While Egypt realises that the United Nations may not be the best place to discuss this, but we must respond to France's very misleading, very biased and very insulting statements.

We would like to bring France's attention back to the real world and real events which happened. Egypt sent a peacekeeping force - we insist on this term, as this is what their primary purpose in Sudan was, to Wadi Halfa to bring order to this region of Sudan, which is so close to Egypt. At the time Sudan was in joint Anglo-Egyptian administration and our basing of troops in Wadi Halfa was entirely justified.

The British overreacted and attacked our troops while the Parliament was debating their demands to withdraw from Sudan. Here they not only showed their disregard for the Anglo-Egyptian treaties regarding Sudan, but also for democratic processes which Egypt, and indeed Britain, valued. Faced with such aggression our troops in Sudan has no choice but to retaliate.

The dead and injured of the Royal Egyptian Army in Sudan was not because of Egyptian aggression but rather British aggression. The troops were there to keep peace. The British saw them as a threat to their hegemony and power. The Egyptians want nothing more than peace and security along the border. The reactionary British only cared about their "prestige" and power, and were not ashamed to manipulate facts to convince the world, including the deluded French and Israelis, that Egypt is a dangerous aggressive state, when all Egypt did was participating in the administration of Sudan which is our right by treaty. Now tell us who is in the right and who is in the wrong?

We shall stand against the Israelis, as a noble nation united and defiant, against the Zionist aggressors until all of Egypt is free from occupation, and if need be until the Palestinian Arabs are liberated from oppressive Zionist rule. You have seen the pictures, read the reports - contrary to what the Zionists would have the world to believe, Israel is not a land of safety and freedom.

Those nations which attempts to interfere with our ability to defend ourselves, and conspires with the Israelis to rob us of our independence and our liberty, shall too be considered enemies of the Egyptian people.

The nation of Israel has placed an ultimatum before the Kingdom of Egypt. You chose not to answer it, and not retreat you forces from Sudan. The fact is, you only withdrew your army AFTER we declared war, and we are certain once the war is over, your army would return to Sudan. Therefore, we must stop you, because your next step would be blocking the Tiran straits and the Suez canal for Israeli shipping.

If Egypt is so intent on us sharing duties in the Sudan, His Majesty's government should have received information directly from the Egyptian Government on their purposes and plan of action. Since we did not receive any such notice, much less given an opportunity to share our opinion on the issue, your moves were aggressive and did not warrant even a warning.

That aside, we do feel that this Arab Israeli war can be worked out, IF both parties are willing which at the moment does not look like they are.

Egypt will accept a cease-fire... but all Israeli troops must withdraw behind pre-war borders.
