times it is a blessing to know whom to trust and we do have the most in common with our closest neighbours in almost every aspect of life. Now we can continue building a society that cares for all its citizens in a close and equal partnership with nations that share our values and respect our integrity. This is a happy day for the Norwegian people! Signed ![]() Haakon King of Norway Einar Gerhardsen Prime Minister |

Finland welcomes Norway warmly and sincerely. During our darkest days in the war your sympathy was a beacon of hope and a reminder that we were not abandoned by all. We remember with gratitude the ultimate sacrifice made by Norwegian volunteers and we will strive to show our gratitude to the nation that raised them. signed ![]() Juho Kusti Paasikivi President of the Republic of Finland Karl August Fagerholm Prime Minister |
