The Kingdom of Sweden confirms that discussions about a Scandinavian defence union has indeed been resumed and that the talks includes all Nordic nations except Iceland who was invited but hasn't answered. Our four nations are unanimous that a united defence would be of utmost importance to prevent a repetition of the terrors that a new war would bring, even if some specific details of the nature of the union still remains to be negotiated. |

Recent diplomatic complications during 1948 have rekindled Norwegian interest in this as well. |

Britain is reluctant to accept this state of affairs, but Denmark is a sovereign nation. We shall be concluding and curtailing all defensive cooperation; all military cooperation, links, supply and support present and future; all developmental and economic offers and cooperation; all licenced production; all trade agreements; all goods purchases and commercial cooperation agreements; and assorted general business with the Kingdom of Denmark in light of these developments, their motivations and their direction. We wish it merry autarky. OOC: No, just another brick in the wall. And not even an unpredictable one at that. |

We wonder why the British nation reacts so strongly to this, do they have anything against small nations forming indepedent alliances? |

This is simply a proportionate reaction to any member of NATO departing from the alliance in such sudden and strained circumstances; we no longer have military links, nor cooperation. Commercial measures have been taken due to the perception of external influences on the actions of Denmark. Britain is in no way opposed to a Scandinavian Defence Pact; however, we do not see it as mutually exclusive from NATO, nor necessitating 'secession', which is a highly loaded term smacking of dissolution of ties. This action does complicate our own security and we are hardly likely to welcome any such complication, added cost and Soviet propaganda advantage with open arms. As such, His Majesty's Government has with all regret taken these initial steps, which may be followed by further steps in the future, or by different steps in the future. What occurs is entirely up to how Denmark approaches this situation and chooses to deal with it. A cash refund will be supplied for all orders cancelled; we are unable to supply any Scandinavian defensive needs prior to meeting those of NATO. This amounts to some $69 million. We will be unable to provide any spare parts or assistance in any manner for the existing British equipment that provides the overwhelming proportion of the Danish military. We shall be redirecting all agricultural purchases from Denmark to Ireland, Canada, the Netherlands, France and indigenous British production. For reasons of national security, we are unable to allow the sale of the rights to Mr. Page's Kiddicraft design, and will be providing a $125 million government hardship subsidy to compensate said company. We are also unable to provide for the construction of merchant vessels for sale to Danish shipping companies, as previously mooted, nor to support transfer or allied assets. We would question what the status of Thule is under these new developments. |

We do not see a reason to end the contract to Thule, as it is a contract with the US, not NATO. |

The Soviet goverment kindly embraces this Danish step. Further we have to say the British goverment that the Soviet goverment does not accept this commercial blockade against an independent nation. If there should be any lacks of food or energy sources due to this blockade the people of the USSR will stand on the Danish side. Further we are willing to support the Danish Armed Forces with military equipment, if required. The people of the Soviet Union are willing to support the founding of the Nordic Defence Alliance and kindly embrace it. To show our good will are going to offer a explicit non aggression pact and assistance pact. Britain mentioned the Soviet propaganda. In fact there is no need for propaganda or whatever because this situation shows the current coherence and situation of the NATO. We encourage all further NATO states to ensue the example of Denmark and leave NATO. |

OOC: Why is it not realistic or doable? Denmark was seeking this kind of alliance in the late 40's, and the only reason it fell was because of Norway joining NATO instead, this lead to Sweden being uninterrested, and then Denmark had to join NATO aswell. Now Norway is being embargoed by UK and France, that puts it at a whole diffirent spectrum than IRL, Finland is also not in its historical " cannot join any alliance " as if i remember correctly that was not a part of any treaty signing. /OOC |

OOC: It is pretty realistic at this point. I think you and Simon forgot, that this is just a game. And we are not going to play history. So this can happen. Nobody said this, as Yugoslavia left the Warsaw Pact. They are independent state. So they can do, what they`ve want to. NATO is no duty for the western makes. besides, thouse actions make the game interesting. /OOC |
