The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr Trygve Lie from Norway, resigns due to his opposition against the misuse of the veto right, the admission of fascist Spain into the United Nations, the failure of the United Nations to recognize the People's Republic of China since the People's Republic is the only Chinese government which could fulfill the membership obligations in full after the Nationalist government was exiled to Taiwan, and the United Nation recognition of the legal validity of territorial claims originally made by the Nazi regime.

Elections for a new Secretary-General are to be held as soon as possible. Candidates are expected to be presented to the General Assembly during the next months.

The Soviet Union nominates the Swiss citzien Claus-Karl Bloch. He is an experienced diplomat. Currently he is the Swiss ambassador in the Soviet Union. Soviet Foreign Minister already talked to him, and he showed his will to be the new General Secretary of the United Nations, in the case that he will win the votes. He also assured that he will be a neutral mediator for the recent conflicts all over the world.
