Gentlemen,

Ethiopia wishes to bring to the floor discussion on the future of Eritrea. Ethiopia wishes to determine the general concensus of the United Nations on this matter and what the future of Eritrea is. It is Ethiopia's will that Eritrea become a federated part of Ethiopia, with part of Eritrea to be officially conglomerated into the Federated state of Tigray, and the rest to be officially conglomerated with the Federated State of Afar.

Furthermore, Ethiopia wishes to state its will to hold a referendum within Eritrea on the matter on August 15th, 1951. Depending on the outcome of this vote, and the decisions of the United Nations and the international community, we wish to see Eritrea completely federated into Ethiopia on January 1st, 1952.

During this process, we request and invite the United Nations to assist the administration of this referendum to ensure that it is fair and forthright, and a true representation of the people of former Italian colony.

King Merkinball wishes to address the United Nations specifically during the first week of June, 1951, in regards to this issue.

Amha Selassie,
Foriegn Minister of Ethiopia

Iraq has no official opinion on this matter. However, it would urge the international community to keep a fair eye on the Coptic state and its treatment of a Muslim minority. The Tigreans and Afars have more than their fair share of Islamic blood on their hands from decades of brutal repression.

King Merkinball's address to the UN on Eritrea

Gentlemen,

Eritrean officials are prepared to administer a popular referendum regarding the future of Eritrea. As stated previously, we wish to invite UN observers to as many polling places as possible to ensure the authenticity of this referendum. As much as I have a personal desire to see Ethiopia unified, I will not stand in the way of the will of the Eritrean people should they choose to create an independent nation.

Many political officals from Eritrea support unification. And they believe they have popular support inconjuction with their views. Gentleman, I am here today to assuage concerns about the future of Eritrea.

Eritreans share concerns about their future. Some of which tend to drive them towards wanting a seperate independent nation. Many Eritreans identify themselves as superior to other Africans due to the colonial meddling of Italy through WWII. Many fear a loss of sovereignty.

As a result, many of the political demands out of Eritrea insist that Eritrea remain semi-federated. It appears that the majority of Eritreans, by a wide margin, favor federation into the Tigrey and Afar states. They also stipulate that the future democratic constitution allow for the cessessetion of individual states should Ethiopia fully annex Eritrea.

Gentleman, I wish to assure you that this Kingdom now, and the Democratic nation that is developing within Ethiopia will ensure that present day Eritreans are never treaded upon, and that Eritrea will never face a military occupation of any sort.

Religious and language concerns have also been an issue within Eritrea. However, over the last five years, Eritreans have come to welcome the steps taken by my government in regards to ensuring that Eritreans are allowed to retain their native tongues, retain their religion, and ensure that neither the Amharic tongue, nor the Coptic religions will be foist upon them against their will.

I have done all I can to open my nation at a steady pace without causing disorder. I have been more than accomodating to people who are not of my own personal background. And I assure you that should Eritrea become federated with Ethiopia, that its people will be treated with respect.

We have shown good will for five years to the Tigrean's and Afars of Eritrea. We have developed their ports. We have built schools, and dozens of hospitals. We have paved roads and connected areas that were once considered isolated from one another. We are hastily providing electricity as well. We have brought in foreign investors, and provided new well paying jobs for thousands of Eritreans. The standard of living has nearly doubled within Eritrea over the last five years.

We wish to assure the Eritrean people that there is much more to be gained through unification with the Ethiopian state, than there is to continue to embrace antiquated political views that have been supplanted in them by meddlesome colonial brothers. We hope for a unified Ethiopia just a month from now. And I hope that you share the same goal.

Good Afternoon,
King Merkinball

The United Kingdom has no opinion on the issue and wishes to make it known that we shall be out of the country by the end of this year if all goes as planned.

Either way, we think a referendum would be best, and we are actually now leaning to supporting independence.

Tremblez, tyrans et vous perfides
L'opprobre de tous les partis
Tremblez ! vos projets parricides
Vont enfin recevoir leurs prix !
Tout est soldat pour vous combattre
S'ils tombent, nos jeunes héros,
La terre en produit de nouveaux,
Contre vous tout prêts à se battre !
